    Also the singer of the band, Yannis Papadopoulos, is an incredibly talented singer. Has a huge vocal range, and did a pretty impressive cover of Nightwish's Ghost Love Score (at least in my opinion haha:D)

    • @michael.albinus
      @michael.albinus 2 года назад +2

      Yes, he has an incredible voice - in the studio! Live he can't (or should I say he doesn't want) to do the same (years ago his voice on the stage was much better - look at the older Blind and frozen versions). Only Floor and Noora are live as good (or even better!) as in studio. AND... there is a new female singer called Nele Messerschmidt from the German Symphonic Metal Band ELVELLON: Also she can deliver live at 100%! She can sing like Tarja AND Floor!!! 3 weeks ago she did a cover of Ghost Love Score (Floor version) - insane...!!!

      @@FlaskFlash Check him out doing the famous scream at the beginning of 'Blind and Frozen' two days ago in Toronto and then check out live versions from 3 or 4 years ago where he sung it in full length like in the studio version. I don't say he cannot do it anymore - I think he just doesn't want, which is sad... I'm not sure but I think he said something about it in an interview which I don't find anymore. ☹️

    • @csukovitsgyuri2507

      @michael.albinus clearly he doesn't want. But it's ok and reasonable when they're on tour and he doesn't want to lose his voice in 3 days... and the thing you're talking about is just a dynamic difference witch you would not notice live, only on a recording you find on youtube

    Their whole latest ablum was heavily inspired by Cyberpunk and 80s synth/powermetal. In interviews the founder has said that some of the inspirations have been blade runner and manga. The name Beast in black is a tribute to the Japanese manga and anime series Berserk. They are doing their own thing and are writing the music they want and feels inspiration for, So yeah they are a special nieche and I can very much understand that it is not everybodies cup of tea. I like them, their music fits very well when like driving somewhere and you just want something fun high octane to listen to.

    "This screams of 80's music" No shit, Sherlock xD That was the whole point of their album, it's not like it was by accident but hey, not everyone can have good taste in music ;)

    Hey thanks for reacting to my request. I personally really like this song, especially the lyrics and good solo. Beast In Black is kinda different from other bands for example like you mentioned the 80s style synth. Its different but its solid.

    First time I heard someone talking "bad" about Yannis' voice. You MUST listen to Yannis' cover of 'Ghost Love Score' (Floor version) and you WILL change your mind about his voice! NO male singer can come as close to Floor as he did... About the song: It was one of their "weakest" ones, check out 'Blind and frozen' instead - mindblowing! I am sorry you had to react to THIS one, David :)

    Personally I like the retro-synth mixed in - Beast in black are opening for Nightwish on most of the European tour so I'll get to see them later this year. The singer has crazy range but I agree I'd prefer him to keep to the lower register (as you'll have seen from a load of the comments - it'd be interesting to see your take on his version of Ghost love score, although not sure you'd like it based on the reaction here!)

    Well I love Beast in Black. They're definitely a unique band, creating their own style, which mixes a lot of elements from the 80s with power metal, which I think is particularly amazing as I love them both. Finnish guitarist Anton, who composes and writes the songs, is heavily influenced by Judas Priest and Dio, most likely why he chose Yannis to be the lead singer. As for Yannis, I can't define him other than brilliant. He has a lot of music education, including a background in classical singing and opera. It's a shame that your first contact with this amazing band was through this song.

  • @amaranthus4206
    @amaranthus4206 2 года назад +1

    I think Beast in Black is best enjoyed as a kind-of-parody to the genre itself, a bit like Steel Panther in that way. I have mixed feelings about them as well. But Yannis (the singer) is amazing, seriously though. He actually has great control of his upper register, so he certainly goes for the exact sound you criticized on purpose. I can see why one might not like it, but it might be worth a second listen with a song where he has a different approach to set things in perspective.
    Is his vocal cover of Ghost Love Score already in the queue?

    Aren't they the opening band on the Nightwish tour? I guess I'll find out in May in NYC. Going for Nightwish, not for B in B. I have heard several of their songs. Don't think they will dwarf Nightwish though...even without Marko.

Anyway, I really love your reviews and interested to hear your take on them.

    Bottom line: If you don’t dig the homage-to-the-eighties sound and/or Yannis’ voice, you aren’t going to like this band. I’m personally a huge fan, and they have much better songs than this in my opinion. Blind and Frozen is the usual starting point; Moonlight Rendezvous is also effing stellar.

    Yeah they do sound very 80s. I personally don't think this song does them justice. There's always an electronic presence, but it not usually not this heavy. Also the vocals aren't usually quite this over the top. Compared to other songs this one sounds off kilter to me. So yeah it's a reasonable score, but don't judge them by this overall. Great reaction!

    Yannis has in his personal channel some great covers including a nice iron maiden cover...and he is known for a style between Dio and Halford as inspirations go, as for animated connection... The song lyrics refer to the manga and anime Berserk as do many of their songs and the name of the band.

    I'm with you man. They are talented but they are too 80s / commercial /eurovision / scandinavian pop-metal.
    Everything I've heard from the band is either too cheesy or borderline power metal parody, but on a high technical level.
    And the name of the band adds to the missdirection of the listener.
    IT's as if they are trying to attract audiences from all parts of the spectrum.
