    Your camera works great.
    All the youtubers with drones use their drones too much. 1/3rd their videos become drone footage set to annoying music.

      Fully agree with Denise. It is the content of the video which is important, does not have to be done using the latest camera technology.... as fat as drones go, they are often abused and people do not know how to make the good movies with them. And theworst is stupid music which often is there.... I wonder why !!!! Keep doing what you are doing, it is great and we love it !!!! Cheers from still frozen canada, Zoran

    I feel the strength of your channel is the authentic content and the way you talk about things. And that's not up to fancy cameras or drones. The strength of your channel is you and your family. Video quality is fine and so is the sound. They story is way more important then the tools you shoot it with. Keep up the good work. Been loving this channel nearly form its start.

    show scenic spots and travel content.
    Other than that, I believe people are just getting caught up in the hype.
    I agree, you and your family have and still are producing top quality videos
    and photos along with interesting content...!
    What more do we need...?
    Nothing, just keep your drive and love of what you're doing going and continue

    I live in Florida, USA and we have a grass here that is tough and grows like mad with small nodules on the roots which will sprout a new plant if you till the dirt. It's almost impossible to get rid of it. However, if you fence off a bit of land and let pigs loose on it in a few months it's beautifully tilled and the nut grass is GONE. The pigs will root 6 feet deep or more to get at the nodules.

    • @simeonandalex
      @simeonandalex  7 лет назад +3

      WOW. That is so awesome. We have couch grass here that is a horrible weed. The pigs do a good job on it though.

      Are you speaking of Zoysia grass...?

    • @bitsnpieces11
      @bitsnpieces11 7 лет назад +1

      It's a sedge. (Wikipedia) Definition of nut grass. : a perennial sedge (Cyperus rotundus) of wide distribution that has slender rootstocks bearing small edible tubers resembling nuts; also : a related sedge (C. esculentus) It resprouts rapidly and takes nutrients from the crops you are trying to grow. It will also overgrow other crops and shadow them so they don't grow well.

      Is couch grass also known as Bermuda grass?

    • @bitsnpieces11
      @bitsnpieces11 7 лет назад +1

      Carol: I don't believe so. But, I could be wrong, I believe Bermuda is more grass like rather than woody like. The nut grass seems to grow best on poor, well drained soils like sand that we have in Florida, USA.

    some calcium sulfate will help flocculate that hardpan clay nicely. It's also sold as gypsum. I use it here to break up hardened clay soils. Also, Dakon radishes will cut into the soil and make holes and supply food (rotting radish) for bacteria for breaking hard soils like that up as well. :cheer:

    Another great video, Simeon. Like several others who have commented here, I'm perfectly content with the way your videos look and sound. Frankly, I have little tolerance for lengthy "techy" discussions about this or that gizmo. When I subscribe to a homesteading channel, I'm looking for information on -- hold onto your hats -- homesteading! If I want info on cameras and drones and the like, I'll search out channels devoted to that. Of course, you are free to seek whatever funding you desire for whatever purpose you possess, and people are free to comment on whatever they like, be it cameras or cows. This is just my two cents on the matter. Thank you for the time and energy you invest in this marvelous channel!

    Hi Simeon, you wanted borders for your garden area. Look in your area for a saw mill. Go there and ask if they have any old rubber belting they want to get rid of. Cut it in half and roll it out where you need it. To commercial saw mills, that belting is garbage as they replace them quite often. For you it's a gold mine.

    Good video Simeon, the pigs look very happy to spend the day working the soil. As far as the quality of the videos is concerned I feel you are doing a fantastic job with the equipment you have. We watch your channel for many reasons other than fancy camera effects. The full time RUclips channels aren't also running a homestead. You don't need a drone Simeon. Your channel does not need that kind of stuff. Your videos have real content and do not need expensive gimmicks that will be out-dated in a few months. I only discovered your channel yesterday and have so far watched about 2 hours worth. I love it. Thank you. I hope the government do not let the mining company steal your land - this kind of thing is shameful and hastens our world towards its doom - I really believe that. I would like to get a bird's eye view from time to time and know the general layout of your homestead.
    Doesn't crowd funding take a bite out of the contributions? Is it bigger than the Patreon bite? You don't mention your Patreon account often. Maybe you could set aside a period during which Patreon contributions would go toward a drone.

    Simeon, viewers of live feeds on RUclips now can donate money to the channel. I think what you could maybe do is do a nice live feed farm tour...run it an hour or two and throughout run it as a fundraiser for new equipment to provide better content.
    Anyway, something to think about. The problem with crowdfunding is if you dont hit your goal, you may not get the money.

    Pigs make great plows, don't they. I have an area overgrown with black berries that is a horror each year to cut back. Want to get some pigs on it to get the roots. A drone would be a nice addition but I like your videos just fine without it. Hope it works out for you.

    Absolutely do crowdfunding. Your videos helps educate people about farmland, animals etc. My interest is raising chicken for eggs and gardening...

    Have you tried a bowl of beer for slugs? Copper works too, but slugs love beer. It will dissolve them.

    Yes get a better camera and microphone that you wear and drone ;-).
    I know you watch Wranglerstar, he covered the topic a while back. Sure go for crowdfunding and see how much you can get together. I certainly help. And also go for the Mavic Pro DJI drone. Great quality, small and dead easy to fly. It's around 11k SEK, so not really cheap, but great quality and ease of use. If you buy cheap you end up buying twice anyway.

    If you have time lapse capability, that would be great. You could observe both the pigs and chickens transforming your gardens and pastures. It would help with your own analysis as well as being entertaining for us "arm chair farmers" I would enjoy the drone footage. The DJI Phantom III Standard or pro have dropped in price dramatically and provides great quality video, and have most of the features of the newer models...a good value, worth looking in to.

    Your content is what makes the channel work. You do nice framing, good editing, nice music, and interesting topics. I don't know how you find the time to do it at all. I don't think there is anything wrong with a drone, but hopefully it wouldn't be so much more work, and complication, that it would take away from what you are doing so well. How much time do you end up putting into each video, in addition to the time we see on screen?

    • @simeonandalex
      @simeonandalex  7 лет назад +3

      The filming is the quickest and it is most of the time just me doing my normal work while my wife or the tripod films me. Editing, answering messages, emails and comments is what takes the most time. It takes about 4 hours a day for us to do youtube. We try to do less on Saturdays and nothing on Sundays.

    I will support a crowd funding for your drone. Such a drone would also be handy to check the cows and chickens when they are out on the pasture
    edit:
    I also think you should not be to bothered about the quality of the video's. That is just fine and you are not trying to create a cinematic masterpeace afterall. ;-)

    I really like your content the way it is. For me, it get old watching drone footage, how many times do I really want to watch the camera go above the trees...set to music...camera pan from a closeup of kids to up, up and away, following a car driving...I get tired of that.
    I just want good, honest work footage, diy footage. A bigger better camera is a heavier camera and or tripod. Your decision though.
    I love your videos

    I would love some drone footage of your homestead and would definitely give some $$$. People have no idea how much work it takes just to edit a video to the quality that you do, it may not be physical work but it takes time from you and your wife too get these videos up. As usual great video Simeon, now that it is spring you have a lot of work to do 👍
