Rapunzel and Eugene: Was kidnapped and lied to throughout her life while the other lost his entire home and birthright and became a orphan turned thief and both still turned out to be decent people
Cassandra: Managed to escape an abuser without knowing it and grew up to have a decent normal life with a loving father but after finding out her so called “mother” abandoned her she decided to turn evil and blamed Rapunzel for it even though she literally had no say or control in the matter and takes out her bitterness/anger onto everyone else, even the man who raised her

Cass feeling angry is justified since I can't tell someone who's mother abandoned them how to feel, BUT she's entirely wrong on how she took out her anger on everyone, especially Rapunzel. She literally got a loving father in place of an incredibly abusive mother, and never brings that up when thinking about the situation. Meanwhile Rapunzel was locked in a tower being abused by said mother. She's literally victim blaming her for being kidnapped as a baby and abused.

Like Cass could’ve just grabbed the moonstone to protect rapunzel since her being abandoned meant they’re sisters. That should have been the motivation instead of her blaming Rapunzel for what Gothel did. And maybe she could’ve slowly became a villain as she tried to control the moonstone while having good motives.

@@savannahhague4989 the funny THING is that they literally build to that motivation of her doing it to protect Rapunzel maybe. They build up that motivation and then just- they decide to throw it away for no particular reason
there's parts of season 2 that show just HOW MUCH they care about and value each other and then they're like "quick forget that we need Cass to hate her", they could have had their bond be the reason Cass takes the moonstone but nope, weird angst from... They really needed to have a moment in the villain arc where, after one betrayal/attack too many, even Rapunzel herself gives up on trying to help Cass, and seeing _that_ is what finally prompts Cass to realise her mistakes and try to atone for them.
As it is, Rapunzel just keeps her blind faith in Cass the whole time, and her eventual redemption is just treated as a straightforward case of Rapunzel being right while everyone else is wrong. But having Rapunzel doubt her own faith and trust, and _then_ seeing it finally rewarded with Cass' redemption, would have made it infinitely more hard-hitting and satisfying.

    • @StarViewer68

I have thought of what would be Rapunzel’s line that if Cass crossed it, that would have been it for Rapunzel. And I think that Eugene would be that “line.”
Cass and Eugene both tolerate each other for Rapunzel’s sake, so it wouldn’t be that much out of character for villain Cass to attack Eugene if he tried to apprehend her or just to send a message to Rapunzel. And in a twisted deja vu, Cass stabs Eugene with a dagger just like Mother Gothel did. Rapunzel’s mind flashes back to that horrible moment of Gothel nearly killing Eugene back in the tower. And as she looks at Cass, for a moment, she sees Gothel’s cruel face where Cass’s face would be.
Rapunzel cries out in anger with the intensity of her sundrop powers pushing Cass away from Eugene. Cass runs away to avoid any potential attacks from Rapunzel. But the only one Rapunzel cares about right now is her Eugene. As she sees Eugene’s wounds healing while singing her healing incantation, Rapunzel decides right then and there that she is done giving Cass any more second chances. To hurt the man she loves is the ultimate betrayal.

And got corrupted. And wiould make sense if she did it actually thinking she did the right thing , you have reasons to forgive her.
Also cass didnt care for gothel , not really, what she could do is having her being overprotective and have faith in rapunzel doubted, it would be an understandable reason. Or an , i saw you die or worsse when you do it, i cant, and f thats the only way, i take it. And there she gets driven mad by it. What I find to be especially funny is that according to series showrunner Chris Sonnenburg, Cassandra's betrayal, redemption, and connection to Gothel were all part of the original pitch for the series and had years of development. Varian, on the other hand, was conceptualized as a plot device to "get Rapunzel out of Season 1" and had only about one year of development.

There was a video that explains the difference between reaction motivated characters and action motivated characters.
Varian being a reaction character and cass being a action character.
A Action characters motive must be set up and they must never be treated as reaction characters this was always what they were about.
      (Goku)(Green Goblin)(Doom)(Silco)(Cass)
A reaction characters motive is constantly jumping around, irrational but all for one cause. They didn't plan for it.
      (Gohan)(Spiderman)(Fantastic 4)
      (Jinx)(Varian)
A Action character won't break their code. They'll find a loophole and that loophole will slowly push them to the edge. From there their main enemy is the loophole.
A Reaction character only breaks morals for the sake of love.
Cass did neither, varian did both.
She didn't find a loophole in her code, and she isn't fighting for love.

Exactly, they completely abandoned the other reasons Cass had enough of Rapunzel. Rapunzel never has to admit that maybe she can be condescending and oblivious to Cassandra's struggles and desires as her lady in waiting, she never has to think about the fact that technically she did kill the biological mother of her bestfriend, even if there wasn't a better option at the time. No, it's all about how Cass projects all her anger onto the fact that Gothel abandoned her for Rapunzel lol.
To be fair, I was not surprised since the writers also forgot about the reasons Varian got into his villain arc. He never gets a proper apology from Rapunzel for not trying to help him (yes, she couldn't do it during the snowstorm episode, but then you get a few episodes where nothing of note happens and she still doesn't search for Varian to hear him out) and King Frederic never has to acknowledge that he abandoned the people affected by the rocks to protect his daughter. I still like Rapunzel and obviously it's great for a character to have some flaws, but the narrative should also consistently treat them as flaws that demand self-reflection. What a letdown!

Cass’s motivation is barnacles also. “My mother loved you more than me and that’s your fault”. They frame it as if Cass and Rapunzel were sisters and Rapunzel got the good life as “mommy’s favorite” and not in the true light of her mom was a criminal who kidnapped Rapunzel and destroyed her life for 18 years and was perfectly content doing that until the end of time if she hadn’t been stopped by pure luck and happenstancce, while Cass got to actually have a childhood and a loving and supportive parent. Being upset about the situation is justified and even being upset at Rapunzel for like at least an episode or three could be a fair arc about her abandonment but basing the entire second half of the show and a whole manipulation and revenge arc on “mommy’s favorite” alone was weak

I don't know. I actually connect with Rapunzel a lot as someone who grew up incredibly sheltered and her behavior toward Cass actually makes sense to me. Growing up with not too many friends who would stick around, I often clung to those who would and if they left me high and dry, I'd live in denial until it was drilled in my head that things weren't going back to how they used to be. When you're sheltered and crave the companionship of friends outside of your family, you become unrealistically hopeful. At least, that's my experience.

That's a good point, we're also shown that Cassandra is the first close human friend she ever gets (unless you count Eugene, but it really is a more romantic connection there from the beginning). I think the real problem is that the narrative shows her as being in the right for it, not as that being a weakness bad people can exploit. It's okay to have boundaries and to let go of people who are just hurting you and that's a lesson everyone needs to hear, whether Cass eventually got redeemed or not.

