- I am so happy you are here! Welcome to The Kneady Homesteader channel and our weekly get together where we Meal Plan for the week. This helps us stay on budget, use up leftovers, and spend a little less at the grocery store by shopping our pantry. This week marks our 4th week together, and we are going to be more mindful this week, here at my house about the possible strike Oct 1, 2024 by Dockworkers at our Ports here in the US. Hi Heather. Here’s the info I have from my daughter who works in the shipping industry.
Port Operators want to use machines to unload ships, track cargo, and automate paperwork.
Dock workers are saying if you have the billions to dump into technology development, you have the billions to pay us.
If they don’t get a pay raise by Thursday, they will strike.
It’s the East coast ports so the west coast will see a huge influx of ships. Costs will go up because of the additional miles and not every ship captain can navigate the Panama Canal - which is the route they’ll have to take to go from East to West coast.
There’s the info from a government official. She works directly with Port Authorities and the shipping of products.
I won’t have meal plan videos til first of the year after Bob retires and I can plan regular meals. But I am going to join you so keep the planning coming, please.

I made up the meat for the Salisbury steak (only had 3/4 lb.) but since I cook for only 1 decided on meat balls over rice. Followed the recipe with exact spices and it turned out delicious with the gravy over the rice. Would definitely make these again! Thanks Heather! ❤

Thank you Heather, You are making a difference for me! I’m doing a much better job cooking for us as retirees! What are you canning this week? I’m doing gingered carrots, and pickled carrots after finishing the apple pie filling and pickled pears last week. You can’t beat the sense of accomplishment from canning.
Gingered carrots sound good to me.
Praying things will come back to a more "normal" soon. If not, then I pray others have stocked up. Oh Costco, I spend too much there but they do have a BIG jar of B than B.

You have been so helpful with these. The other night I didn't know what to make and then I saw your Salisbury steak video pop up and remembered you talking about making that. So I made that for dinner. I also have been trying harder to figure out how to do leftover makeovers.

My meal planner is continuing to change my life! We are now saving $200.00 a month, we eat at home just about everyday(once in a while we get caught out of town) but I plan for meals at home every meal. I schedule in to have a restaurant eat out meal on the last day of the month as a treat. I’ve started my canning journey, and actually submitted my Jalopeno pepper jelly to our Autumn Festival, and I won a blue ribbon! Thank you Heather for all of your sweet guidance! --Dawn in WV.

Hi Heather its another weird spring day here in Sydney weathers been crazy lately. Its worrying to see the weather in the US going the way it is. My family and I did try your Salisbury steak recipe along with your Dutch apple bread recipe! They were both winners. Dutch apple bread is AMAZING! They are going in my made with love book that I will someday be my sons 😊

I made the Salisbury Steak recipe last night. Started it too late for the slow cooker so I cooked in in the oven in my braiser pan for 2 1/2 hours. Hubby approved!!
YAY!!! It passed the Hubby taste test! hahahaha love it!
Often, in the summer, when people aren't really buying roasts, so they go on sale. I stock up. I can cube that up myself for stew. So tender and good, and less expensive than "stew meat".
I don’t buy stew meat either, I only buy chuck roast at $3.99. Lb. On sale
I also grind the roast to make ground beef

My altered meal plan frm last week was spot on and I was far more successful! As i told you, I made a list of possible meals from on-hand foods, then each day I decided what I had a taste for. I was also very successful in cutting down on breads & sugars...dropping my average glucose test levels to 112. And I lost 3 pounds! Here's my menu from last week:
Monday
M¹...cheesy scrambled eggs w leftover bacon, sausage patties & ham
M²...Cajun turkey sub on French Baguette
M³...Apple slices, peanut butter, white chocolate cookie
Tuesday
M¹...creamy onion soup, BBQ pork chop, bacon fried cabbage
M²....extra sharp cheddar cheese, Duke's mayo
Wednesday
M¹...coffee, Purple Dead Nettle tea (for allergies), fresh pear
M²...Hamburger Vegetable Soup, fresh pear
Thursday
M¹...fried ham w mustard, Elderberry tea, Chamomile tea
M²..braised beef arm roast, butter, pickled red onions, espresso
Friday
M¹...kielbasa, mustard, herbal teas
M²...beef arm roast w jus, Magic Soup
Saturday
M¹...beef arm roast lettuce wraps, Magic Soup
M²...fried ham, mustard, Duke's, tabasco
Sunday
M¹...beef arm roast w horseradish sauce
M²...coffee & teas
I started yesterday by returning fully to my usual way of eating after September's birthday month indulgence in foods that elevated my glucose. But by tapering down the carbs last week, my level is quickly dropping to my normal range.

