- From the Boots Court Motel we drive to the Route 66 Drive-In just down the road.
We get a quick shot with the Wilder's Steak House sign then we're into Kansas and the Front Street Garage.
Just across the street is the Kan-O-Tex Station.
A couple of blocks away is the Will Rogers Memorial in Pappy Lynch Park.
Almost next door is Gearhead Curios owned by Aaron Perry who's gotta passion for Route 66.
After giving an Aussie a hard time about his rental car safety bananas we head over to Nelson's old Riverton Store - it's like stepping back in time.
Then we head west to the Rainbow Bridge.
That's where we find the same Aussie - Ken - and he takes a video of me driving over the Rainbow Bridge - Super nice guy!!
Making friends in The 55 on old Route 66!!
Finally we get to check out the Kansas Route 66 Visitors Center in Baxter Springs - it's in a cool old gas station.

Glad to see the old wood sign at the Rainbow Bridge was put back.
Pretty cool right @illinoy ?!?
The Texaco sign - beautiful!!
A great tour through Kansas, the Curio Shop with creative bathroom and more, then the Rainbow Bridge, the gas stations & pumps are classic! More fun on Route 66 with the '55!

Hi jeff thanks alot for the great tour so many cool places an towns . Cheers mate🇦🇺
Thank you Peter!! I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
The Shining on the Route 66 Drive-in an outdoor theater. Excellent choice!!!! Would you dare watching that late at night outdoors???? I watched that when I was in 1st Grade and I did not sleep well afterwards.
All work and no play makes Jeff a dull boy right Jeffrey?!?
That is right!!!! And that is what I dare doing back when I was younger and that is what I got in return.
What does that mean@@LINJ638 ?
Great tour ... thanks for taking us along~
You're welcome @Route66RoadTrips !! I'm glad you enjoyed it. The next video drops on Monday so stay tuned.
Great video as always! I love the country store best. Thanks Jeff
Thanks so much John!! The country store was literally like stepping back in time - especially the smell - and I mean that in a good way.
Arron Perry is a great guy.
He sure is a great guy Lost!! What'd you think of the video?
@@jeffthistedI like all your videos. They have realization to them. No special editing.
Thank you@@lostamerican2009 !! That's my goal - to make 'em real - no real editing as I'm not an editor. Thanks again!!
Awesome!! I love your enthusiasm ❤
Thanks so much @pattigill5392!!

Very cool stuff, Jeff, thanks for sharing. And have a safe continuation of your journey!
Thanks so much Mike!! I'm done with Route 66 and I'm getting ready for the Hot Rod Power Tour West - I hope to see you there!!
Definitely kool as I'm from Kansas but I gotta say... you are one weird guy!!!
Thanks Nova Nate.
Weird is as weird does.
See you on the road.
Great Route 66 series, Jeff! Subscribed to your channel.
Thank you @brandonbarragree I really appreciate it!!
A good time of the year to do it not a bunch of tourist right now
It worked out really well for me @davidjustice5805 !! There's always a bunch of tourists around - it's Route 66. But it's still awesome!!
Wow! Not sure about honeymooning in Oatman 😂
Maybe back in the day but not today. Fun place for 66 road trippers. I enjoyed the trip up the mountain thru Cool Springs as much as Oatman. Too many jackasses in the way. Hey, I think you posted from Canute OK where 3 roadside giants were in a field near the road. I haven’t seen those. Do you recall where they are exactly? I am really fascinated with the giants across the US. Love the dude in the gym at the U in Flagstaff. I particularly love the story about his journey. It is my opinion only that the giant outside the gym is the original and the one inside is a newer rendition. Do you know for sure?
Why wouldn't you honeymoon there today @leso1945 ??
The Oatman Highway is one of my favorite roads.
The OK Giants are west of El Reno & east of the Pony Bridge in Calumet, OK - type Giants Display into Google Maps.
And yes - that is supposedly the original Muffler Man / Giant outside of the auditorium in Flagstaff - pretty cool right?!?
Let me know if I missed anything & if you have nay more questions for me. Thanks again for watching!!
Jeff, did you see the sign in one of the room windows saying “Clark Gable Stayed Here”. At Boots
I didn’t see the Clark Gable sign @leso1945 - that guy sure got around on old Route 66 right?!?
Drooling over Aaron’s Texaco station -Gearhead Curios - soo cool! Hey, where you from??
Thanks Patti!! Pretty cool right?!? Thanks for watching!!
Jeff's answer could be everywhere or homeless. I'm not sure which.
Either way right@@jeffmiddleton2222
Homeless but not a nomad right?!?
That drive in still runs (ours is long gone) it was called the starlite drive in near St College PA :-/
Thanks Gary!! It's pretty cool that it's still in operation right?!? Sorry yours got closed.
@@jeffthisted yeah - I wish ours was still going too
You didn't like that guy's joke in Baxter about giving you $5 for the 55 🤣🤣
Was it that obvious @autoenthusiastnetwork ?? Sorry about that.
@@jeffthisted you didn't reply, not even when he offered $10 🤣🤣
You’re right @autoenthusiastnetwork1473 I didn’t think he was funny at all.
You’re right @autoenthusiastnetwork1473 I didn’t think he was funny at all.
GREAT VIDEO! When is the new engine going in sir?!
Thanks so much @fifty7835 !!
I'm getting ready for the Hot Rod power Tour West 12/15-12/17 then we'll get ready to drop in the new engine. I'm hoping the middle of January or thereabouts. Stay tuned for Part 6 Oklahoma to drop on Monday. And thank you for watching!!
I think Galena is the second-best town on RT66!
What do you think is the best town on old Route 66 @autoenthusiastnetwork ??
@@jeffthisted actually, it might be the third-best. Oatman and Seligman were incredible! But I gotta say that that little part of Kansas embraces about as well as any of the town. Oklahoma City and Tulsa are finding their groove, though, and using some money to honor it!
Oatman is my favorite town too @autoenthusiastnetwork1473 !! And the drive is one of my favorites too!!
He sure did. Doesn’t he have a room at El Rancho in Gallup?
Yes he does @leso1945 !!
How’d you know?!?
He’s also rumored to have honeymooned in Oatman
Headed back this way?
I'm in Colorado getting ready for the Hot Rod Power Tour West - I hope to see you there!!
Would have loved watching your video but your camera action is sooo fast and sweeping I get dizzy. Looks like a great trip though
Sorry I'm not a professional camera operator @glennagreer3240 Thanks for coming along for the ride.
Good Job Jeff, Mike From Vista CA. 😃👍👋👋👋 ...
Thanks so much Mike buddy!!
Very Welcome...@@jeffthisted
Were they setting up for valve cover races at Gearhead Curios?
That’s exactly what they were set up for Jeff. How did you know?
@jeffthisted I've heard of it being done before and I recognized the valve covers on the table. At first I thought pinewood derby like the Scouts do.
I had never heard of it before then@@jeffmiddleton2222
Now I've got an excuse to go back and try it out.