This is such a underappreciated and insightful point about Rapunzel. This aspect about Rapunzel is one of the things that I personally find relatable about her. I wish they had explored this more about her. Also you are so right about how she clings to Cassandra. I am not proud of this but as someone who was also sheltered and was often in denial when close friends turned on me sometimes even when they weren't good for me and I would be better off if I just accepted them leaving my life, I get Rapunzel's desire to reconcile with Cassandra even as she treats her badly. So as annoying as it is to see Rapunzel pine for her lost friendship with Cassandra, looking at it from her isolated upbringing makes it seem...not BETTER, but more understandable.
I just wish the show had Rapunzel come to realize how incompatable her friendship with Cassandra had become and as much as she wanted Cass back in her life, she should not have put up with Cassandra's aggressive behavior. They kind of made Rapunzel a doormat in that regard. Rapunzel is someone who should have continued to grow past the codependent behaviors of survival she learned from living with Gothel as part of her chracter arc. I feel that the writers put Rapunzel into a sort of arrested development when it came her friendship with Cassandra that read uncomfortably like codependency by the end of the series. Understandable. But disappointing.

The biggest problem I have with Cassandra in season 3 is that they leaned too much of her being a villian to the point there you loose sympathy for her. I understand what the writers were trying to do with her character, they had build up the fact that Rapunzel has always overshadowed her and ignored her feelings (though unintentionally) and I can see how the reveal of her being Gothel's daughter and how the fact that her own mother chose Rapunzel over her would be the final straw
The problem I have is after she betrays Rapunzel she becomes a completely different character, not only does she actively try to harm Rapunzel and Corona's people, but she seems to actively enjoy doing so, we see her smiling on multiple occasions while she's trying to actively hurt others, it causes her whole apology at the end of the series to feel really phony, like she's only apologising because she got caught
With Verian not only did you understand where he was coming from, but when we see him again in season 3 he reveals just how much he regrets what he did and he actively tries to better himself, not only that he didn't actually want to hurt anyone, but he felt like he had no other choice in order to save his father. But while he gets arrested and is shun by a lot of the characters (including Rapunzel), Cassandra faces no consequences for her actions and is welcomed back with open arms despite causing a lot more harm to the characters then Verian ever did
'But what about Once a Handmaiden where Cass tries to be better' yes but in that same episode after Cass breaks free from the amber, she acts like Rapunzel is the bad guy in that situation, and takes over Carona, all the while smiling and acting like a kid in a candy store. She was willing to hurt innocent people and destroy their home and is basically throwing a temper tantrum all because Rapunzel didn't immediately forgive her and tried to find a way to protect her people (even though Cass tried to kill her and she should realised that by now) If it was instead that Cassandra was so shocked and distressed due to the thought of Rapunzel and the others being willing to kill her because of what she's done, that she looses control of her powers then it would've made a lot more sense
It doesn't feel like Cass is genuinely sorry for what she's done, it feels more like that she only apologies after she's lost the power of the moonstone and didn't want to end up in jail
I think this could've been fixed if they had more scenes where we see Cassandra feel remorseful for her actions and shorten her whole villain arc so we can see her actually try to make amends for what she did

'The biggest problem I have with Cassandra in season 3 is that they leaned too much of her being a villian to the point there you loose sympathy for her' THIS. I've been trying to find what it was about s3 Cass that didn't click with me for AGES and I think you just helped me find it. Even with the show repeating her motivations again and again it just didn't resonate with me and I couldn't sympathise with her. It made me lose all the conection I had with her character (And 1-2 season Cassandra is my second favorite after Varian) which wasn't helped by all the personality changes. And I think that's the second reason why it didn't work with me. It felt as if she made a 180 at the end of season 2 and her personality completly changed, there was a diffrent person being sold to me as Cassandra.
And just now when I'm writting this, another thing came to mind. I can't help but compare her arc with Varian's and there was one thing that hit me just now. Except for that one scene that introduces her backstory, we don't really see Cass heartbroken about Gothel or being second best which are her motivations. We only ever see her angry, and that's mostly because of Zhan Tiri messing with her emotions. Sure, you can just say it's because who she is as a character but I don't buy it. She doesn't show much emotion when others are around but we have plenty of scenes where she is on her own. I think even one scene where she breaks down over all the suffering she feels would have come a long way and could have solved the 'can't sympatise with her' problem. Going to Varian's arc which first made me think about this, we see him break down multiple times. He is angry in those scenes, sure, but he is also sad. And that sadness, that heartbreak which pushes characters to become villains in the first place, is what's missing in Cassandra's arc in my opinion. We only see her sadness before she turns and after that it's just gone.
TLDR; If the writers let Cassandra express heartbreak in something more than only anger, the whole arc would have felt less cheap and viewers wouldn't lose their sympathy to her character. Emotions help us connect with characters so when they are mellowed down to only anger and nothing more, we don't have anything to connect to.

It's gross to me that tangled as a movie is about recognizing signs of abuse and breaking away from those situations, but in the show Cass is abuses her power, is nasty/stupid, and even victim blames Rapunzel and we are supposed to root for them to be friends again. Like how does that make sense? Plus, she is not even that great of a friend. Cass is very toxic and that toxicity is never properly addressed because the writing reduces her redemption to Cass just being a manipulated victim which does not fit her actions. That's why I think it feels so bitter

I guess Disney didn’t like the idea of one of its princesses be shown as anything but a model of pure virtue and strength.

Your thoughts here so perfectly summarized how I felt (and still feel) about Cassandra's villain arc from when it first came out years ago. Cassandra's so-called motivations for betraying Rapunzel, terrorizing her former friends, and turning her back on the only home she's ever known felt so shallow and petty. And even after kidnapping Varian and putting everyone in danger in "Cassandra's Revenge," she still had the gall to act incredulous at being called the bad guy.
Still could've been fixed by that point, but the parts you mentioned in "A Tale of Two Sisters" - leaving Rapunzel to die from poisonous gas, and "Once A Handmaiden" - doing a full 180 after supposedly wanting to make amends minutes earlier -- made that impossible. They made Cass seem too evil or far gone for a redemption arc to be believable/deserved.
If they wanted it to actually feel deserved, than they should've had Cass come to her senses earlier and skipped those parts. Even being redeemed in the episode right before the finale would've been better - realizing that Zhan Tiri really was manipulating her the entire time AND promising to help Rapunzel stop her. But they waited until the last possible minute, so again, it didn't feel satisfying or deserved - it just felt rushed and UNdeserved.
I agree with so many of the other comments on here about how it could've been handled better - have her being mind controlled by Zhan Tiri, under the dark influence of the Moonstone, or finally coming to her senses after even Rapunzel gives up on her, etc.
To this day it still hurts a bit how much they butchered her character and villain arc in Season 3.

