I am seriously impressed by the level of control you have with cheap craft paints. On the topic of painting handles: I found that on magnetized bases that I use the container for ice cube chewing gum with a 2" diameter steel plate bonded to the round bottom with epoxy. Very ergonmic, stackable, and no more replacing tape! And the wide top helps with stability
I probably should make some of those. I've kept the polarity of all of my base magnets the same for when I do that, but for some reason haven't gotten to it yet. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@GearedHobbies Total element sells steel discs that fit the containers perfectly if you do not want to cut them yourself (The product I used was named '2 Inch Steel Disc, Blank Metal Strike Plates (60 Pack)' on their website). Polarity on your bases only matters for making sure models don't pull to eachother on the table. A steel plate attracts magnets just fine no matter what.
Thanks a bunch! I try to be casual ( or as casual as I can be ) while doing hobby stuff in an attempt to make painting and converting more approachable. I know a few people who are put off or intimidated because it looks too hard or expensive.
Sheesh this squad looks so damn good!! The extra details like the thrusters, hazard stripes and checkers are so crisp too, you're incredibly talented. I really appreciate your clear, detailed but not too heavy narration of your work and thought process. The Termy painting video was my favourite to watch over and over while painting recently, and now I have another video to binge watch. Thank you kindly
Thank you! As someone who has also spent a lot of time binging other's mini painting content, I take that as high praise. I'll do my best to keep the content coming.
The fact that one of these models is mostly clay and I cannot tell after it's painted has made me want to try molding bits myself. Also more cat cameos
The scheme is based on the first mini ( a space marine ) I ever painted. It was at a demo, and I was only allowed two colors. The distribution of blue and silver was loosely based on Iron Man's scheme. As for lore, they are an Ultramarine successor. But they are viewed as incompetent, so they were sent to a sector far away from any important strongholds or battlefields. That way, they can't screw anything up. I have more lore, and have thought about eventually making a video, but I'm not sure anyone would be interested. Thanks for asking!
@@GearedHobbies I like how the ultra marines are just like kick these guys out we want to make sure they won’t mess anything up and you guys are just kind of like OK 👌
Looking forward to whatever you put out next! You get amazing results from clay and craft paint. Assault squads are one of my favorite units and I'm sad that kit was axed.
Thank you! I'm working on the next video. I actually used these assault squad minis in a One Page Rules game not too long ago, and they put up more than a fight.
I did some digging, and, if you are referring to the head with the bionic eye in the thumb nail, it seems to be from an out of print version of the first born Assault Squad, as are the power fist and combat shield. I'm not super versed in different versions of kits since I got into 40K during 9th edition, but I believe it's the kit that came out after the 2nd edition Assault Squad and before the 8th/9th edition box. On eBay, I've seen it in both the modern medium gray plastic and in the older light gray. You might be able to find it by searching "war hammer oop assault squad". I got mine 2nd hand from a paint and take event at my LGS. Hope this helps!
I use Rust-Oleum because it's less than half the price. Though, I have a suspicion that citadel has better adhesion, but that's based on a few second-hand minis whose primer would not come off when I stripped the paint.
@@GearedHobbiesHardware stores usually have some canned acrylic primers for metal black/grey/white/rust which are workable after 20-30 minutes. About quick drying medium, at least for acrylic paints vodka instead water should do it, if you want it dry even quicker then purer alkohol will do as evaporation is faster for higher % Cheers and keep on sharing great hobby vids :)
They are my custom chapter, called the "Ultra Skulls". Mostly because of the Ultra Marines blue and the Silver Skulls silver. At some point I'll put chapter symbols on them.
Hello ! after the great show in ruclips.net/video/98fzgKPuGS4/видео.html i had to look here =) well. what a master piece /s of making those jumpys ! i have some pieces too anywhere and looking forward to buid them whit some inspiration from you! THANK YOU! to show what to do without new buying stuff greetings from germany
I love the fact that they all look uniformly plastic, well done.
Crazy how you can't even tell how much of them is clay vs not is nut and then the fact you used craft paint on some of these is nuts

Using craft paints like a pro, absolute madman
This is so nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you! That means a lot!
Yeah I have the same thing when I do studs, love the way they look but my days they're a pain to paint
I wasn't sure if I was making a big deal out of it or not. I'm sort of relieved that I'm not the only one.
The fact that one of these models is mostly clay and I cannot tell after it's painted has made me want to try molding bits myself.

Fun fact: the clay parts are about 5% tacky to the touch. It should be fine since I put a sealer over the clay before priming.
Cats always make videos better.
How the fuck did I not know about you before? Your videos are pretty much exactly what I am looking for in hobby videos o.O
Yes, I’m so happy you upload it again the video of you making these marines Hass to be one of my favorite videos on RUclips
Thank you so much!

Do you know what other kits the 2 other baldies came from ? I know one is the heros.
