      Update the replacement thermostat went bad the gasket blew somehow. Just replaced with a new Hyundai/Kia thermostat. In the burp process after system started with heat showing circulation and topped off to what lloked about what you had. While it was. Still running it started boil and bubble over like a volcano. Wonser why. Any ideas? I shut it off topped it off and left to cool for the night today will rerun the process.

      Sorry to hear you are having problems. After the car cools down and you try again make sure you’re radiator cap is on tight. A few thoughts. Are your cooling fans kicking on? I wonder if your water pump is working? Also just wondering if your new thermostat is good. Do any of your coolant hoses seem to be blocked? The one that you can easily diagnose yourself is to see if the cooling fans are rotating. Other than that you may need to have it diagnosed but if those fans are turning I’m thinking it could be the water pump out of all those things. It would be good to know for sure so you don’t waste money by replacing things that you don’t need to replace. I hope things go well for you and please give us an update.

      @@PaulNaylor3 i had that question as well about water pump. No leaks or whine. And after the 1st 2 time the thermostat opened then i had heat so was assuming the pump worked since coolant circulated. And yes the fans come on probably a few seconds before the thermostat opened. I was watching live data on my phone. But that last time is bubbled over the temp got to 231.8 and no fan or thermostat triggered. Today the fan did come on twmps again rose to 231.8 trickled back down to 215 then rose again to 231.8 affer 20 minutes i just shut it off. Never went below 212 like yesterday after thermostat opened temp dropped to 190 accept the 1st time it dropped to 174 but thats because initial opening with low fluid. I may get the pump checked and computer checked. I have a recall ill let the dealer know about the cooling issue.

    Thank you so much for posting this video. The way you explained everything was well followed. I really enjoyed watching how the service was done. Aside from the service how would you rate the vehicles reliability for it's current milage? Has there been any major issues you've delt with? I recently purchased a 2018 Elantra with only 24K and would like to know what level of reliability I can expect from it considering I follow all maintenance schedules.

      You’re welcome! Wow, only 24k miles! That is great. My daughter purchased hers with 123,000 miles and now has 149,000. We have not had any problems. I check the oil level every thousand miles to make sure it’s not low. Although it doesn’t leak any oil I do have to add some oil between oil changes. With your low mileage you probably won’t have this problem. Here is a link to my other ELANTRA videos: ruclips.net/p/PL0pAqdmfaJaJ9nU4ZUHBgnXqrqEshJqz2&si=uTjFFAaE7t0-yLZo

    If anyone is interested there is an Asian vehicle blue antifreeze, Asian red and Asian green. They are all OAT formulas so maybe it’s just a dye that the manufacturers use to identify their particular product but try to stay with the formula used in your specific vehicle. Mixing different formulas of antifreeze is a recipe for trouble later on down the road as a sludge like mess will form. The Asian blue is typically for newer Honda and Nissan products. The Asian red is for Toyota and Asian green is Kia, Hyundai and Mazda. Go by the year and make of your vehicle to be sure.

    Wonderful video. 😊How has it been for you? I know mixing coolants will be totally fine, just wanted to check with you if you encountered any issue with mixing. Was this the first time you ever changed it out or was this your second time? Also, during the drain process, did it drain the reservoir as well?

    • @PaulNaylor3
      @PaulNaylor3  Месяц назад

      Thank you. Mixing the coolant isn’t recommended and wasn’t my plan; it just ended up that way due to me not being able to purchase more of the same kind. Both of the coolant fluids I used are compatible and meet the same quality standards so there have not been any problems and I don’t anticipate any. This coolant has been in there for 20,000 miles already. This is the first time I changed the coolant as my daughter had just purchased this as a used car and we didn’t know the maintenance history. I did not drain the coolant reservoir but if that’s something you’re able to do to get additional older coolant out of the system, then that’s always a plus.

    ? the type of fluid that you have is pre - mixed, meaning that you do not have to add distilled water? The Hyundai brand although vague states that a 50% mixture is recommended. I called the Hyundai Dealer, they concurred that water should be added. There should be clear notice on the container as to weather it is a concentrate verses a pre mixed product. Thank you for your very clear video, I used the Anti-freeze funnel kit. and remembered to turn the heater. Good job!

      It does say in the bottles! Canadian tire or any auto parts store will sell coolant that is both 100% pure coolant without water and they have the 50/50 mixes water to coolant also. Some people like adding the water themselves and getting more for the buck but if your unsure just buy 50/50 coolant mix by brands like Prestone and make sure it says for your car make or look for all car makes which they also sell

    Thanks for the video! Looking to do this on my "17 elantra soon. I noticed that the coolant level didn't change much in the funnel while you were waiting on the engine to warm up. I'm wondering if this can be done without the funnel (lord knows I have enough specialty tools that I've only used once). Maybe just fill it to the top, and monitor it until the cooling fans kick on a few times , adding as necessary. Thoughts?

