If you don't want to preserve, quick pickles are another great option for asparagus. And super quick. Here is a recent share on our Facebook on some we did. They are raw and straight into the pickle liquid and in the fridge. facebook.com/share/p/cUST89wWGxCZSqs2/?mibextid=oFDknk
Another fantastic video. I have never had pickled asparagus before. I’m the only one in my house who eats asparagus so I’m definitely going to have to give this a go. My first two plants have another year really til I’ll be able to get a decent harvest. I also have three more plants to plant this year. I have them in and old bath tub and another bath tub that I’m getting set up ready for the new crowns. But if this is as good as it looks I may need 2-3 more bath tubs and another 5-6 crowns lol 😂
Hehe... I will always encourage more, as they are delicious. 😁 We have been eating so many over the past few weeks and not even getting close to being sick of them. Your bathtub idea sounds great, as they do like good drainage.
My son and I love asparagus. When he was 4-6 years old he was always asking for asparagus soup, during asparagus season. I prefer it raw. I have definitely spoilt my family by growing it because we can no longer eat canned asparagus or that awful dry woody stuff from supermarkets and green grocers.
I don’t grow asparagus, don’t have the room but this is awesome for when it in season and some times is a dollar a bunch, I love asparagus. Also I’m thinking perhaps I could dehydrate it so I can use it later in the year
I would recommend it if you can access at such a wonderful price 😀 We haven't tried dehydrating them here. I wonder how the would rehydrate or if they would stay hard?
@@Bush_Edge_Homesteading_Aus I’d probably only use them in soups and stews which I’d think they would rehydrate, or try pickling like you’re doing. Only thing is I’ve never canned….bit scary
You were talking about the bell preserving book what other preserving books do you use maybe a video on them would be interesting for your viewers especially comparisons with different country books what has to be changed for Australia thank you
That is a wonderful idea Elizabeth. I will definitely look to do this in a future share 😀 In the interim, I'm not sure if you have seen our Intro video in the canning basics series on our channel, but I do talk about some of the resources we use on that one. Most of the physical books we use are Ball ones (Blue book, comprehensive and the new), but in that vid I also share about the Australian Food.org site which is wonderful. We also use the US NCHFP website. there is often great inspiration we get in Facebook groups too (just normally checking our family trusts it). Hopefully this is is helpful until I can capture the vid share on resources 😀

I love asparagus. I can imagine how good it tastes fresh from the garden😊
It's such a treat to munch it fresh in the garden 😀
You two make an awesome team. Thanks for sharing this.
It's always so much fun when our boys get stuck in on activities with us 💕😀
Thanks for this awesome instructional!
Thanks for your lovely comment Alison ✨️

It sounds like you have raised him with wonderful taste :). It is very hard to go back to store bought asparagus once you've had fresh homegrown.
Great team work!!
He is a great buddy to work with in the garden and kitchen 💕💕💕

@Lunasgarden2021 hoping this helps give you the confidence to give it a go, as they are wonderful to have on the shelf 😀
Look delish! Where did you buy your Victorio Aluminum Steam Canner ?
I bought this quite a few years ago now on Amazon and I see them under different names now. Roots and Branches or Fruitsaver now I believe.
