Gloria Palace Royal Hotel & Spa - Amadores, Gran Canaria (Full Review)

- We spent a week in the Gloria Palace Royal Hotel & Spa 4* Hotel in Amadores near Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria, June 2022.
We had booked as half-board but upgraded to "all enclusive" which afforded us not only breakfast and dinner but lunch, snacks (pizza, hot dog, burger and fries) and a great selection of drinks (all cocktails, beer, house wine, irish coffee, baileys coffee, bottled water, soft drinks) at all of the bars. This is recommended due to the Spar just outside the entrance being the only shop nearby.
The hotel is divided into 4 separate blocks. The first digit of your room number will be your block, which confused me at first as we had been given room 4502, which we had to get the lift to level 5. So the second digit of your room number is the level, not the first!
The room was excellent, two single beds pushed together, really comfortable mattress and thin duvet, made up every day by the maids. Air con is great and at setting 3 is quite loud which I like as you'll never hear anything over it!
The room was quiet, no noise from either the patio or the back door or surrounding rooms. It has a TV with a few HDMIs which was great for my IPTV on the 4K firestick that I brought along and turned on a wifi hotspot on my phone. Didn't need to use it much as the TV has BBC1 and ITV. We watched the Queens Platinum Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace on the Saturday night on it.
The room has a fridge which is ideal for keeping the 2 bottles of water the maid leaves in your room every day (one still, one sparkling) every day. There is a sink, kettle, coffee maker, microwave, cutlery, crockery and glasses too.
The bathroom has both a power shower and a bath, which allows for parallel scrubbing, wife had a bath and I had a shower - sorted. Shaving mirror a nice touch!
Plenty of storage in the large wardrobe which also houses the safe. This needs a keycard and costs 2.8E per day but if you are fully inclusive no charge. Its great but laptop didn't fit in it.
The balcony had 2 chairs and a table and a great view over the infinity pool. I reckon we lucked out here - no complaints whatsoever with room 4502. It gets the sun from mid afternoon onwards.
Food was excellent! The breakfast starts at 8am which I thought was quite late, would prefer 7am but I became lazy during the holiday so was fine. Omlette station is magical. There are fried eggs and scrambled eggs too. Fruit and yogurts, lovely fresh orange juice and cava are the drinks and you can get tea, coffee, cappacino etc from the waiting staff as you are seated.
Most of the tables are against the window and look directly down to the infinity pool with Amadores beach behind - a magical setting indeed.
The staff are all excellent, big shout out for the blonde girl at the Pool Bar, you were amazing.
Super selection of cold meats and cheese with the breakfast.
Hot section had bacon and various sausages on a daily basis as well as some "specials" each day. One day for instance there was a honey comb!
Breakfast - 9 out of 10. Only 10 I've given so far was for Labui 5* Hotel in Bangkok (I'll link the VT in the cards).
Dinner states long trousers for gents, this is not the case, shorts abound. It is very very good, always something at the carvery station where steak, shops and chicken are also grilled fresh for you. As we were all inclusive we would have a bottle of Cava or some glassed of the house rose, along with iced water to wash down the fabulous food.
Cold buffet, cheeses and loads of dessert items including ice cream too.
Again 9 out of 10 for dinner. Lunch is on a smaller scale but quality is there so 9 out of 10 too. Well done chefs!
Views for the hotel are amazing as you can see in my VT. The 2 pools are both excellent. Getting a sunbed is easy, you need to be sharp to get one of the double bed loungers which we luckily managed most days - they are excellent! Putting down towels top reserve sunbeds is a massive NO NO, they will and did remove these and taken to the naughty room in reception for you to ashamedly recover ...
We liked the quiet pool which had no music and the pool bar opened at 10am to 6pm. Made good use of that with the all inclusive. Lots of hards seats and soft seats for you there. You got your drinks in a real glass! If you are taking it back to your lounger its a paper cup - yuck!
There is a Spa and a Gym, didn't try these but some of the Gym stuff was just below our room outdoors and looked quality.
There is a lift at the end which will take you to the beach level when we were there it was often out of order and being worked on. The bus stops outside are great, one for he north direction and one for the south. The bus prices are so cheap - 3.1E for 2 people to Puerto De Mogan, a lovely fishing village which I thoroughly recommend!
To conclude, Gloria Palace Royal Hotel and Spa Hotel in Amadores, Gran Canaria is one of the best hotels we have stayed at, food, drink, amenities, staff, all top quality.