    • @PaulNaylor3
      @PaulNaylor3  8 месяцев назад +2

      Yes, i’m sure you could do it without the funnel. The main advantage of the funnel is it allows air to escape so you get the level right. You would just want to monitor the fluid level the first few times you drive the car to let air escape from the system and possibly add a little bit to get the coolant back up to the fill line.

    One more question... I was reading some things online after you answered my last questions. It was talking about antifreeze and coolant. I do not know the difference between the two but it sounds like antifreeze is put in the car during the winter time. Since I've had this car I've never added anything to the coolant spot, which from what I just read I understand is the same exact white bucket I'm going to call it that has that low and full mark on it, the one that you put the antifreeze in in your video... That being said, I'm not sure exactly which one is in my car, meaning I'm not sure if it's coolant or antifreeze that is currently sitting at the low mark. So, first thing is first, do I need to know if it's coolant or antifreeze that's in there currently before adding anything? If not then I'm assuming that that means I can just go ahead and add antifreeze up to the full Mark like you said? I thought I read somewhere that you can't just put antifreeze in there without coolant already in there as well. I'm not sure if that's the case or not. So essentially I just don't want to mix the wrong fluids nor put them in the wrong spot. I think with my car and just like others that cap on top says coolant but it is the same exact spot for antifreeze is that right? Can I just add antifreeze up to the full Mark without knowing which one of the two liquids is already in there? ( Coolant or antifreeze)?
    I got a little bit confused after looking online after reading your answer when I saw things about coolant and antifreeze. Which then led me to wonder what's currently in there and whether or not if I can mix the two. I am somebody who knows absolutely nothing about cars but am learning :)

    • @PaulNaylor3
      @PaulNaylor3  Год назад +5

      Yes, there is another cap just to the left of the one I use in this video and it says “coolant” on the cap. It is for the plastic overflow reservoir. I’m not sure if it matters which one you use but when I am adding a lot after a flush, I always go straight into the radiator. The overflow is safer if you were just adding a little bit when the engine is hot because it’s not pressurized like the radiator.

    Stupid question here...I have the same exact car as your daughter, same color and interior whuch i thkught was funny considering I have a coule of questions pertaining to this. I am SO excited to see this video. I'm in the same predicament as your daughter where I need help. The last two mornings I noticed that after I turn on my car and try to let it warm up for 15 or 20 minutes, I go outside and notice that it's not blowing out warm air. I had no idea what that would mean so then I was asked to check my antifreeze level. This morning I looked at it and it's down to the "L" mark... Can I just add antifreeze without doing a flush like you did? My car has about 103k miles and I'm not sure if it's something that I'm supposed to do anyway, flushing it, when it gets to a certain amount of miles but if so please let me know. But, can I just add antifreeze? If so do I just pour some in the exact same white ish container where I see the full and low mark that holds the antifreeze? Or do I need to add it the way that you added it? I'm assuming that I would only need to add it the way that you added it if I'm doing a flush?!?!
    Lastly, if I just add more bc it's down to the low mark, can I add a different brand than what is in there like how you did? Also, considering that I did not do a flush or anything , I'm not sure exactly what type of antifreeze they used when just put in there before I got the car, I bought the car used.. but I'm assuming that they obviously used antifreeze for Asian lkke how you mentioned. So, would it be okay if I just buy basically the same thing that you got and add it to what's in there? Can I do that and would that be ok just topping it off to the full mark by pouring some in that white container where the " Low" and "Full" mark is displayed that holds the antifreeze?
    If you would not mind letting me know I would very much appreciate it. Thank you and also GREAT VIDEO!

    • @PaulNaylor3
      @PaulNaylor3  9 месяцев назад +1

      Not a stupid question. You do not need to do the flush right now. Just buy the antifreeze you mentioned in your comment that is safe for Asian vehicles which I believe is mainly aimed at safe for aluminum radiators, and just add until you get to the full line like you mentioned. Check your level after you drive for a few days to make sure it’s still above the low mark. If it’s in between the low and the high when you check it you do not need to add any until it gets back closer to the low mark.

      @@PaulNaylor3thank you! I have about 105 so I will do the drain. Last question. I have wheel ramps for my car not a jack. Is it OK to drain all the fluid on the ramp then start the car to reverse it off the ramp to refill? Just want to make sure it'll be OK with no coolant for a few second while I reverse off the ramp so that I can put new fluid in on level ground.

    • @PaulNaylor3
      @PaulNaylor3  9 месяцев назад +1

      I don’t know how much coolant is remaining after you drain so I can’t recommend starting it up before you fill. You know you can add at least what you take out so I would add a gallon while it’s on the ramp, start it & back off the ramp. Then you can get your level where you want.