I didn’t mind so much that Rapunzel was so insistent on changing Cass, especially because there were things happening to make her believe a fallen friend could come back (Varian’s redemption), but I thought in the end she was going to be proven wrong. A big part of Cass’s complaint was that Rapunzel was the main character and got to make all of the decisions and get all of the attention, and Cass wanted the right to decide who she was for herself. Even if she made the wrong choice, I think she should’ve been allowed to make it. in the end, it feels like Rapunzel gets to decide who her friend is, instead of respecting her and accepting the(bad) decision that Cass made

  • @randomgeek95

Both Rapunzel & Cassandra are to blame. Ever since the beginning of their journey to the Dark Kingdom, Rapunzel had not only ignored Cassandra but also has been taking her for granted, even to the point of gaslighting her, especially after the Great Tree, claiming she didn't have a choice when she clearly did but choose the selfish route. So when Cass steals the moonstone, Rapunzel acts all innocent & wonders why Cass didn't tell her what she really felt, making it pretty clear that Rapunzel was a terrible friend to Cass. I mean, would you want to talk to someone after they treated you like crap & will continue to ignore you regardless of what you say?
As for Cass, I can understand her being angry for being abandoned by her own mother for someone else, but blaming that same person for it, even knowing that they had no say in the matter to begin with? Words cannot describe the stupidity of just typing that sentence. Also, Cass is well known not to fully trust someone until Cass gets to know them more or that person proves themselves, just as Eugene & Lance did. But this blue ghost girl comes out of nowhere, tells her about her mother & suddenly she proves to be trustworthy? Cass is many things, but she is NEVER that gullible!
Both of the girls' characters were destroyed in the 3rd season just to show that a Disney princess is NEVER wrong, which is pure bullshit. If the writers kicked out Cass learning about her mother & her stupid grudge against Rapunzel & just wrote her as a someone who got tired of being treated like trash so she seeks any means to put herself on top & show the world what she's truly capable of, then she would've been a great villain. Then Rapunzel would learn some humility & realize she's should've been a better friend to Cass & try to find a way to make it up to her. But hey, what do I know, right? Just some random fan who loves these characters but hates the writers for assassinating them just to make one of them look better than the other.

Here's the deal with the Moonstone's powers. Moonstone originally granted Rapunzel some of its power like indestructibility, black rock manipulation, and lunar energy emission to properly protect the sun drop so it can safely reunite with the moonstone again. However, the latter two were only temporary, and in season 2 afterward, Rapunzel no longer can control the rocks or make them explode as she did in season 1 as the rocks reunited with her and Rapunzel is now answering the call so they would not activate after she touches them. But she would preserve the hurt incantation which was strictly the power of the moonstone. Moonstone had the power to kill and destroy
It is explained by Zhan Tiri themselves that Rapunzel did in fact take some power of Moonstone stealing this power from Cassandra indirectly which was used as a manipulation tactic by Zhan Tiri. That's the reason why Cassandra doesn't get additional powers. She would have if Rapunzel didn't accidentally steal it. So Cassandra is stuck with controlling the rocks because the rocks always answer to the moonstone directly. She did however temporarily have the power to paralyse people and show them their biggest fear in that one episode when rocks turned red, but Cass never utilised this ability as she had no control over it. And while she could later on use it after she gained proper control, she most likely didn't want to use it as Rapunzel already defeated it before without Cass's knowledge on how exactly so Cass assumed it would not be as effective as her average control over the rocks.

Between Gothel and the Captain, I can see why Cassandra ended up with the emotional hang-ups that she did. Both Gothel and the Captain were "performance based" parents where they expected Cassandra to perform for them to an extent. The Captain is a person who stands on duty, and he expected Cassandra to perform the duty of someone who was taken in.
Cassandra makes a small comment to Eugene about what kind of father the Captain is as a father to her. And while describing all the ways he has raised her, and she says in addition to teaching her how to defend herself, he taught her how to take on responsibility and how to *EARN HER KEEP*...take a moment and think about that small bit of information right there. Cassandra, who felt like she had to perform acts of service to gain her mother's love when she still lived with Gothel, who abandoned her, felt like she had to "earn her keep" when the Captain took her in. In other words, "be useful to earn your right to stay." At least to Cassandra, who had a mother like Gothel, and I bet she thought that is what the captain was implying to. Now, I do not think the Captain actually meant it that way. I think what he meant by "earn your keep" is that he expected Cassandra to learn how to do things and be useful in a practical sense and have skills instead of being a lazy, pampered child. A hardworking nose to the grindstone, duty bound man like the captain would naturally expect any child he had taken under his care to be both industrious and hardworking. And he instilled that in Cassandra. But with what Cassandra had been through with Gothel, I think she needed something softer and more tender along with the duty bound upbringing she received from the captain so that she knew she had worth as a person beyond performing. Cassandra felt unimportant and dispensible because no one had ever treated her like she mattered intrinsically.
As much as the Captain loves Cassandra as his daughter, he stands on duty above all else. When the Captain confronts Cassandra after she takes the moonstone, he comes to her as the captain of the gaurd, not as her father. He engages with Cassandra as her military superior commanding a subordinate who has gone awol to surrender. It's not until Cassandra goes off on him that he briefly drops the Captain role and tries to reach out to her as a father before defaulting on captain mode, ordering her to surrender.
It's funny how both the king and the captain treat their daughters that mimic the treatment of them by their shared mother Gothel, which adds to their trauma inflicted by Gothel.

Pretty much how I felt about it. The build up with it was pretty good and smart (I will argue that it was better than Varian's since he didn't appear much so his decline into villainy was more sudden, plus Cassandra was given more than one reason to turn against Rapunzel), but they pushed it too far for the resolution to be Cass getting a slap on the wrist and leaving the kingdom. I mean Cassandra's Revenge was already pushing it with her risking everyone's life and threatening to kill Eugene, then carelessly attacking them all, but A Tale of Two Sisters was just awful. She almost kills Rapunzel there in cold blood and then Rapunzel just shrugs it off after Pascal saves her life... really? And then she has the audacity to act shocked that Corona prepared a weapon against her right after she attacked the guards just because her cover was blown lol. Not to mention she finds out that the ghost girl is THE Zhan Tiri and finds the missing shard from the memory in A Tale of Two Sisters... AND SHE STILL ALLIES WITH ZHAN TIRI AFTERWARDS. I'd say in general Cass is made to be pretty dumb and childish in the last season and you can only justify it as her being traumatized and angry to an extent, she was not like that before that point.
But anyway her "redemption" was sooo bad. She just gets her powers taken and only when she's stuck with Rapunzel she finally hears her out and admits she was wrong, wow. Nothing that was built up in the first 2 seasons comes up. Not her adoptive father's love for her and how she should appreciate him more than the mother that abandoned her. Not her understanding Rapunzel's struggles and how bad Gothel really was. Not her regretting how she treated her friends, especially Varian and Eugene, who says she's like a sister to him (probably to deter the shippers, but I'm not getting into that now lol). What makes her change her mind is the fact that she was defeated by a bigger villain, that's it! And to make matters worse, not only she gets no repercussions, she also gets a heroic sacrifice at the detriment of the other people. Think about it, who does anything to help Rapunzel against Zhan Tiri? It's not Eugene who leads the guards against the threat or the other people of Corona showing courage against Zhan Tiri, they get slapped around and that's it. No, it's Cassandra who gets the spotlight by helping Rapunzel defeat Zhan Tiri (how convenient the two of them were the only ones not hit by the Wither and Decay incantation) and then she gets to randomly die... and then Rapunzel specifically says she has to save Cass, nevermind the rest of Corona who is currently still dying because of magic unleashed by Cassandra's actions. I don't understand how they thought that was a satisfying way for the audience to end that villain arc.

