      @@AdamWillea Just out of curiosity, do you do this as a hobby or as part of your role at FANUC?

      @@dts_user1389 Great question! You're the first to ask that :) This is just a personal hobby. By day, I am a FANUC employee, but my passion and excitement for robots has spilled into my spare time and I saw a need for more educational videos on RUclips so, here I am!

      @@AdamWillea Really? I thought more people would have been curious. haha.
      I appreciate your effort even more knowing that you're doing this from your own passion. I look forward to seeing your future videos. I'll hopefully be engaging more there :)

      @@dts_user1389 Thanks a bunch, I appreciate the support! I'm honestly just happy to read these comments and see that the videos are legitimately helping people. As long as I can help others in the robot world, I'll keep the videos coming.

    Hahaha! My first mistake as a robot programmer was to turn off controller while the maintenance guys were replacing the batteries (controller + robot encoders). I got 3 years old in that day, but I won lot of info about recovering the robot after this. Thank you again Adam for the video.

    It would be great if you could make a video on how to send string messages an AB PLC via Ethernet/IP.

    • @AdamWillea
      @AdamWillea  3 года назад +1

      Hi Andy! I certainly can do that, it is an absolute cake-walk if you have the FANUC "EDA" Option: Enhanced Data Access. It allows for realtime transmission of strings, position registers, numerical registers, alarms, system variables, robot position, and more.

    Quick question, when I took the training we got told to never use standard batteries. He said standard batteries run the risk of leaking battery acid and if we use Industrial batteries we avoid that risk. Was that just over cautiousness?

    Great information Adam...Are you a PLC guy as well ???

    • @AdamWillea
      @AdamWillea  3 года назад

      Thank you! And yes, sort of. I spent many years programming Allen Bradley PLC's of all models. Nowadays I rarely get to play with one as I'm pretty strictly the robot guy :) But there are some golden nuggets of PLC still in my memory somewhere.

    My older LR mate has the d cell batteries above joint one if my memory serves me correct.

    • @AdamWillea
      @AdamWillea  3 года назад

      There are definitely some variances based on age and model. Good news is - all are simple and only require standard off-the-shelf batteries!

    • @danstaifer2028
      @danstaifer2028 3 года назад +1

      @@AdamWillea And that's what I was going to say that standard batteries is huge. I have one robot manufacturer that requires four 3.6 volt lithium ion batteries soldered with a special connector in order to back up the encoders. Hundred bucks a pop gets pricey

    • @AdamWillea
      @AdamWillea  3 года назад +2

      @@danstaifer2028 Agreed. Several robot manufacturers specify highly custom lithium ion or proprietary branded batteries. At least with FANUC it is off-the-shelf any brand size C or size D batteries. Will never break the bank or stress you out ordering!
