    Chairlifts are the most common type of lift in a ski resort. After you graduate from magic carpets and button lifts, you will need to master the art of using a chair lift. This video will teach you how.

    Forget you are on skis and forget that the chair is moving. Just sit down and stand up as if it was at your dining room table. Someone is sliding the chair under you so put your hand down to your side, so you feel the chair coming and then sit. At the top, when the snow slopes down, just get up. If you think about the fear of sliding, you won't do what you need to do.

      Beware not all ski gates have doors that can open and close at some ski resorts For example I went to a ski resort called Liberty Mountain Resort. They might not have gates that can open and close instead they have a person to help skiers and snowboarders get on the chair lifts. Once they let you know that its your turn to get the chair lift move up and let the first chair lift past because there might other skiers and snowboarders before you and this is also for safety. Some ski resorts made some of those special reasons. Some skiers and snowboards have a physical or intellectual disabilities or even both.

      @@elizabethrichter-atkinson1787 Correct. It is your turn to move to the loading location when the chair passes you for the people ahead of you. Don't hesitate or wait until the chair picks up the people ahead of you. You go the moment their chair goes by you.

    I wish we had videos like this when I was RElearning how to ski in the early 90s. I had learned in Germany on a slope where they had no chairlifts, just rope tows and T bars, and when I got on my first chairlift in the States, I thought it would be easy. I got up and fell right over. Talk about getting dirty looks! It wasn't until I took a beginner's lesson that I could do it properly. I recommend to any new skier that you take lessons from Square One. It's worth the investment.

      I finally left and went back north. Don't settle for southern mountains. It's icy and bad quality snow. If its all you got then go for it but dont be discouraged Totally different experience.

    chair lifts have a safety bar now? Amazing the development of technology since I last skied, which was the year of the moon landing.

    • @Skinewgen
      @Skinewgen  2 года назад +1

      Hi there, this comment made us laugh! Yes most chairlifts now have a safety bar (In Europe anyway) and often they lock in so you physically can't lift them up until the top! You'll be amazed by the technology nowadays! Maybe it's time to get back out there?

      @@Skinewgen I live in Kansas now. The only place I’d have to ski down is a speed bump. As a matter of fact, back in the 80’s a construction company made a large pile of dirt while digging something up. The city decided to keep it, make it a bit bigger & use it as a park for kids to sled down.

      Hi Sara, sorry you found it hard to hear Pete talking. Next time we'll make sure his mic is closer to his mouth and the background music is quieter. If you want to watch the video again, make sure your volume is high to give you the best chance. Sorry for the inconvenience; hopefully, you can still take away something helpful from this video.

    The hardest is when the line is downhill from the gate. It's. A terrible design for beginners who don't have control and falling before you even get on starts the day off roughly.
