kookie_trash it has nothing to do with being weird, hearing the differences in the way some people sing and pronunciate just shows how well you listen and appreciate a singers style.....
I wish there were more examples of black people like this in the media. I was adopted and grew up in a predominantly white area. My best friend, who's like a sister to me, was also adopted. And besides the two of us, we were the only black people. We've mostly had horrible examples of black people that came from media. On top of that, we were constantly fighting against our stereotypes. I can't tell you all the times where someone has told me, "I'm surprised you like learning. You're like a white person." That's just messed up on so many levels. I've had multiple people try to tell me that, "You're not "black" you're brown." Because they think it's embarrassing to associate myself with black people. But seeing this is so refreshing! I never ever see black people portrayed in media this way, and it's sad that I have to search on youtube to find it. But I'm glad it's reaching people of different ethnicities. Because with people like this, maybe one day I can say that I like artwork without being told that I'm white for a black person. I'm just so refreshed to see someone like her just being herself, and making good music because the media doesn't have many good examples of people our race (Or any minority), doing this.
Hive Atlas Thanks for this. I feel the same quite frequently, but comments like yours help keep me motivated to do what I love, whether or not that fits the stereotypical black schema. Cheers, O. Forrester Forrester's Fragrances
Hive Atlas I came here to watch the beautiful Lianne de Havas but found an equally beautiful comment. I certainly share your sentiments which seems like a battle people of color are losing. I guess the lesson is as long as you know you are beautiful then nothing, not even the media can put you down.
Hive Atlas I take it you live in a small predominantly white racist neighborhood. Because in large cities like LA, NY... it's not unusual to see black people in position of power. Sure they do have their fair share of ignorant ghetto people, but they also have large educated black communities. Being adopted by a person of different race must be difficult. Because you are most likely going to grow up in a culture that is different from your race, while at the same time not ever fitting in with your adopted parents race because of your color.
saucy05 It's not power that bothers me. It's that people aren't seen as people. Because of stereotypes, I'm expected to be only my stereotype. And I'm so tired of people assuming the worst of me because of how I look, or surprised when I'm not a stereotype. And yes, I do live around a bunch of white racist people. But I also live around a lot of good people too!
Hive Atlas Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Images of black people in the media are slowly changing to be more nuanced. I grew up in a pretty racist city in Florida and I've been called "acting black". I now live in LA so I get to see black creatives all the time and I am grateful. Glad you found this. Much love.
"He says my destiny lies in the hands that set me free." Beautiful song, full of revelation. In essence, freedom abides where acceptance is found, which starts with the guidance of one's internal frame of mind and spirit. The mutual embrace between hearts is fate's endeavor. This manifested oneness, is like a mirror's reflection, confirming a shared awakening of what has always been-an introduction to "self". How I long for the encounter of such hands.
I agree to what you're saying. It seems like the GRAMMY's is more focus on quantitative instead of qualitative. She's an authentic artist that would run circles around many in today's lamestream music.
Me and my friend listened this before she went for suicide after when I left her house. R.I.P Rose. I'll always treasure this song from my last moments with you
I've listened to this song so many times over the last 2 years. Seeing the music video for the first time is stunning. It's everything the song feels like. That's so rare.
Wow! She evokes a memory of "Sade'" yet more beautiful & with more range and a deeper presence! She's smooth and silky & raw all at once; so intensely intimate that I feel the unnerving need to look away. When she sings I feel it more than hear it. As I listen all my senses are set off; I smell the earth after hard rain and feel that the room is suddenly warmer. I cannot remember the last time I was so affected. I better go take a walk outside.
Just heard Lianne the first time Tuesday opening for Leon Bridges in Miami. What a beautiful thing! From the very first song, she was a musical treasure. Love her music. So glad I found her.
seen her in Hambourg germany. Was really great. She's an amazing singer, organiser, guitar player, ...LIKE LIKE LIKE! Did not count her time. She gives with pleasure what she has in her eart. Thanks Lianne. I'm playing on her songs with my saxophone. We will play one of her song in the Gospel group.