First here! Heather, I agree, the prices are insane and not getting any better. I've stopped buying large bags of shrimp. Anyway, I wanted to ask you what you think of "chicken" stroganoff. Never made that before and I know it's usually with beef. I was just talking to my neighbor about cornbread! Made fresh and add butter and honey. Drat, I should never watch you before I eat! Sending much love to you and yours, plus the chickens!

@@TheKneadyHomesteader just an FYI, with the dock workers along the East and Golf Coast POSSIBLY GOING ON STRIKE, my Walmart Manager said they are already getting price hike info. This is strike is suppose to begin at 12:01 am Tuesday 10/01. This may affect 39 ports from Main to Texas

Thank you so much for doing this meal planning, everything is getting ridiculous with the prices of food and electricity in Britain, so many people are having to go to food banks.
Yet how come leaders of countries don't realise just how hard it is for a lot of us.
I think they do, I think they are doing it intentionally.....as they bankrupt this country, money launder through the Ukraine, and setting us up for a huge fall. We are being fast tracked to becoming Venezuela. The world wants a one world governing system, and the USA is standing in their way. We are armed and used to a certain way of living.....free! And they can't have that.

I grabbed organic petit carrots at Costco and some organic celery. Also grabbed 2 big bags of onions to make onion stock. I may can potatoes as well. So some staples.
I would love to write my meal plan down all fancy….! I change my mind so much in the process of doing it, I’m forced to just make it out in my phone notes.

Corporate greed is out of control in food, utilities and pharmaceuticals. Companies are making money at record levels, and the consumers are footing the bill. Costco has the huge jars of better than bullion for about the price you listed.
"Better then Bouillon" is a great product! But I can't afford it lol! I buy Knorr's bouillon for a *fraction* of the price at Sam's Club!
Yeah, it was $8.99 at Costco! I can't believe it's doubled in price!

I hope you see this before you go to Costco. I buy the large jar of Better then boulon I swear its 2.5 times bigger then the ones you get at the store. My Costco carries the Chicken,Beef and vegetables ❤❤❤

I'm 75 fell and fractured my humerus in 3 places. The doctor is saying that I might have to have surgery and put a metal plate in my arm if it doesn't heal on its own.
Please pray that I didn't need surgery. ❤

They say it comes in 3. I hope the 3rd one has something to do an appliance and not me, 😆. So far, my arm is looking good.
I like to drain a can of corn and then combine the drained corn with a can of creamed corn. Is it a tillage radish?
With your Salisbury steak recipe, would it work after you put it all together to put it in a slow cooker instead of the oven? I don't have an oven right now
Absolutely! I never put mine in the oven. Always a slow cooker. Turns out much more tender!

I will pray over it....if I did it would probably be for members....and only if they wanted to see it....only because I am really mindful and sensitive to the times right now....and times are hard, being able to afford groceries are really hard for many right now. I want to be sensitive to that.

If shopping ever becomes fun and exciting where we can try new things, I will....but every time I go shopping it is with a heavy heart..... I know I am not alone. So many can't afford to et and pay their bills...they have to choose....several right here in this comment section. Praying over people right now....the struggle is real. M7M's at Costco yesterday was $18.99! Butter cost me $90. And it is only going to get worse.
All the chaos is getting to me. We are stocked but it’s like I feel like I can’t stock enough. Anyone else deal with this anxiety?
I think we can all get sucked into that..... I sit in the Bible when I start feeling unsettled.....I remind myself that my Father is on the throne, and He has me and no matter what happens, what we endure, it is well with my soul! Press into faith and let go! Everything is as it should be. And we all know how the story ends. :)