I think that Captain Cassandra Gothel Frollo is The Real Biological Firstborn Daughter of Mother Gothel and Judge Claude Frollo, because Cassandra inherited the personality of her true biological mother called Mother Gothel, but she also inherited the appearance of her true biological father called Judge Claude Frollo, but unlike her true biological parents who are evil and powerful villains, Cassandra is a so serious, so sweet, so honest, so kind, so funny, so generous, so loyal, so selfless, so brave, so organized, so optimistic, so sensible, so adventurous, so empathetic, so competitive, so intelligent, so responsible, so loving and above all, so beautiful heroine since the day she was born, because Cassandra always wanted a kind and loving family from the day she was born, but her true biological parents never treated her very well, because as they are one of the most evil and most powerful villains in the entire world, Judge Claude Frollo and Mother Gothel was always using her as their servant for their own goals and Captain Cassandra has 8 biological younger sisters and 4 biological younger brothers called Claudius Gothel Frollo, Claudine Gothel Frollo, Claudia Gothel Frollo, Ginny Gothel Frollo, Molly Gothel Frollo, Marios Gothel Frollo, Gabe Gothel Frollo, Gina Gothel Frollo, Marcus Gothel Frollo, Gem Gothel Frollo, Gemini Gothel Frollo and Rubya Gothel Frollo, and I also knew that Mother Gothel and Judge Claude Frollo never loved their own Real Biological Firstborn Daughter Captain Cassandra, because even though Mother Gothel is the Real Biological Mother of Captain Cassandra Gothel Frollo and Judge Claude Frollo is the Real Biological Father of Captain Cassandra Gothel Frollo, they were using Princess Rapunzel and Quasimodo as their own children for their own goals, and I think that Quasimodo is the Real Biological Younger Twin Brother of Princess Rapunzel, the Real Biological Brother-in-law of Prince Flynn Rider, the Real Biological Younger Twin Son of King Frederick and Queen Arianna, the Real Biological Younger Twin Nephew of Princess Wilhelmina, the Future Younger Twin Nephew of Agent Lance Sterling, the Future Adoptive Cousin of Walter Beckett, the Future Adoptive Cousin-in-law of Princess Mirabel Madrigal, the Future Adoptive Brother-in-law of Varian, the Adoptive Younger Brother of Captain Cassandra Gothel Frollo, the Future Husband of Madellaine and the Future Adoptive Uncle of Opal and Jasper.

God yes Cass going back to the good side was so weak and caps off the arc in a bad way. She only did it because she lost her powers and the alternative was waiting around for the world to end. It's not a redemption if a character doesn't learn anything and doesn't actually give anything up to be good again. And I'm not going to count Cass dying for 30 seconds as a sacrifice because that seemed like an accident, not a choice Cass made to lose her life for the greater good.

As much as I love this show, I'm absolutely NOT showing this to my kids if I ever have any because Cassandra's dynamic with Rapunzel (really all of her major relationships) has WAY TOO MANY red flags that you could apply to an actual abusive relationship/battered partner situation that doesn't get resolved in a believable way.
I hate to say it, but whereas I can see the movie helping someone break away from a bad relationship (I should know; it helped me realize how toxic my relationship with my dad was and we've had no contact for almost six years since), I can unfortunately see this show teaching impressionable children to stay in that kind of situation because they'll eventually change if THEY work hard enough, even if they're being treated badly.

I love the fact that their relationship starts w/ Cass is just a handmade to Rapunzel, but then she's secretly connected to the guards in some way, she is the Decendant of Her best freinds biggest enemy, & then she's just completely brutal to her Princess who is her best freind. Also the whole Cass vs Eugene conflict was the best part of the show. Rapunzel is naive but only in the worst Sanarios. & you cannot tell me this show didn't have any inspiration for Hazbin Hotel cause Rapunzel & Charlie are pretty much the same person in comparison.

Something that I haven't really heard about when referring to the decline of the show bc of mooncass, (and I use that lightly, bc despite how bad it pisses me off s3 is still somehow my favorite LMAO) yes Cass being too villany, yes Raps being too forgiving, but the fact that some shows will be a victim of becoming TOO cartoony as time goes on. This happened with total drama too by season 5. I havent heard anyone talk about it tbh!
Like I remember one scene in the finale, Pascal straight up turning into the three brotherhood members ??
Varian making a interdemential portal, very gravity falls coded.
Many characters almost dying, falling off buildings but being fine.
    Raps going super sayan lmao.
Cass trying to kill Rapunzel sooooooo many times
Getting shrunk and stuck into that necklace in Day of the animals
The entire time they spent in the portal during the finale
Also some in s2 like them turning into birds😭 I KNOW its a cartoon but at some point theres a line yo be crossed(haha) uk what I mean
It just kind of sucks bc theres still so much serious-ness of the show and scenes that really punch you in the gut.

I personally think should have a Cass backstory episode instead of pascals dragon to give her more to be mad about than just my mother left me for you. Maybe she was interrogated on her mother's whereabouts when she was four. Maybe her adoptive dad was forced to neglect her as the king kept pushing for tighter and tighter security. Maybe she couldn't make friends because people were scared of her. Zahn Tiri and Owl would be pulling her back and forth between good and evil until Zahn Tiri says not even Rapunzel was a real friend, siting the incident at the tree and the way Rapunzel constantly undervalues Cass as evidence. Zahn Tiri would make Cass believe that no one ever cared for or valued her, so why should she care about them. Also the arc should've ended at Cassandra's revenge, either by Rapunzel getting through to Cass or Zahn Tiri taking the moonstone. (Preferably the latter) Rapunzel and Cass would then have an emotional talk in Cass's room in the next episode or they would go out to find the ingredients to cure the memory spell affecting Rapunzel's parents. Rapunzel realizes that she was a terrible friend not only to Cass, but to Varian as well. Rapunzel would also talk about how Gothel made her feel her whole life. Also Zahn Tiri should build an army with Lady Cane and her goons and perhaps the separatist of Saporia to attack Corona on the eclipse so Zahn Tiri can finally get the sun drop and betray everyone.

Cass is one of my favorite characters and I hate the last half of her moonstone arc!
I think that Raps wanted to believe that Cass wasn’t fully gone due to her being her first and closest friend. But I do think that it dosen’t make sense that Raps put Cass before anyone else or thing in her life. Raps dosen’t see how much harm Cass has done and it makes me mad. Also, the fact that she got off free?! She should have least spent some time in jail for all she did!

