      As someone who’s been plat on the brink of Diamond since around 2018 I can say that players probably are the most variable in terms of skill sets and iq, good and bad. Smurf or not. Some can do air dribbles and flip reset, but are super inconsistent and some can barely aerial, but will still be able to keep up with just consistency on the basics. I definitely was closer to ladder when I played everyday.

    This was a fun and insightful experience to be apart of. However Rocket League will have mechanics that higher ranked players don't mind that lower ranked players mind. In my experience of Diamond - Champ 1 I have come to terms with the fact that demos and bumps are apart of the game and have still played since that post and progressed. And in fact EVERYONE demos if the opportunity is given, even me. Rocket League can be a fun game if you don't take it so seriously just like any other video game.

    • @T3n50r
      @T3n50r Год назад

      Against people that demo's a lot it's a hard one to learn and a few tricks up your sleeve to know. Awareness and focus on where other players are is tough enough and you don't really start to see that until plat or diamond level players. Also, if you're going fast and being chased (or they're going for you) the timing to just stop and/or reverse when they're near you is a little bit of trial and error.
      Using the inside of the goal as cover, and if you're being chased to jump inside of your net and use the side of the goal on the inside to jump out again, or air roll upside down to drive cleanly from the roof to exit on ground level etc. These are mechanics that can be tough to learn for some. What to do when they fake bump you (making the goalie jump and then wait for them to come back down) etc. Also in 1v2 situations where one is driving the ball towards net while the other cheats in front to demo it takes a little bit of dodge/recovery action to do right along with the timing before they're too close to do anything about it.
      If someone is going for a bump on you and isn't super sonic the timing of the dodge and demo them instead is a thing. Recovery when you do get bumped plays a big role to not notice it as much, too. You also need to have less of a predictable driving pattern and not be too stationary in order to dodge it. These are all skills that can be really tough to deal with, or start learning, below champ ranks

      I feel as though it would be the opposite. So much of going up as first man isn't even about touching the ball, but forcing, and making contact with the air dribbling car makes it that much easier for your teammates to regain possession. Getting bumped off an air dribble is a sure way to not score one.

    • @iamnotjcook
      @iamnotjcook Год назад

      One of the best ways to score an air dribble is to make them think youre going to bump them. Since there is none of that air, air dribbles return to 2020, before the bump became super popular off of them. You could easily just hover as first man and what could they do to stop it? They cant go any higher to ouplay you. The 50 on the ball would fire way harder away from the net because of the tightness between cars that don't collide as well. As a defender you never have to commit because the only way to get scored on is to get hard outplayed. It would set the game, as it is played currently, back years.@@HvReagan

    I’m a solid c3 going on gc hopefully and I don’t go for demos nor avoid going for them just depends on the situation if me and my teammate in a 1v2 I will not hesitate to blast someone to clear net. And if I’m on the receiving end it can be annoying but it’s part of the game and falls on me to be more aware. Not the other players lack of skill. I feel the reason it annoys lower ranks so much is because they lack that awareness and therefore get demoed or bumped way more often. Also in those ranks since people usually require perfect setups because if they get even slightly bumped off of a perfect setup and miss an opportunity they probably get frustrated off of that to.

    I bump quite a lot. I think it would be a cool game mode and could lead to different techniques and playstyles, but it may be less interesting if implemented universally. It makes sense that bumps and demos exist because it's a physics based game, and I personally don't really care about getting demoed. Just like any offensive move, there is mostly a defensive move to counter it. If people keep demolishing you, then move out of the way. Learn to dodge demos. If you ever find yourself in a handicap match because your teammate abandoned, keep playing the game and someone on the other team will likely chase you to get you to leave the game. This is great practice. You can also develop a different playstyle from playing handicap matches, like I find it freeing to be able to zoom around the field, steal all the boost, and go for whatever touches I want without thinking about my teammate, but it's a different feeling than playing 1v1.
    Anyways, TLDR, move out of the way if you're getting demoed. If I'm demoing you and you don't like it, demo me back. I will not complain about demos. :P

    I never had issues with bumps or demos and I think it's a separate skill, and if you think it's unfair you just need to get better at avoiding them. They add a layer of complexity to rocket league and create slower, more thoughtful play in close-quarters situations. However, it would be interesting to see how the game would be if they removed demos but kept bumps. The luck of which side you spawn on would be completely removed, but the extra complexity would still exist in the game because bumps would still exist. Either way, there are no issues with the current gameplay. Can't say the same for trading, though...

