    Beautiful skating by Kseniya, and nicely filmed, as usual. I have finally figured out how to do this, after 18 months trying. Admittedly that includes long periods of lockdown with ice rinks closed. I couldn’t figure out how to get power, and my attempts to push sideways had the opposite effect, digging i to the ice and slowing me down. I now realise that the key is to do deep edges, and keep the hip in the correct position relative to the skating leg, so that balance is maintained. You have to ride those edges, so almost no energy is lost to friction, and only a small push is needed. It’s surprisingly easy, and I feel both proud of my achievement, and a bit thick as it took me so long. I’m 58, so even oldsters can learn to do this. Hope the IT degree is going well Oleg.

    I have to start to try harder to come up with different praises :) You guys are building up the best set of skating tutorials. I am very grateful for your effort. I stop what I am doing when I see these reminder emails come into my inbox, and watch and learn :)

      It makes a HUGE difference! I think it's the way you guys break things down. Usually tutorials just show you how, but they don't explain the "how" that's needed. I'm really just starting to understand how a blade and your weight on it factors into these elements. Your tutorials on this point are unique and very helpful! Please keep it up!

    I've been working on these starting from one push from a stand still and trying to build speed from there. Doing this really helped it to improve when a little more speed was added at the start.

      Yep, that's good thinking. It's important to be able to build speed rather than coasting on the speed you entered your power pulls with.

    could you suggest some off-ice exercises for learning how to press correctly to gain power?

    The pressure meter is very useful.

    The funny thing about this exercise is that it's actually easier backward than forward.

      Agreed ! The necessary "sitting" position is easier for me too when skating backwards.

      Yes it is, but you will need good backwards edge control.

    Love your tutorials! Do you have any advice for over 60 yrs. old? Advice on learning ALL your skating techniques and what do you suggest on padding/daily exercises etc.clothing as well. I live in Massachusetts. Who would be a great coach to start off and be patient with older individuals that like myself and are afraid of falling? I know there are hooks that you can be hooked up to while learning new techniques. Is there any camps during summer sessions or winter sessions for us (over 60 yrs. old) to learn and not be afraid of new steps without falling? I have taken skating lessons before in a "Learn to skate" program. But need to straighten parts of areas in my body before going on the ice. Ice skating is my love of life. Suggestions???? Jane

      I'm 55 and I wear body armour from Xion and G-Form. The Xion d30 shorts are very good.

    hm this one is difficult, my coach asked me to do this exercise, if i don't practice this she won't do spins or jumps with me :'D

      @@hellstoastt Nope. Most people find this drill very hard, and someone who comes along and says it’s easy is a smart arse. They do say noone likes a smart arse.

      @@hellstoastt I’ve been working on this for ages and I can go the length of the rink, but not to the standard of my coach who can start from a standstill. The secret is to learn to glide on deep edges, and once you can do that, use the ankle and knee to generate a gentle push. I had to learn to let the skate glide long enough before the push. It’s highly dependent on timing. Don’t use the hips or the balancing leg to generate power. Sorry if I’m telling you what you know. This is perhaps my favourite exercise. Someone who can learn to do this easily obviously already has advanced edge control.

    The intros are kinda pompous and conceited and self congratulatory. I'm not sure why your athletic history matters if you're doing an educational video. What matters more is the content and how you teach. What am I supposed to do, drop my jaw on the floor from how amazing you are and then fall on my ass on the ice because I can't learn from the material?