I think Cassandra's arc is awful. I don’t sympathize with her one bit. Cassandra was raised by a father who actually loves her while Rapunzel was kidnapped and held prisoner by an abusive narcissist for 18 years. Her villain arc wasn't nearly as deserved as Varian's, and her actions weren't even nearly as devastating. You can't get mad at someone for being kidnapped. She knew Gothel was a sociopath who abused Rapunzel and then acts like Rapunzel took everything from her.
Even worse, she does all these terrible things and gets shocked at the idea of being called the bad guy and that people defend themselves against her. She hates Rapunzel for something that’s not even her fault and screws over everyone who ever cared about her because her mommy didn’t love her. This whole villain arc just had me facepalming multiple times in a fit of "What the hell were they thinking?"
The writers seemed to be trying to create a complex character with deep emotional motivations, but it fell flat. Instead of showing Cassandra's struggle with her identity and feelings of betrayal in a way that was relatable or sympathetic, her actions came off as petty and spiteful. It felt like she was throwing a prolonged tantrum rather than experiencing a genuine conflict.
Moreover, her sudden shift to villainy felt forced and unearned. There was no gradual build-up to her turn; instead, it seemed to happen almost overnight. This lack of development made it hard to understand or empathize with her motivations. She wasn't wronged by Rapunzel; she was projecting her frustrations and insecurities onto someone who had no control over the circumstances of her birth or her kidnapping.
Cassandra's actions were not only out of character but also harmful to the narrative. They disrupted the flow of the story and detracted from the more compelling and organic arcs of other characters. Her quest for power and revenge lacked the emotional depth and resonance that make for a truly great villain. Instead, it came across as contrived and shallow.
Furthermore, the resolution of her arc was unsatisfying. After all the harm she caused and the betrayals she committed, her redemption felt rushed and undeserved. There was no real accountability or reckoning for her actions. It sent a problematic message about forgiveness and redemption, suggesting that even the gravest of wrongdoings can be easily forgiven without meaningful atonement.
In comparison, Varian's arc was a masterclass in character development. His descent into villainy was gradual and understandable, rooted in personal loss and desperation. His actions, though wrong, were driven by a relatable human emotion: the pain of losing a loved one and the desire to make things right. When Varian ultimately sought redemption, it felt earned because he had to confront his mistakes and genuinely work towards making amends.
Cassandra's arc could have been so much more. With better writing and more nuanced character development, she could have been a compelling and tragic figure. Instead, she ended up as a frustrating and unsympathetic character whose motivations and actions made little sense. It's a shame because the potential for a great story was there, but it was squandered by poor execution.

The moment where I really lost any sympathy for Cassandra was during Once a Handmaiden and Cassandra gets angry at Rapunzel for you knowing defending the kingdom from an active threat so Cassandra just starts destroying the place including actively trying to harm innocent civilians. Like when the civilians tried to run to the castle for safety and Cassandra actually stopped them, like how are we supposed to sympathize with that?

I don't know if anyone is going to agree with me or not on this, but when it comes to redemption stories about antagonistic or villainous characters, you need to both make them well intentioned extremists and take a concrete stance in your storyline to make it clear that a freudian excuse is NOT a justification for harming others even if they have a tragic backstory, otherwise you end up with a "Naruto" situation where characters like Orochimaru, Kabuto, Gaara, Sasuke, Nagato, Konan, Obito and Itachi all serial killers, sometimes of either children, infants or their own relatives either get off with a slap on the wrist, pull a heroic sacrifice or due to their popularity both in and out of universe get a "redemption arc" even though they are mass murderers. And if the character doesn't die they get punished not necessarily through the death sentence but the characters in question should at least endure a long incarceration in solitary confinement.

I just hope that in the movie of Shrek 5, once Disney buys DreamWorks, all The Official Disney Princes and all The Official Disney Princesses appear, especially the most important character in the movie of The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea, Melody, The Daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, with her best friends Zephyr, Tip, Dash, Kiera and Catalina, and besides, they will be the new main characters of the movie of Shrek 5 so that they help Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Dragon, Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws, Perrito, Dulcinea, The Three Diablos, Goldilocks, The Three Bears, Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany, King Artie, Princess Guinevere, The Children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle and Felicia, The Children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and The Others to defeat Rumpelstiltskin, Death, Drizella Tremaine, all The Official Villains of Disney and all The Official Villains of DreamWorks, as Queen Grimhilde, Lady and Melody, but actually, Melody is The First and Only that she is not a True Official Disney Princess, because Melody made her debut in the movie of The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea and it is also because she is The First and Only Daughter of an Official Disney Princess, but Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Dragon, Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws, Perrito, Dulcinea, The Three Diablos, Goldilocks, The Three Bears, Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany, King Artie, Princess Guinevere, The Children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle and Felicia, The Children of Donkey and Dragon: Death, all The Official Villains of Disney and all The Official Villains of DreamWorks, because Melody is The Daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, but also The Death of Queen Lillian, because since her husband named King Harold passed away in the movie of Shrek 3, she has felt heartbroken and that caused her own death in her Kingdom of Far Far Away, and all The Inhabitants of The Kingdom of Far Far Away are saddened by The Death of Queen Lillian, because now she is with her husband named King Harold in heaven, and now they have lost their queen, that means now The Kingdom of Far Far Away needs a new queen and King Artie said that his love interest, girlfriend, fiancée and former classmate from Worcestershire school called Princess Guinevere would be the one to be The New Queen of Far Far Away, so King Artie decided to return to his old school called Worcestershire along with Shrek, with his older cousin Princess Fiona, with Donkey, with Dragon, with Puss in Boots, with Kitty Cassandra, The Romance of Starboy and Princess Asha, The Romance of Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany and The Romance of King Artie and Princess Guinevere, because I think that Maui will be Queen Moana Waialiki's love interest, boyfriend and fiancé, while Hiccup Haddock will be Princess Merida's love interest and boyfriend, Princess Tiffany will be Prince Lancelot's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée and Princess Guinevere will be King Artie's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée, because Queen Moana Waialiki is going to fall in love with Maui, Princess Merida is going to fall in love Hiccup Haddock, Princess Tiffany is going to fall in love with Prince Lancelot and Princess Guinevere is going to fall in love with King Artie, but they don't know how to tell them their feelings towards them and neither how to win their hearts, because every time Queen Moana Waialiki gets too close to Maui when it comes to true love, she gets very nervous with him, while which in the case of Princess Merida is also the same, because whenever Princess Merida gets too close to Hiccup Haddock when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous with him, in the case of Princess Tiffany it is also the same, because whenever Princess Tiffany gets too close to Prince Lancelot when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, and in the case of Princess Guinevere too, because every time Princess Guinevere gets too close to King Artie when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, but luckily for them, Princess Fiona will help Queen Moana Waialiki to win The Heart of Maui, also Princess Merida to win The Heart of Hiccup Haddock, also Princess Tiffany to win The Heart of Prince Lancelot and also Princess Guinevere to win The Heart of King Artie, and I also want that Jack Frost will be Princess Elsa's love interest and boyfriend and Varian will be Cassandra's love interest and boyfriend, because Jack Frost leaves fall in love with comes to true love, he gets very nervous with her, but fortunately for they, Shrek will help Jack Frost to win The Heart of Princess Elsa and also Varian to win The Heart of Cassandra, except Melody, The Daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, because she doesn't need a love interest, but also The Rivalry of King Artie and Queen Anna because they both want to compete in a challenge to see who Far Far Away and Queen Anna wants to do the best for her Kingdom of Arendelle because now she is The New Queen of Arendelle, but at the end, King Artie and Queen Anna become best friends in the world, because at the end, they both learned from their mistakes that they have made since their challenge to compete to see who is the best ruler of a Kingdom, and that at the end, King Artie and Princess Guinevere see their first true love kiss and that they become a romantic couple, just like Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany, and also that at the end of the movie of Shrek 5, Shrek becomes The New Leader of The Official Disney Princes and Maui, Hiccup Haddock, Kristoff Bjorgman, Jack Frost, Varian, Jin, Connor, The Baker, Starboy, Mateo, Prince Desmond, Prince James, Prince Hugo, Prince Princess Tiffany and Princess Guinevere become The New Official Members of The Official Disney Princesses and that one day, Princess Tiffany will be The Wife of Prince Lancelot and that they have a I think the moment of Gothel abandoning Cassandra is even more messed up than we give it credit for.
Like... imagine you being a 4 year old child.
You are waiting for your parent to return. Being completely alone for hours, until it is already the middle of the night.
Then suddenly a group of unknown men burst into your home and start screaming.
You run to the door, just to see your parent (aka. the one who is supposed to protect you) on the other side of a river in front of a bridge.
You shout for them, but as a response they destroy the bridge - therefore you cannot reach them - and leave you alone with those unknown (and probably scary) men.
Then those strangers carry you away from the safety of your home and also the only place you have ever known.
Meanwhile you cannot stop crying because you do not know if you will ever see your parent again.
If I would have been in her situation, I would have been scared for my life.
    Before someone mentions it:
Yes, the Captain said he would not harm her (and thankfully he kept his word), but he was still a stranger to Cassandra at this point. There was not a reason for her to trust him, yet.

