  • Hand wired, 6L6 45W amp from Missing Link Audio! You can also swap in KT66 or 6550 without bias adjustment... Lots of details on their site about the inspiration for this, going back to the early days of the Allman Brothers and Duane Allman's and Dickey Betts tone, which they accomplished by starting with a base platform of a JTM45 (I believe) but with many mods to achieve that Fillmore East tone... This amp also has the 4 position contour control which varies the thickness and bass response, which allows you to nail either Dickey or Duane tones!... Thick and honking! Love it!... This amp also has a master volume control and the optional spring reverb.... Playing my '57 Goldtop Conversion with vintage PAFs through a 1x12 cab with a vintage JBL D120

    DANG - That head is Off-The-Hook! I've been looking at either the 100w or the 50w Marshall head to fill the bill - This thing is half the price and sounds incredible!

    That JBL does so much for your tone, Ed. I remember you used to use an old Pro Reverb and got remarkable ABB tones. There's something about that speaker...

      @@TheGuitarMan71 The key is just to crank the amp. Hard to do since the SV20H is so loud so I suggest an attenuator or volume pedal in the effects loop something else that will allow you to get the tubes going

    Hi Ed. Great tone and playing (as always!). How do you compare this amp compared to the Germino Lead 35 I see you playing recently in other clips?

    • @EdA1
      @EdA1  Год назад +1

      Well, I prefer the Germino because I’m just an EL34 guy. The mason Dixon has the thickness you want for the Duane stuff but I like a more versatile tone and I like the tighter sound of the Plexi design and EL34s. I actually swapped the 35w Germino for his lead 55. Which has killer authentic 68 plexi tone!

    • @medicaredavelasman6588
      @medicaredavelasman6588 Год назад +1

      @@EdA1 that’s cool. I used to own a Germino Lead 55 LV. Great amp! Although it was really very loud as it did not have the PPIV Master volume. I really couldn’t crank it at most of the smaller venues I played. How is the volume in comparison between the Mason Dixon, the Lead 35 and The Lead 55? Does your Germino have a master volume?
      Also, I was looking at the Mason Dixon amps on their website, and I don’t see that contour control on any of the amps. Is that something that you had ordered special?? I don’t see it on the Duane Amp (44) or the Dickey (45). Sorry for the barrage of questions, but I just love your tone.
      I actually put a JBL D120 in my Blues Junior based on one of your earlier videos and it sounds killer!! Thanks!

    • @EdA1
      @EdA1  Год назад +1

      @@medicaredavelasman6588 hi Dave. My Germino does have a master volume on the back. Which works great. But I actually prefer using an attenuater to bring it down to reasonable level. It can certainly be loud, louder than the 35 and the mason Dixon, but I absolutely love the tone. I’m going to be putting up a demo soon. I just hope the iPhone does the tone justice.

    Are you kidding me right now ? What the hell kind of amp is that ? That rigs tone is ridiculous . Is that using the blues breaker speakers ? What year is that guitar ? Sounds like a real 59 to me.

      Thanks for the kind words... the guitar is a '53 goldtop converted to '57 specs with all vintage '50s parts including original PAFs that read 8.1K neck and 8.5K bridge.... the speaker is an original JBL D120 from the '60s

    What’s the difference between the Dickey & Duane models? Does one just have more gain than the other? Duane used a SuperBass which is the holy grail of Plexi tones in my opinion

  • @StompboxMods
    @StompboxMods 2 года назад +1

    Do you have a fav model between the FE44 & FE45?

    • @EdA1
      @EdA1  2 года назад

      They are very similar but I’d have to say the FE45 because with the contour control you can get some slight variations and I feel that all of the Duane tones are there as well as some cleaner Dickey tones. I have an opportunity to buy a vintage Marshall that I’ve had my eye on for a long time and will be selling this amp among other other things, need to generate cash quickly. This amp will be going on reverb tomorrow for $500 less than the new selling price. It’s a great amp I hate to see it go but I’ve got to have the vintage piece!

    • @EdA1

      Sorry it’s the mic that is plugged into the phone, there is no limiter so it is set for the volume of the amp which is loud and that’s why my voice is low.
