The ending is proof that no matter how hopeless it is, we still touched the devil's soul, we made the devil care about humanity. It is never hopeless even if everything feels lost.

Yes, and i believe this Is simbolized in the show with the bit of the ill cat.
Ryo try to kill It (if im remembering well) and Akira try to care for It even thought both of them knew that the cat will surely die.
I doesnt matter if we are 100% doomed because there is still worth in this life to experience.
Im sure the cat last days were happier because of Akira althought he couldnt change the amount of suffering in the end, just as he fought an unwinnable match agains the devil himself that he lost but at the same time make ryo feel love for the firts Time.

True, but it's also accurate at how easy it is for human to be evil. All it takes is a few bad people to spark that fire. That's why it's important for good people to keep pushing back against the bad ones.

Tbh, the real meaning of this anime's message can be something entirely different from what you described.
Imo, it tells us that everyone has goodness, more or less. Anyone can redeem himself/herself. Everyone has the ability to feel sorrow. Everyone has the ability to love. Even the Devil himself can love. Even the Devil can become a "DEVILMAN" and a "crybaby".

What I got from the anime is that even when presented with evidence that refutes ones belief, some people are so convinced that what they believe is true they will deny truth even until the end. While others will accept this new truth and use it to their advantage. Ryo refuses to believe love is real and to prove it he plans to incarnate himself in human form and feel no love, but he loves Akira. Akira is constantly accepting truth and when presented with the fact that demons are real, he adapts and uses this knowledge and new power to his advantage. I’m going to rewatch the anime and probably revise this because it’s been like 3 years since I’ve seen it.

what killed me inside the most, is how full of drive and life the characters were in the beginning, and as the show progressed, all hope and light slowly faded into gore and despair. all of their lives were taken in seconds and all they’ve strived for was for nothing. like the scene where akiras uncle finds his child as a demon, and he gets shot down to pieces after having a breakdown. or the scene of mikis death.

Devilman Crybaby is an anime masterpiece. It embodies everything a proper anime is supposed to be and turns it up to 100. The original Devilman movies it was based on were no less gritty but Crybaby gave the real heart that it eventually ripped right out. I think sometimes we need a good reminder of how truly lucky we are.

I was really touched by the ending all three times I've seen it; I do agree it's about the horrors of humanity but also about the dilema between humanity and nature (the devilmen vs the demons), also it's about hope thats why at least one group of humans could listen to Akira at then, and finally part of that hope is love to quote the very first line of the show "Love does not exist, there is no such thing as love, therefore there is no sorrow. Thats what I thought" words said by Satan himself once he understood why was he crying too

No, the protagonist fights against the inevitable nature that you talk about, so there's hope just in trying even if it means nothing at the end. It shows when Ryo shows love(sadness) at the end. So at the end we have evil in us but love too, and is just as strong as the evil inside of us, you have to choose.

Devilman is a story that always makes me feel sad and that’s what I LOVE about it.
It’s not a typical story about a character transforming into a monster to save the day, but a bleak story about how you can’t save the world from its inevitable destruction.
I should also mention, Go Nagi was inspired by the Vietnam War (that’s when the manga was first made) and how he feared it was the end of the world.

I kept crying around the ending, valuable loveable characters dying brutal deaths. The cruelty of both humanity and demons on both of their own races, the brutality of humans.
Humans are monsters both in reality and fiction, as you see in the show. The humans who are filled with fear and hatred killed countless innocent people.
    (Major spoilers)
they even killed Miki makimura and Miku they chopped their corpses into 5 pieces separating the head, torso, legs, and arms. They proceeded to dance Infront of miki's burning house as they paraded with her corpse on large skewers outside of her home. And the MC Akira was left there seeing the people he loved and only had left, in lifeless pieces being swung around as a trophy of Victory.

  • @the.voidbunny
    @the.voidbunny 2 года назад +16

    Well also at the end,
    (spoilers obviously)
Ryo cries for a Akura's death after he realized that he killed his only friend. And I think because of that when and if Humanity brings a new just maybe there's a glimmer of hope that the good people in this world might make an impact far greater than them.
I think it's about love and hate.
yeah the world sucks but there are cry babies who are just too dorky to see how much people suck.
And in a lot of ways I relate to Akura's a lot, I might be naive but at least I believe in people and make their day better.

I wouldn't necessarily say this is true. One of the core messages of the show is that, despite the inevitability of everything dying, we still care to preserve that which we've come to know and that's what makes existence meaningful to us. Our attachments define us. The lesson of attachment is a punishment that God repeatedly puts on Satin before restarting the world on him.

hmm sometimes you can let yourself feel things other than anger and disgust. the show deffo had a lot of emotions for me. But then again I let myself feel things and try to empathize with what's going on in the story. I remember a loooot of wholesome, feel-good scenes where you think ''ahhhh life is great, people are so nice sometimes'' and it all gets contrasted with some pretty horrible people living among the good ones. And in the final act the same thing happens but vice versa which makes it very poetic, you get most people being horrible and gruesome to everyone getting contrasted with some very wholesome, nice ones living among them. even if they are part demons.

There is a lot more meaning to be derived than simply the evils of humanity. The story is about human nature, including hatred and war, but also love and acceptance. No, i think the deep meaning of the story is that while outwardly it seems fudo failed, in his final moments, he reached ryo and gave Satan emotions, and while there may be no hope for the previous loops human race, on the next cycle, satan will be able to feel emotion and not go as far. The final episodes post credits scene was an earth with two moons, meaning the cycle has begun again, but with a twist

I disagree. Despite everything that happened to Akira, despite the horrors he witnessed, his heart was unchanged, he was human. It's not about how evil humanity, its abour how we have the capacity to be evil, but we can be better.

Literally finished this last night and I audibly said “what the fuck” like 5 times, super depressing, glad I watched it but once is enough. 10/10

Thought the ending was symbolic of devilman being able to retain his humanity. Ryo wanted to corrupt hi to prove that deep down all humans are evil and should join him. In the end, he wasn't able to corrupt the one he lived and was left dying alone in the apocalypse.

The only way I could handle the ending was to convince myself that it wasn't a loop, but a way for the devil to eventually redeem himself. A loop is just unfair to the humans.

That dark blue sky, Red water with that ending still fucks me up. I well just randomly think about it at times just like the berserk ending. Two of the best anime’s ever.

It's one of my favourite anime ever. I love the ending, idea of humans extinction and Ryo's character.
BUT. I recommend you all to read original manga.

Devilman crybaby is the world we’re living right now. The only difference is all the super powered demon battles happen in a spiritual space. There are still angels, demons, devil men and fallen angels. This is a war.

The moral is that not all devils are evil and not all angels are good. That was the moral. It's not a shojo anime, it never was. It's a psychological one, philosophical. That not all born into evil environment are evil and that good and self-rightous environment can also produce brutal individuals. You can't judge by the cover, you need to get to know someone.

anger and horror? If you watch till the end all of those will disappear...all those feelings there will be transformed to... sadness.....and than give yourself a time and quiet to come to soft calm. Now we learned something

I found the show with a hollow feeling but not in a negative way. Everything that happens is perfectly designed to be heartbreaking, including the ending, up until it sets in that God will teach Satan this same lesson with Akira over and over until one day, love will win over evil.

    Couldn't agree more!
The seed of evil is in human is far greater than the devil itself.. the disparities, discrimination humans had created for themselves will lead to doom of humanity. we will not be saved nor by god nor by devil nor any alienated being they have understood our behaviour, our thinking pattern, our greed.
