      My thoughts exactly. Step 2 in the MX-9900 manual makes no sense to me. Nowhere does the manual talk about measuring distance from tractor output PTO shaft to chipper shaft (and adding 2"). I was sure I was going to do something wrong trying to follow the manual so I came here to find a video and this is perfectly understandable.

    Thank you. I just picked up a MX-8600 for my sub compact and had no idea how to cut the shaft. This was clear and concise. Only problem is this is not correct. I needed a 25" shaft, and had a 29" inch PTO shaft. SO according to your method I would need to remove 6 inches form both shafts (4 inches + 2 inches = 6 inches) So now the shaft is too short. I measured 2 times just to be sure.

    So in my case, the length of both the distance between tractor and implement and my shaft length are 28”. I need to remove two inches from each shaft half to be properly sized. Correct?

  • @theknob1
    @theknob1 15 дней назад

    You don't do this unless you want a fitted PTO shaft for every implement you have. I have a tiller and a post hole digger. Use one PTO shaft for all.

    You forget one thing .
    You must find the closest dostance betwen the tractor shaft and the implement shaft.
    First measure when the tool is at it's lowest, then in the middle and last in the upper position.

    I have a question. If you buy an adjustable length PTO shaft, let's say between 41" and 59", if your distance between tractor output shaft to implement shaft is 49", couldn't you use the PTO shaft as is without cutting? I'm new to this and would appreciate the help.

    I have an older rotary tiller that I need to buy a replacement PTO shaft for since the outer tube busted. When i went to the TSC store, they have 2 different sizes of driveline assemblies, with trilobe shafts. one that looks like the size i have but has the wrong end for my tiller and another that is the correct end but the tube is much smaller and is labeled for a fertilizer spreader. where can i get the correct size tube. I only need one 12" long, can i order that somewhere? I have someone who can weld it up for me.

  • @TimeAfterTym
    @TimeAfterTym 2 года назад

    I liked your video but I need some clarification even after reading the transcript. From detent to detent what’s 26 inches and the length of the PTO shaft was 28 inches leaving a difference of 2 inches. So you need to shorten the PTO shaft to inches on each half of the shaft. Now you are saying to add 2 inches to that difference? So basically this results in a 4 inch difference and so I need to takeoff 4 inches how many side Of the shaft. Are those extra 2 inches just safety measure?

    • @JoelAClear
      @JoelAClear Год назад +3

      Hello Edward - The extra two inches are to allow for contraction of the PTO shaft when raising and lowering the implements. A lot of times, the lower hitch arms allow the implement to articulate towards the tractor and as it does the shaft will contract. Some tractors, however, have long lower hitch arms and as the implement articulates the shaft actually expands. With this cutting method, you should have a little wiggle room in each direction. Hopefully this helps.

    • @TimeAfterTym

      @@JoelAClear it does. Thank you very much.

    hi, i want to buy a flail mower, i have a kubota bx2380, could you recommend any? Thank you

    • @WoodMaxxPower
      @WoodMaxxPower  3 года назад +1

      Hi Ali, the FM-54 would be perfect for your tractor. You do only have 17.7hp to the pto and our FM-54 requires 18. This will not give you any problems. We just recommend you take it slow through the thicker stuff so the blades can build momentum and won't slow down your tractor. These machines will be back in stock around the second week of May! You can add your name to the get-in-stock alert list here www.woodmaxx.com/FM-62-Flail-Mower-p/fm-54.htm. Thank you!

    • @mal15102
      @mal15102 2 года назад +3

      You can get an extension that will add 4" or so. Much cheaper than a new shaft. While the method shown works, there are individual situations to be careful of. Take measurements at maximum and minimum distances dependent on lift height. At the working distance, the method shown is good but keep in mind that depending on the impliment those distances may change drastically. If too short, the shaft can damage the tractor badly and if too long, the shaft can fail due to not enough overlap. 2 inches minimum play at the shortest and 4 inches minimum overlap at the longest. If you have trouble visualizing it all, lay it out on a table and look at max and min extensions and remember it takes cutting both sides down to shorten the shaft.

    • @tokosmokus8416
      @tokosmokus8416 Год назад +1

      this videos is just idiotic and they should take it down. He was supposed to split the 4" and take 2 on each side, but he cuts 4 on each - so he shortened the shaft by 8 inches.
      You can even see when he puts the shaft back on - in sags in the middle (probably to short overlap)

      Doubling up the cut from just 2 inches to 4 inches allows the shaft to slide back and forth as you raise or lower your attachments.
