  • How much of what we do adds value, and how much is waste? A value stream map can help you quantify how much of a business process actually adds value, how much is waste, and how much the waste costs You can use this analytical tool for manufacturing, legal document processing, health care, and a myriad of other business processes. Here are some more examples I show on LinkedIn: bit.ly/UnlockHiddenValue
    Let's talk:

    Many of these lean manufacturing tools are really communication tools. We help you identify the problem, then communicate it clearly and concisely, and then you can get management commitment to fix it.

      Thank you Adriana, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I posted it because most of the Value Stream Mapping videos discuss the actual mechanics of the map, but tend to ignore the financials...and the financials are why we're all working.

    Great presentation, not some reading from the prepared script (or at least it doesn't look like that). Very natural and engaging :) thanks

      Thank you! You are correct, I was not reading from a prepared script. However, I did put a lot of thought into the structure and did have a list of bullet points.

    3:27 How did you come up with 240? It does not make sense if the work day is 8 actual working hours for 10 days!

    • @gordonadelsberg521
      @gordonadelsberg521 Месяц назад

      I used 24 hours. You could use 8 hours/day or any other number. The numbers will be slightly different, but the principles are the same.

    ●Das ist eine didaktisch hervorragend gestaltete Erklärung.
    ●Geschickt wird der
    -Mengen-Strom
    mittels Preisen zu einem
    -Wertestrom
    verknüpft.
    ●Sofort wird ersichtlich, dass nicht jede Eliminierung im Mengen-Strom (Zeit,Stück)
    ökonomisch Sinn macht.
    ●Die einseitige technische Optimierung hat schon bei vielen Unternehmen den Gewinn gesenkt.
    ●Therapie (Lean) erfolgreich, Patient (Betrieb) tot.
    ●Das hat auch mit dem kulturellen Hintergrund zu tun. In Japan spielen die Kapitalmärkte keine grosse Rolle.
    In den USA schon.
    ●MAGA!

    Hello Sir,
    Can u please explain the difference between Value stream mapping and Process Mapping, i.e. Purpose and usage.
    Thank You

    • @gordonadelsberg521
      @gordonadelsberg521 3 года назад +2

      Shiva, the difference, at the way I use them, is that a process map is qualitative while a value stream map is quantitative. I use a process to show who does what and in what order. I use a value stream map to quantify the waste in a process. Here's a link to my process mapping course: www.udemy.com/course/communication-for-geeks-tools-process-map/

      Angel, technically you're correct. However, my goal here is to demonstrate a tool , and show viewers how to uncover value.

    How we can implement vsm in industry 4.0?

  • @ChiliBass

    The assumption is that a workday is 24 hours long. Should we use 8 hours in our calculations?

    • @communicationforgeeks5102
      @communicationforgeeks5102  4 года назад

      You can use either one, it depends on what makes sense for your company. Remember, you want to show value-added work vs non-value-added work. If your value add is 2%, 5% or even 10%, your actions to improve the process will be quite similar.

    • @loghorizon45
      @loghorizon45 4 года назад

      It could be the case that this manufacturer runs 3 shifts a day to keep the machines running. With an output like this it wouldn't make sense at all but for the sake of modelling this value stream, it makes it easier to understand.

    • @gordonadelsberg521
      @gordonadelsberg521 7 месяцев назад

      You are correct... partially. My goal was to show an overview of a helpful tool we use in process improvement. Showing a solution would be done either as a case study or a course.

      10 days x 24 hours / day = 240 hours. You can choose 8 hours per day, 16, or any other number that makes sense for your company.

    its just another micromanaging tool, there's several like it that do exactly the same

    • @murbacchiu
      @murbacchiu 3 года назад

      if you are used to lean manufacturing it is not a "micromanaging tool among others" it is the starting point to figure out where to intervene. The video is giving only a glance of its potential and it is not even complete in all its parts. Video is dove for commercial purposes which is quite obvious . Pls mention one tool similar to VSM. :)
