Asparagus is a perennial crop (sometimes it's even a biennial and you can get two harvests, both spring and fall) and will provide you with many years of food to come with just a little attention.
You don't have to do this. After all, no one is doing this for wild asparagus, but a little attention can be very helpful at keeping pests, like the asparagus beetle, away and ensuring bountiful crops.
