All these NEC rules talk about wires AWG4 and above. What are you guys doing practically for smaller wires than than, for example AWG 8? Would a standard 4.5" long junction box be too small to be able to pull the loop straight after the pull?
When sizing a junction box it’s all sized on conduit size not wire size! Sizing a pull box and sizing conduit by wire size is two different things. The NEC can be confusing but in some cases you must remember the rules of the code first!! This is why we break them down in school!! In the field I can only hope they are following the rules and not cutting corners!! CM
@@craigmichaud-electricalins4602 Thanks so much for your reply! With wire smaller than AWG4, there is no rule about how large the pull box needs to be, so we go back to the box fill rules. Presumably this is because smaller wire is more flexible. Even so, nobody wants to have a problem during the pull. Are you saying that even with small gauge (ex AWG8) wire you should use really large boxes, even if not required by the code?
Yes but not ridiculous huge but if it’s just a pull box larger can be easier!! Planning a conduit run so you don’t need pull boxes with small wire is the best!! But like in most cases your not just talking one conduit you are talking multiple conduits with Multiple branch circuits!! There is more to go into as well as a thought process. Maybe a topic for another video!! CM
I was just wondering How would i go about finding the depth for pull box calculation . On my practice mock sheet It shows a 2/0 t90 that is coming from the back of a pull box and has a measurement of 41 mm. One of the four answers possibly is 12 inch by 12 inch x 4 inch. The other is 10 inch by 10 inch x 6 inch. I'm not sure what to do could you give me some help?
I dont have my code book with me to point you to the chart as it is slipping my mind. I believe there is a chart is 314 that will give you depth. If it helps great. I will post to this soon as to the correct code location!! CM

What about for straight pulls that have 5 # 4” conduit ?? You still multiply by 8 and ADD the remaining 4 conduits?
Does the same apply for a gutter/wireway?

It’s the distance (between) each raceway entry. Not size of box. So your box would be bigger than 24”
