    Thank you for your educational and helpful videos. I have had TMJ(D) for the last 4 years. I discovered almost right away that the pain and discomfort was much worse before and during my period...especially before. I do think that our bodies are much more sensitive at that time...could also have something to do with a mild swelling that happens in our bodies...water retention. So many of "TMJ" specialists are not aware of all this, so thank you for being so progressive. Having TMJ issues is such a frustrating thing.....and on top of it, insurance covers so little if anything. B

      My symptoms only ever get worse before my period and sometime during. I’m currently a day away from my cycle now, and feel like I have a bowling ball for a head! I also have pressure behind my eyes and for years could not understand why this was happening and no doctor or dentist seemed to know either. Thank you for this educational video! These exercises work really well for me too! :)
      Really pleased I’ve found you! 🫶

    Yes my period makes my clenching so much worse! It also increases neck tension and anxiety which makes it worse as well. The best thing I have found is not eating sugar, caffeine and alcohol. That keeps your hormones happier. I also ended up with fibromyalgia on top of tmjd which is also related to each other with hormones.

    Omg i just got my worst jaw lock ever and it’s my second day of period! Normally my jaw lock only lasts couple minutes but today it began in the morning after wake up until now it’s been the whole day. Until the evening I figured it won’t go away easily with massages like before anymore and the pain is getting worse so I came up here to look for some solutions. I’m so lucky to find some good methods on RUclips and especially videos by this brilliant lady! My jaw lock is getting better now after I tried her home remedies. Thanks very much! I’ll keep watching your content!

    Two months ago I woke up in the night with INTENSE vertigo. I got my period the next day. I went to an EMT doctor, and without even knowing my previous issues, he immediately diagnosed the issue as TMD. Last month I also got vertigo with my period. So it definitely causes my TMD symptoms to worsen. I have not spoken to my orthodontist about this yet.

    I am experiencing dizziness again during my period. But not all the months of my period. Esp when I turned 30. Now I am experiencing it again. Also my neck, I think the SCM, feels tight esp when I turned my head side to side. Thats why Im having a hard time sleeping on each side. I am currently under tmj treatment. This video helps me to understand more. Thank you so much!

    Every period symptoms increases rapidly. Ringing in ear, bite don't fit, mucus appears in left nostril where the jaw is aching and then the specific tooth feels infected again. Every time my eye starts to loose it's ability to change between night and day vision and sometimes it got a "blue filter". I've been through several doctors now here in Denmark. They all say it has nothing to do with my period. Your video's are the first explanation I've ever had. Got treated for my tooth four times now 😏

    Pain in general (and also TMJD pain and other symptoms) is gradually worse for me from about cycle day #21-28, peaking from 26-28, and the tapering off over days 1-3. I've learned to try to schedule any dental work outside of that time frame. That pattern has intensified each month over the last 2 years just prior to turning 50 and continues to do so a little more each month. I think that pattern also seems to coincide with the levels of the hormones you mentioned in the video. (The joint laxity of having hypermobile EDS greatly adds to the issue for sure.)
    This window of increased in pain and laxity during each cycle has started to become more apparent with my jaw now as well, and I’ve learned that I have to sleep on my back for the last 7-10 days of each cycle or the jaw moves too easily when sleeping on my side and it flares more TMJ-related pain and I tend to wake up with headaches, jaw pain, ear pain, etc.
    Since turning 50 I have started having hot flashes and irregular cycles, letting me know that menopause is right around the corner and estrogen has started to slowly decrease (and it seems that estrogen generally helps to stabilize the joints). My concern is will the TMJ-related issue worsen during or after menopause when estrogen really drops off, and how do folks deal with this? Is there a way to start strengthen the area now (without causing more tension in the muscles) that might actually have a good effect in a few years, or do most folks choose hormone replacement therapy, etc? I’d love to hear from those who have already crossed over into menopause and if they have found solutions for this, or what they wish they would have done sooner in knowing what they know now. I know it’s a big request in a RUclips comment, but hopefully someone has something to share. 🙏🏾
    Your videos have helped me so much, especially with learning how to release the muscles which has dramatically reduced pain and headaches, so thank you!! 💜

      So glad the videos have helped! Have you seen a tmj dentist? A TMJ orthotic will help to stabilize the joints.

      @@theTMJdoc thank you! That's next on my list to try. I've had so many crowns etc done that the mouth guard I had for clenching at night doesn't fit anymore, so I will see about an orthotic now that the bulk of dental work is done and hopefully that will help with stability. 💜

    Thank you. This is very helpful. Have you seen occurrences of TMJ after dental implant surgery? I was a clencher before during periods of stress but I’ve had ongoing pain for 18 months after my implant. Can’t help but think it is related. Have seen a physio and I’m hoping to transfer their support and your videos to manage it ongoing. Had a bad flare up this week and I think it’s because of my period.
    I wonder if having a baby and your hormones afterwards (just generally speaking, as having a baby changes so much if your body) has made my pms more intense and thus my jaw flaring up. Thank you again. It’s great to have a community and read the comments and feel less alone.

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  4 месяца назад

      Sorry you’re going through this. Yes I’ve seen TMJ flare ups after really any dental procedure - big or small. There’s usually an underlying issue that’s caused the muscles to compensate and that’s caused dysfunction in the joints and then the dental procedure is the straw that broke the camels back..

    • @louiseking6794
      @louiseking6794 4 месяца назад +1

      Do you know if an I’ll fitting crown (in place of the implant) could be a potential issue? I had a baby tooth extracted and a “normal size” tooth as a crown. I don’t know if it’s sending me crazy and causing the TMJ issues. I go my entire life without any issue other than clenching when stressed, but this just seems so out of the blue and so consistent!
      I also had the crown replaced and when it was out of my mouth my symptoms improved dramatically!
      I am really hopeful with your videos that I can self manage this, I think I need to have the crown revised though, that’s the first step. Thank you again!

    • @theTMJdoc

    I have severe endometriosis and PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) and this all started after endometriosis surgery in 2021. When my ovaries had cysts and these had to be removed. (the cysts, not my ovaries) but my ovaries have weakened a lot since then. A year later I was doagnosed with severe sleep apnea and a year later with PMDD.
    I believe endometriosis surgery worsened my tmjd A LOT! Also the pmdd. Yes my tmjd gets worse with age. Just like endometriosis and PMDD do.
    I know sleep apnea çan start because of hormonal imbalance. Since there is no other reason why I have it and why it's so severe. I'm not overweight, don't smoke.
    I believe hormones play a HUGE part for a lot of women with tmjd.
    It's getting worse fast. Thinking about trying oral contraception to see how my tmjd acts.

Hoping the cause is my period starting and it will get better after. Im still trying to learn all the symptoms. They have been changing. At fiest it was all lower jaw muscles and neck and ear. Now i have constant temple headaches, tension in the musclenon the side of my head, teeth and cheek huet and what feels like pain near my nose and sinuses but its not congestionnand my eye keeps twitching.
