I haven't done a state of the (watch) collection video for a while. This is a review (or overview) of my watch collection. There are actually more Seiko watches than Rolex watches, and the large majority are tool watches - plus a few quartz watches.
    Watches are:
    - Rolex Submariner 50th Anniversary Kermit 16610 LV - better than the Hunk!
    - Rolex Submariner No Date Sub 14060m
    - Rolex Explorer 14270
    - Grand Seiko SBGN001 9f quartz
    - CWC G10 W10
    - Casio G Shock DW5600
    - Plus a hand full of Seiko 5 watches

Cool, I think a you could use a chronograph, maybe something interdisciplinary but durable like the SUB 200 T.GRAPH from Doxa! I also have a 12 piece collection, think it is a great number as it allows you to keep a few pieces which you are not wearing frequently but have a lot of emotional value for you.

I dont remember you featuring the G-Shock, the gold Seiko 5 and the HMT, while the Mondaine and the CWC were only casually referenced in videos about project watches and EBay, i believe. What i remember the most was you freezing your bum off talking about your vintage Omega Seamaster. Its inspiring seeing your channel grow.
To date your Seikos, all you have to do is look at the first 2 number of the serial on the caseback. The first number is the year (i.e., 1 = 2001 or 2011), and the second number is the month of that year (0 = october, N = november, D = december). Hope this helps. Looking forward to more B&J videos!

It's refreshing to see and hear a no nonsense, no pretentious delivery to your passion for time pieces. You aren't a typical rolex boy - I've seen plenty of videos on RUclips where judgements are made to 'mainstream' and 'working class' people wearing rolexes, spoiling the exclusivity of them. You have a down to earth approach and I salute you for appreciating many other brands.
I have quite a few glycines and armand nicolets and adore the aesthetics of them despite them being seen as low quality, entry level watches. I can't be wrong, after all, you can't argue with preference!

The thing with an HMT is that legit, accurate HMTs are actually hard to find. I have one too, inherited it not that long ago. It's being serviced. I also wrote an article about it, which I think I shared with Adrian before. I think you should be lucky to own an authentic HMT in the first place, because they are rare, obscure, and you only get them either as "new - old - stock" or vintage.

Personally I have been putting them out around the house, kind of decoratively. It's kind evokes a memory or a story like a picture in a frame does for me, and I figured it's nice to see them through out the day. Though I suppose to people who don't know those stories will think I just leave watches around everywhere in the house...

Downsizing in number and general case size. I have three daughters and I want watches suitable to pass to them in the future but, being passionate about watches, I need to enjoy the collection first for a good few years before my girls get them. While a safety deposit box is cheaper than adding a floater on your home insurance, you have to remember that items in an SDB are not insured. While the risk of total loss from the bank burning down is quite low, I still prefer having my watches in my own safe and insured. My home insurance policy has enough jewellery coverage for our wedding rings, wife's odds and ends, and lesser expensive watches. Then I have a separate floater for my 116000 and 114060, both purchased in the last six months. I protect both watches for about $23/month; small price to pay for piece of mind!

I have watched over six of your videos within the past two days after discovering your channel. I really enjoyed your collection and thank you for sharing it with us! I also enjoyed your video on the Glasshüte vs Rolex, and if it were not for that video, I'd have never heard of that watchmaker! And I totally dig your philosophy in that video.
The ORIS 65 video was also refreshing! Even though I am an avid Tudor Watch fanboy, it is really refreshing learning about other watchmakers and the history separating each watchmaker! I have subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to learning as well as studying your previous content! Great work!

Love seeing your project watches, especially the final Seiko. I recently had my late dads Seiko Bell Matic refurbished by The Watch Guy based near Gloucester. It hadn’t run for 42 years, had a broken crystal and I now have a beautiful sun burst blue dial Bell Matic that works and runs... just need to find a vintage bracelet now... great video as always.. 👍🏼

Adrian; I'm really digging your videos, this one is so informal and laid back that it invites the viewer to just hang out as it we are in the same room. Your presentation is devoid of "aires" which is why I've subscribed many times. My own collection is rather, outside of a 1972, 5513, four line Submariner, pedestrian consisting of 8 other pieces, nothing fancy but they have meaning to me and total +/- $2K USD. As with most things in life sheer price in $$ volume is not as important than what you like and what makes you happy.