if cassandra wrote a r/aita post explaining everything from season 1 to season 3, the answer would be "print this out and show it to a therapist"
cassandra took out what should have been directed to gothel out on the victim. gothel hurt both cass and rapunzel but cass neglects the abuse gothel did to rapunzel in favor of her own emotional baggage. the one good thing about gothel abandoning cass is that at least gothel can't hurt her anymore and the captain of the guards was definitely a better parent than gothel. zhan tiri manipulating cass made cass dumber more than keeping her as a likeable character whose redemption we can root for while still being a villain. zhan tiri played her like a cheap kazoo rather than a fiddle and fiddles are hard to play. cass should not be that easy to manipulate but angsty backstory so here we are. i have not counted how many times cass and rapunzel argue "gothel abandoned me for you (even though she was horrible to us both but i'm more important here)" "she didn't love me! she only wanted my hair!" throughout season 3 and i don't want to rewatch that.

And to add on to what you said cass motivation for being a villain is horrible literally the worst motivation ever I mean the only reason cass hated repunzel in the first place is because she thought her mother loved repunzel more than her I mean even though that zan tiri manipulated her into thinking that still that’s no excuse for that motivation being horrible i mean come on cass you should’ve known that wasn’t true the moment you heard it cause surly you would’ve heard what happened to repunzel that she got kidnapped because of her magic glowing hair not because mother gothel loved her more or thought she was a cute baby she wanted her for her hair and cass should’ve known that but she just took zan tiris words to heart and that’s stupid I mean at least varien had a good reason to hate repunzel not just a good one a valid one his father accidentally got stuck in amber he went to find repunzel to help him she couldn’t at the time so she technically shooed him away and then never went to see if he was alright after everything with the storm and her parents were solved and then he snapped and went full on evil cause in his eyes repunzel made a promise and she broke it which makes variens villain arc soo good and so much better than cass I mean he had a great motivation and what does cass have “oh you were my mom’s favorite she always favored you over her actual daughter I’m going to kill you” blah blah it’s horrible I think what would’ve been a better story arc for cass is that her injured hand that she got burnt while trying to save repunzel got infected with some of zan tiris dark magic and eventually after a while it corrupted her and that’s what would make her steal the moonstone and you can still have little girl zan tiri with her to make sure she doesn’t remember who she really is and eventually after a few episodes she finally snaps out of whatever was over her and starts fighting back against the little girl zan tiri but after that you can have little girl zan tiri possess cass and use her to do all these horrible things like steal at the spire and eventually letting cass go and the events of the finale can go on as they were that would’ve made for a way better story arc then “my mother chose chose you over me I’ll destroy you for it blah blah” what I just said is way better then what they actually did and it would’ve made the reason cass never got any consequences for her actions a lot better cause in my version it wasn’t cass fault cause she got corrupted with dark magic and eventually possessed by zan tiri her actions even though still wrong are justified because it wasn’t actually her that would’ve been much better then what they actually did but that’s just me anyways in conclusion cass being a villain great they that with varien why not cass her motivation for being a villain horrible that’s why I will always love variens villain arc better than cass not just because variens my favorite character ok maybe a little but anyways his arc is better and that’s all I have to say❤❤❤

Out of all the episodes in season 3, the one that rubbed me the wrong way the most was "No Time Like the Past" because while it was good that Rapunzel still had faith in Cass and wanted to save her, Present Eugene was still very much in the right too, letting a toxic friend go who betrayed you.
Yes, you could argue that it was still pretty early into the season, and Cass hadn't really hurt anyone yet, but the episode tried to play off Eugene's point in the argument by having Rapunzel go back in time and teach Past Eugene that it is wrong to abandon a friend. Past Eugene leaving Lance to rot in prison is a COMPLETELY different situation to Cass stealing the moonstone and betraying Rapunzel.
I enjoyed season 3 a lot, but this villain arc for Cass really irritated me at some parts, and you pointed a lot of those problems out in this video. 😁👍

How I think the Moon Cass Arc could have been redeemed
    1. Have Zan Tiri tells Cass that since both Raps and her are "sisters" and that if one of them has both of them, she could die, but still wanting to outstand Rapunzel, she takes the Moonstone to protect her, and returns to Corona as like a savior of families since she can control the rocks now, but soon enough gets manipulated and later Brainwashed by Zan Tiri when she messes up, or still seen as inferior to Rapunzel. (slightly influenced by Hezureviews)
    2. Have Gothel have a backstory of trying to work with Zan Tiri in the past and accidently making a spell or cursed by somebody to be old, and so that's why she uses the Magic Golden Flower, becoming distant to her OG daughter and greedy in wanting to remain young again who she used to love/care about in the process. The Same thing can happen with Cass as she grows more distant from the main crew and more into the trap of Zan Tiri.
    3. Have it like number 2, but Gothel used to be young before being cursed to be old in some way before turning to Zan Tiri to learn how to become young again, eventually finding the MGF, and having her youthfulness back. At the cost of it, she gets old over and over again in the process, lashing out at her daughter either to get anger off her chest and use her as a scapegoat or she's angry because her daughter is still youthful and naive like she once was, making Cass more Heartbroken when she abandons her for Rapunzel, and Cass uses the same mechanism during the season 2 finale and season 3 onwards.

