This actually happened to me aswell. It was an 11 hour flight. My ticket had this ssss code and for some reason something happened so they upgraded us to business class
I was on my way home one time on a business trip. I was one of the last to be boarded. A soldier was at the gate counter begging for a seat but the flight was booked. I thought about it a moment then went up to the desk with my suitcase. Excuse me, do you really need to get on this flight? "Yes, I will miss my connecting flight if I don't get a seat and I only have a week of leave before I'm being shipped out." I think he was going to Kurwat (excuse spelling). I turned to the gate worker. "If I give him my seat can you get me on the next flight no charge?" "Um ... yes mam." "Then do it." She smiled and did it. The soldier thanked me over and over. "No need. It's the least I can do for one of service men. Enjoy your leave." He got his ticket and boarding pass and I had to wait about 3 hours for the next flight. Wish I had gotten his name but he had to rush on board. God bless him and his family.
You need to get a boarding pass to be guaranteed a seat on your flight. You can get them online (at least in USA) 24 hours before your flight and print out at home. I was on a business trip with my supervisors and we got told they had over booked and we couldn't take the flight. The next flight was at midnight, about 3-4 hours away if I remember right. So we got some food and sat down to work in a corner at the gate. Then one seat opened and was offered to my boss. She declined thank goodness. We got in and the car rental was closed. Sigh. Luckily the hotel sent a shuttle van to pick up us. We got a few hours of sleep, grabbed breakfast. The boss let the lab know we were going to be late. The hotel shuttle took us back to the airport to get our rental car. Always get a boarding pass if you can. Hotels will let you use a computer and printer to get one for your return flight too.
One time my me and my family were scammed by an Indian taxi driver we wanted to get to the air port so we took a taxi. There were 2 air ports so when we got to the taxi my dad specifically told the taxi driver to drive us to the second air port not the first one the taxi driver said that he knew where the second airport was so we enterd the taxi. The stupid driver drove us to the first one and he said that this is the second airport my dad gave him the money and then we went to check in but they told us we were in the wrong one so we had to take another taxi to get to the airport turns out that there was only five minutes left and the plane will take off but we made it on time