Did you determine your SKX date? As others have mentioned, first digit is production year (e.g., 7 = 1997, 2007, 2017) and second is month (1-10 = Jan-Oct, N = Nov, D = Dec). But, determining actual production years within the 20+ year range, easiest to pop the case back off and see if the rotor is marked as a 7s26A, B, or C variant. A was from 1996 to around 2005; B was about 2006 to approx 2010, and C was approx 2011 to end of run - the difference is in the balance regulator construction. Hopefully that helps!

For sure the Rolex "Killy" would not be nicknamed like that if more people knew Killy wore a 765CP Breitling for the Olympics. But Rolex is very good to make a sales pitch and that is what they are mostly good at :). You want a diver? Get a: Doxa, Favre Leuba, Certina DS, Eterna, Eberhard,... You want a motosport chrono? Get a: Hand wound autavia or the first 68'automatic or Zenith A386,... or whatever else from the smaller brands with V72. The best daytona there was had an ElPrimero anyway 🤣

To recognize the date of the skx you can see it in the caseback, theres some serial number which is the first letter is the year (ending year number) and the 2nd letter is the month 1-9 and October with 0, November with N and December with D.

Hi Adrian. The number on the back of the CWC or G1098 watch are as follows. W10 is the accounting section, for the watch. the next four numbers are the same in number form. the 99 is the country of origin 99=UK 01=USA they are available on the internet. The last 7 is the number of the item. in this case your watch. this is known as the NSN or Nato Stock Number. 7091 is the serial and the 06 is the year of manufacture. I have have quite a few over the years and my first was a manual.

What´s great about your collection and your take on them is that you are not at all a watch snob and have eBay project watches to Seikos, Grand Seiko and Rolexes. Great attitude for sure as I do have an eclectic collection of watches which may not have great pedigree, but which I personally like...like you, some I wear and others I keep as sentimental favorites.

Bought a 9F SBGN009 and had a similar lack of bonding experience. Bought a spring drive diver SBGA229, a hand wound dress piece SBKG005 and an automatic GMT SBGM221, all of which I love. Sold the 9F. I don’t like bracelets and usually wear my watches off the OEM bracelet when they come on a bracelet. I didn’t take the 9F off the bracelet. It was so easy to sell that I just let it go. I am inclined to consider a 9F sport piece with a solid dial and a blocky almost cushion case (can’t remember the reference) that comes on a strap to round out my Grand Seiko subcollection. I am not anti-quartz and indeed find virtue in quartz and I do not understand those who express venomous feelings about quartz.

The SKX is likely not magnetized, sometimes the balance spring gets snagged. Give it a good knock (against something soft or palm of your hand at the 9 o’clock side. I had the same issue where it was suddenly running 30 minutes fast per day. After getting it sorted, its been issue free for years.

So Seiko dating is pretty simple
1st: You need to know the years Seiko produced a movement’s Reference # (6309,7549,7S26,etc) usually shown as like this 7549-7009
2: Knowing the years of production of that reference ex: the 7549 movement was produced from 1978-1986/7 so there no over lapping of years 1-10
3: Look at the serial number of the watch. Usually 6 digits ex: 820921
Digit 1: Year if manufactuer for this example it would be 1978 since now 7549’s stopped production in 1986/7
Digit 2: Month if production, 2 meaning February, after October being 0, N is for November and D for December.

A refreshing change from a Hodinkee SOTC vid. I like the fact that you put stock in a watch's origins, or how and why you came to own it. That GS is unbelievable, accurate to 5s a year...wow; and it hits every minute on the track bang on, I'd keep it too. I have three watches, hardly a collection, and I love them all. Each has a story to them, each has different qualities, and each brings a smile to my face. Surely that is enough!

  • @mrdisco99

The first two digits of a Seiko serial number indicate the year and month. So 78 would be August 2017 (or 2007 or 1997 depending on the model).
The SKX007 was in production for 23 years, so the number for the year will be ambiguous. You can narrow it down by the condition or provenance (you know it's at least X years old), or by the version of the movement. The 7S26 version A was in production 1996-2006. Version B was 2006-2011 and version C was 2011-2019(?). I don't think the 7S26 movement is in production anymore after last year.

I like Grand Seiko, and even their quartz models, but the problem with that particular GS is the dial and hands don't match the case and bracelet. The dial belongs on a dress watch, but the bezel and all brushed bracelet belong on a field watch.