I would like to mention, it is said at one point that the Moonstone does cause damage to someone(can’t remember if it’s mental damage or not), which is why Eugene’s dad tries to destroy the stone. So if that is the cause, maybe the Moonstone messed with Cassandra’s mind to not only make her lose logical sense and see what she was doing was wrong, but it also made her enjoy reeking panic into Corona. So it would be Cassandra’s saltiness + Zhan Tiri + the Moonstone = Moonstone Cass. Honestly, the whole story could be so different if they had just gone with “Moonstone is making Cass crazy”. That way, her story line could make sense.
Imagine this, at the end of Season 2, we hear a small whisper in the background while the camera is facing Cass. Cassandra listens to the whispers telling her that she is meant for greatness and Rapunzel is always getting the glory, so why shouldn’t she? Eugene hears similar whispers, tempted but then looks at Rapunzel and remembers that to end every bad thing in Corona, Rapunzel has to do this, Eugene resists. Rapunzel doesn’t get the bad thoughts since she is the Sun Drop. Just as Rapunzel reaches for the Moonstone, Cassandra gives in to the thoughts of glory AND to Zhan Tiri’s wishes and grabs the Moonstone first. Everything goes as the story intended to go, Cass explaining the she is Gothel’s daughter and that basically she is salty without out right saying it. Cass escapes but Rapunzel still sees hope to return Cass to the good side. The story continues as the series is with a few minor changes. Every time we go to see what’s going on with Cass, not only do we see Zhan Tiri manipulating Cassandra, but we see how the Moonstone forbids her from seeing right or wrong. We hear whispers at the end of each episode. Encrypted instructions left for Cass by the Moonstone. But we also get to see often how the real Cass is trying to escape the hold of the stone. Moments where strands of her neon blue hair darkens back into black and Cass acts/sounds conflicted by what she is doing. Rapunzel continues to hold out hope for Cass. Loses it a bit at Eugene’s party and then, they end up in Gothel’s house, stuck underground. Just like in the episode, the girls seems to be getting along but Zhan Tiri sticks with her plan. The Moonstone, while wanting to go back with the Sun Drop, decides it likes the drama and plays along with ZT. Cass leaves Rapunzel for dead. But when Rapunzel wakes up, she doubts Cass completely and cries, thinking her best friend hates her, when we cut back to Cass, who realizes what she has done and tries to talk to Rapunzel, but when she gets there, she has left. Of course, in the cave, the Moonstone does break, giving Cass a little, but not by much, control back of herself. Not only that, she then finds out that Zhan Tiri tricked her and she goes to ask Rapunzel for forgiveness/help.

    • @Polydrama

By this point, however, Rapunzel has lost her faith in Cass completely(or at least, mostly) and when she find out Cass snuck her way in. Rapunzel(who would’ve agreed to the amber gun easily than in the original plot line) warns/orders Cassandra to leave. Cass, who is still mentally fighting off ZT and the stone, tried to explain to Rapunzel everything. From ZT to how the Moonstone was making her lose it to pleas of help. Rapunzel slowly begins to believe Cass, however ZT fires the amber gun at Cass, like in the original, and Cass feels really betrayed here. So, she gives in to the Moonstone. Everything else goes like in the original timeline. Rapunzel finds out she was right to hold out faith on Cass. Cass gives Rapunzel the tiny piece of the Moonstone. Blah, Blah, Blah. Only big difference is that Rapunzel does send Cass to prison, basically saying “sorry you had to go through that, but I do have to send you to prison because you were an accomplice to causing harm to Corona”. After a couple of years in prison, Cass decides it is best for her to leave Corona to become a better person and to find her own destiny. While Raps isn’t that thrilled(plus with her upcoming wedding), she decides she also has to let Cass chase her dreams. It only makes sense, since she knows that her chasing her dreams would make Cass happy. It worked out for Rapunzel, so she should her friend go.
And that’s how the series SHOULD have ended. I don’t know, it’s just opinion. I just really like storytelling and this seems to fix everything wrong with the season 3 of the series, or at least it does for me.

The entire concept of Cass being Gothel's daughter was insane to me. That selfish woman carrying a child to term? Please! At best, I can only believe Cass was some girl she kidnapped to enslave, much like Rapunzel herself.
Anyway, the way the writing started to sow this discontent into Cass's character that hadn't been shown before felt weird - just the story of when they met had me going "...why are these two people friends?" The entire concept fell super flat for me, and just got worse and worse until culminating in the Cass-sacrificed-herself-then-went-on-a-journey ending. I still like the show overall, but OOF. Not sure I could get through the last season again since both Cass and Rapunzel were insufferable idiots.

While I do see Cas as someone who has every right to be angry and fight back against how she was treated I also feel season 3 suffered from being cut short after being doomed I mean moved to Disney XD
For me her legit reasons are
Being overshadowed and under appreciated by Raps
Her adopted father lying to her about her past
How badly Raps was written making her so naive she acts more selfish than integral and never apologizes
How ungrateful Raps acts after all the times Cas puts her dream of following in her dad’s footsteps on hold to be there for Raps
While I do like Raps not giving up on her friend after the cave she should have shown more frustration and anger
In terms of episodes we needed one of the cut ones to give the backstory in the form of the blacksmith’s stories to show what happened in the past for Zantiri…then when we come to Caswalking through the empty castle show brief 5-10 second flashbacks showing Cas still has those memories and is actually fighting herself…Zantiri is pulling the strings and Cas was so close to talking to Raps but Zantiri made sure that effort failed
Adding this episode means all the backstory stuff from the finale can be removed and the time given to that insulting recap at the very end…instead of Finn rambling on about what everyone does we can actually WATCH IT HAPPEN…Lance adopting the girls…the king and queen deciding if they will keep ruling…Raps updating her book of paintings…and most importantly Cas helping with the rebuild…the way I see it she offers to help and Varian jumps on to help her…the reverse of the science fair…after this we can see her reconcile with her dad and face the king and queen to apologize…therebuild could be a montage that also shows the dark kingdom being rebuilt and revitalized
As for the other dropped episodes…probably using them to show Cas struggling as Zantiri keeps pushing…she already believes Raps hid that mirror but what if Cas found another one that showed what Rapunzel went through growing up?…start planting the seeds of doubt and give Cas a reason to struggle while giving Raps reasons to feel angry but still not want to give up on her friend
This could be one episode and the second could show Cas trying to go back but being stopped much sooner by Zantiri who continues to manipulate her…this would add some weight to her confronting Zantiri after finding the mirror shard…meanwhile part of that manipulation could be Cas seeing Raps letting off steam about Cas along with the citizens…again good buildup to that final confrontation
The finale really felt rushed and I think if we got to see more of Cas’ inner struggle the ending wouldn’t feel so hollow…her reason for turning her back is foggy if you don’t read between the lines and her redemption is just so sudden and forced…adding these episodes and taking that extra time would make the conversation during the finale feel earned while seeing her help rebuild the city along with Varian and then apologizing to everyone especially the king and queen would make her leaving to chase her own destiny more satisfying…especially if Raps makes her promise to return before too long

Cass really should of stayed dead , giving the fact she disappears on an adventure alone anyway , if she was given punishment, it would of probably been banishment life in prison, or the death sentence, remember Flynn Ryder was gonna be HANGED for what? Robbery, cass sacrificing herself to protect rap, knowing she’s a goner and that her actions are unforgivable, would do one last good action, going out on a good note

You are even safe to say they're going to be lesbian couples if Eugene and Rapunzel relationship weren't established in the movie. And Cass know how much Gothel gaslit and manipulated Rapunzel. She even saw how Rapunzel reacted in Rapunzel memory loss episode.
And it's been a year or so I watched the series. I just came across this video.