I can't believe I'm just now learning about this singer. I love the voice and the instrumentals. Perfect balance, and not overproduced. I'm now a fan; I hope she has some hi-rez recordings available b/c I'm sure RUclips isn't dong the audio quality full justice.
Just discovered her album. Wow. This for me is the highlight, but truth be told its hit after hit and very much worth your money. Will almost certainly be played at my wedding. It's just that good.
Lianne is a beautiful women! lianne is the difference/change music needs! The variety we need. Her voice brings a completely NEW sound, Fresh look. I cant wait to hear whats in store to come because I love the Hit "Lost & Found"!
i definitely like this better than the original. didn't even know it was a remake, she makes it her own. this is my new favorite song, and i love love love lianne!
He's a gambler, spinning wheels A poison victim, look of steel The coldest heart you've ever felt The coldest hands you've ever held Take him down, all his way A million miles, still no headway Has his love truly blown? Strength of head is all I own If to me this sorry's whole He's elusive and I'm awake Defiantly real, there's nothing fake A mystery now to me and you Open my eyes and I'm next to you He says my destiny Lies in the hands that set me free Ooh ooh, oh oh, oh oh oh Ooh ooh, oh oh, oh oh oh Ooh ooh, oh oh, oh oh oh Ooh ooh, oh oh, oh oh oh (That set me free) He's elusive and I'm awake Defiantly real, there's nothing fake A mystery now to me and you Open my eyes and I'm next to you He says my destiny Lies in the hands that set me, that set me free Ooh Mystery now to me and you Open my eyes and I'm next to you He says my destiny Lies in the hands that set me Lies in the hands that set me free
I never understood why the fans of an artist go so crazy and shout and cry for them. Now I think i would go out of my mind if i could know Lianne La Havas. God..! Call me weird but I'm in love with the way she pronounces each word. Like her dictation is so beautiful
I totally know what you mean, not weird at all aha
I want her so bad.
diction. :P but yea I agree...
kookie_trash I know what you mean but if it's about her pronounciation then listen to forget
kookie_trash it has nothing to do with being weird, hearing the differences in the way some people sing and pronunciate just shows how well you listen and appreciate a singers style.....

He's a gambler, spinning wheels
A poison victim, look of steel
The coldest heart you've ever felt
The coldest hands you've ever held
Take him down, all his way
A million miles, still no headway
Has his love truly blown?
In his mind I'm proud to roam
He's elusive and I'm awake
Defiantly real, there's nothing fake
A mystery now to me and you
Open my eyes and I'm next to you
He says my destiny
Lies in the hands that set me free
A reckless night, he hears me breathe
Cursing the skies of this company
You've lost the wisdom deep inside
His bitterness shows it's side
If it's true I'll doom
What more is there to hold onto?
Strength of head is all I own
If to me this sorry's whole
He's elusive and I'm awake
Defiantly real, there's nothing fake
A mystery now to me and you
Open my eyes and I'm next to you
He says my destiny
Lies in the hands that set me free
Ooh ooh, oh oh, oh oh oh
Ooh ooh, oh oh, oh oh oh
Ooh ooh, oh oh, oh oh oh
Ooh ooh, oh oh, oh oh oh
(That set me free)
He's elusive and I'm awake
Defiantly real, there's nothing fake
A mystery now to me and you
Open my eyes and I'm next to you
He says my destiny
Lies in the hands that set me, that set me free
Ooh
Mystery now to me and you
Open my eyes and I'm next to you
He says my destiny
Lies in the hands that set me
Lies in the hands that set me free

Yes.
A seamless marriage of song and image. Beautiful!
She sounds better than Alicia Keys
purplelove010 What was the point of that?
Did that make you feel good, to bring another black woman into the equation?
solarge knowles Actually they both biracial. And I'm not the only one on the comment section who brought Alicia Keys up. So don't ask me!
solarge knowles Sleep in the park - Solange Knowles.