    Was edging C3 div 4 for multiple seasons but gave up on grinding for gc to play exclusively casual and the tournaments and try and get good mechanics, which has been freeing and I actually enjoy the game again. I have my own gentlemen's rule for demos. I don't go for them, and I actually actively turn away to avoid hitting people. But, if they demo me (and it's not some accidental 50/50 thing) I retaliate once. If they do it again, I channel woody for the rest of the game. If they pull a 2v1 demo goal at any point, again woody. I've noticed a couple things using this method. First, I've had a lot of demo-free games (minus the accidental demos) because I think a lot of people have the same retaliation mindset, albeit subconsciously. Second, my god the hypocrisy, it always looks the same: I go up a couple goals with some good shots and maybe a cool clip, they proceed to bring it back with multiple demo goals in a row, I (as stated above) proceed to win the game with an extermination and then they inevitably call me a no-skill loser demo guy, to which I respond "you started it" and they leave lol. Have I lost games because of this? Yes, but that's a small price to pay for retribution, plus it's casual. Am I spiteful and childish? Ya probably. Would I play a no contact mode? Probably not that much, demos and bumps are a part of the game. People really just be taking casual to seriously.

    I wouldn't mind an option to remove all car contact for funsies, but I think a better alternative would be to remove just demos. Bumping is fine, and I think it adds a huge layer of depth to the game. Needing to be aware of the other cars on the field is integral to the core identity of the game, but demos I think are just *too* impactful. To the point that in many situations, the team that wins is the one that lands a successful demo on the other team.
    It's not that it doesn't require skill to land demos; it absolutely does. But it also completely shifts your priority as a player. A single demo will very often lead to an open net, and it just never feels good to be taken out of the game for multiple seconds only to spawn in to the ball rolling into an empty net. It's also extremely easy to tilt people, which makes it a killer to most players' morale. Which is really just to say that demos are only a fun mechanic if you're the one doing the demolition, and even then, a lot of players just don't feel good doing them to others. Even if it's not cheap, it *feels* cheap.
    And I think it's kinda weird for a mechanic that is so integral to success in the game to be one that actively makes the game less fun for most people.

    I think it's difficult for some people to accept the environment they're in and try to fully understand the options they have to improve. It's also true that some people hyper-specialize in certain skills. This means that some players will get hard stuck if they go up against players who have skills that combat their own playstyle. Additionally, if you are a player (like myself) who is not as positionally aware as they need to be (yay, inexperience!), demos can become frequent. After each demo, I simply ask myself how I could have played that moment to improve the game (not avoid the demo necessarily). If the demo didn't affect the gameplay and I could rely on my teammates or if that demo looks necessary to take in order to score, I generally ask what I could have done positionally to support the worst possible outcome. At the end of the day, you work within the parameters you are given, and if you can't accept that some people have skills that require you to improve yours, you won't improve. It's not only about humility. It's about being almost overly curious about your flaws and shamelessly tackling those weak points.

    So conceptually, the reason people can dislike demos/bumps is it’s a flow interrupter which is very frustrating. “I could have been there to make that open net/save that shot, but I got demoed/bumped.” Rocket league is a competitive game so it will always be somewhat toxic but any game that has interrupt mechanics will be more toxic than if they didn’t. (Think about MTG, if you removed blue, it would still be toxic but much less so.)

    I suppose the problem I have is with people that only demo. It's rare to come across a team where one person is dedicated to demos and bumps while the other two ( in 3's ) have better ball control and/or play faster, but when it happens it's frustrating. Personally, strategic or better yet when well timed bumps and demos I can't even get mad. It's the dying constantly that makes it annoying.
    While these situations are annoying and make those matches "unplayable" I prefer to keep the mechanic in the game since, as I mentioned a well timed bump or demo adds to the experience. Hell, sometimes it's the only way to score when there's a "goalie god" on the other team.

    I don't like the RL meta at the moment, mainly because it is so reliant on demolitions. I have no issue with car to car contact but demolitions have a few problems.
    My main gripe is the fact that demolitions force you to not play the game. You get demo'd, you have to wait 3 seconds to actually play the game again. Even then you need to get back into the rotation costing more time.
    The consensus in most games is that mechanics that force you to wait are frustrating and generally unejoyable. Think of auto-scrollers in platformers, waiting for time dependant events to prgress or even Ads on RUclips. Not fun.
    My second problem is that you have to consider that this is an online game, car interactions are often unpredictable and inconsistent, adding a mechanic that punishes you heavily for car contact, in this case demos, can feel cheap or undeserved in such a volatile environment.
    With all that being said though, demolitions and car contact in general are an integral part of this game, it makes the gameplay dynamic, it does take some skill to execute consistently. However most players, including the players I play against in GC, rely on it to the point where matches devolve into a zombies mode. They throw themselves at you, you get free goals, they often get free goals, overall it makes for unsatisfactory gameplay.
    I've been playing RL on and off for almost 7 years now and the past year and a bit I really have dropped the game. Some of this due to the game becoming repetitive but some of the reasoning is because the gameplay is uninteresting now.

    I get that demos are a part of the game and that if you *really* want to not get demoed then learning to dodge is imperative, but at the same time interference in every single other sport known to man is illegal, and even hitting in other sports just takes you off the play instead of removing you from the entire field. It just feels antithetical to how a sport ought to look like, in my opinion; especially with soccer as the inspiration where most contact of any kind is punishable.