I mean the other problem is that if response doesn't come off dumb she comes off condescending to the point of Cassandra actually being right. Repenzel even has main character syndrome to the point of j trying to force her values on a city that vibes more with Cassandra and still struggles to accept that other people can be different from her after. Unclear if she's meant to be neurodivergent but best case scenario that's the kindest explanations i can possibly think of

I love redemption arcs. Reformed villains are usually amongst the most relatable characters to me. But Cassandra? No. She went to far and did reprehensible things without even the slightest sign of remorse. And all because Gothel is her biological mother?!
The key to creating a redeemable villain is balancing their villiany with their humanity. The show was so focused on Cassandra running around and acting like a sociopathic villain, that they failed to balance it with redeeming qualities that showed her humanity.
If the writers wanted to set up Cassandra for redemption so badly, than they should have started buildings up to it long before “Once A Handmaiden.” As far back as “Cassandra’s Revenge”, at least. Cassandra was gloating, preparing to rip the sundrop out of Rapunzel’s chest mere moments before Zhan Tiri grabbed the stones. And we’re supposed to believe that Cassandra all of a sudden had a change of heart? All because her power was stripped away? That is done of the worst writing I’ve ever seen.
As for Rapunzel slipping into the role of the unfettered, I usually find it very sweet when there’s a friend who sees the good in someone and constantly reaches out to help them. But when that person is fully intent (and taking pleasure) in causing you and your friends harm, then you need to take them seriously. It would have shown a great deal of maturity on Rapunzel’s part if she had had an arc about learning to accept Cassandra’s choices, and let her go. This would have shown us both that she (a) is willing to take threats to her kingdom seriously, even if it means going up against a friend, and (b) it would show that she’s learned to respect Cassandra as a person and is allowing her to make her own choices(even if they are not the ones that Rapunzel would personally want her to make).
Also, I find it infuriating that Rapunzel calls Varian, a 14 year old that lost his father and fell under horrific circumstances that he never chose, “emotionally unstable” and turns on him without hesitation, but Cassandra, who chose to betray her friends, kingdom and father, all for a mother that never loved her and a delusional idea of destiny, a friend and lost soul in need of saving.

It angers me so much what disney did to this fairy tale and its characters because of stupid, toxic, modern feminism! The original fairy tale is a romantic love story whether you like it or not! Its the story about how a girl managed to break free from her abusive adoptive mother through her love for her prince! In the original first version of the tale Petrosinella, she only wanted to leave the tower to be able to marry her prince and there is nothing wrong with that because in the original she wasnt some lost princess but just an ordinary girl, meaning that if she ran away alone she would have no place to go and no one to help her, she would have become homeless which would be a horrible fate for a girl in that time period. The story is actually very similar to Cinderella. The prince is therefore not just her true love but her passage to freedom. In that time period, a proposal from a prince would be equivalent to winning at the lottery. And because there were no real jobs or homes for unmarried women a marriage to a man would be the only way to even get out of an abusive home. And there is nothing wrong with her wanting to marry a prince! Marriage was certainly NOT a prison and it still isnt today!!!! And to top it all of, the way its described in petrosinella, she was just as hopelessly in love with the prince as he was with her, making their marriage even better! So marrying him would be like winning in the lottery and winning her dream guy at the same time! And they knew they had to be married soon and not wait years because no one back then would have allowed them to be truly together otherwise and also because it was just wrong! And if they were already so madly in love, why the hell would they want to wait before they could truly be together??? The writers of this garbage show and its fans fail to realize that times were different in this time period! You cant just complain about things not meeting their modern Standards when its set in the 1700s!!!! And I hate that they also had to turn Rapunzel into another fighting mary sue girlboss when she was already pretty feminist in the original tale petrosinella. She decided herself to let the prince enter her tower, decided to leave with him, made her own escaping plans and stopped the witch with her magic! Sounds pretty feminst to me! Modern feminists just dont see it only because she wanted a man! Well what the hell is wrong with that? Everybody wants true love, dont lie! They are just bitter that they cant catch a man themselves, thats why they complain about princesses marrying their true loves! Its just pathetic! And even though Basile wrote some horrible fairy tales (sun, moon and talia), his version of Rapunzel, called petrosinella is still the best version and also one of the most beautiful love Stories and disney completely ruined this centuries old fairy tale with this stupid show! I hate it!

Yet, I always saw the moments of when Cassandra would do evil things beyond no return and then Rapunzel forgives her to be very noble of Rapunzel.
Obviously, in real life never befriend your attempted murderers.😂😅
But, at least people can also forgive them or befriend them if what they did was on accident.
I just see this as just fiction and people just need to teach children not to act like that in real life.
Yet, I can’t deny it would have been better if it was very well written.😉😂😅

Side note: The dark kingdom was Eugene's birthplace right? Imagine they rewrote Eugene to take the moon stone because its his birth right or whatever. And he would have to leave Rapunzel and stay in the kingdom to protect her.
    THAT IS A WORTHY FANFIC!!

I like Cass’s vilkain arc but I don’t like Rapunzel’s reaction to it both during the arc and afterwards. It’s a bit frustrating and it would’ve been great if there was more tension and fight scenes between Cass and Raps during that arc besides the final battle.

I dislike it when people say Cassandra's arc starts at the end of season 2.
It actually starts in season 1 (if not the pilot movie), season 2 is just where it becomes more noticeable.
Personally I used to not really care about Cassandra's villain arc, believing it was just a copy of Varian's, but it grew on me after rewatching.
(Except for the mind control rock....why does that thing exist?! It's so dumb...)
I still prefer normal Cass, though.
    And for anyone who cares:
There exists another video explaining the arc of Cassandra in great length.
It's called " How to FAIL at Analysis | A Defense of Cassandra" and it's over 2 hours long.

It's really too bad that there is such an expectation for main characters to be mindless warmongers.
I hope it doesn't seem condescending, but this is such a terrible take. Not only she is actually right to do that in a pragmatic way as it would escalate the situation, but she knows Cassandra better than the audience which the creators think you are smart enough to figure out, it makes sense for Cassandra's reasons to seem silly: she wouldn't be the villain if they weren't and it's mostly repressed emotions of her particular life, no matter how obvious it is Gothel was an abuser, she still feels jealous Rapunzel is an adored princess her mother chose over her and when you actually pay attention (she even sings about it...), she's quick to anger troughout the show. Plus, you say Rapunzel should totally go and attack her because she poses a threat, but that's quite literally the reason Cassandra attacks Rapunzel in the first place. Don't say that Cassandra only thought so because even if as you said, Rapunzel was handed way more excuses to attack Cassandra, Cassandra believes it. How would Cassandra be so bad if she's the one acting how you want Rapunzel to? There's even the play of the show's very story where the guy says "who's the bad guy?" and they answer "it's complicated!", because they knew people wouldn't be mature enough to accept this positive story in this age and warn you. It's completely in your face and yet you miss it. You insulted yourself both by making this video and saying the creators insult your intelligence. It reminds me of when Aang in Avatar decides not to kill the villain and many people reacted with "he's so naive" when that's the only real victory and he would have proven him right otherwise, like when Raiden loses to Armstrong idea-wise in the game metal gear rising.
