Great to see someone doing this. Im a indigenous chef on the Menominee reservation. Wild rice is everything for us. Seans a great person, so are the other indigenous chefs ive met or spoke with. Very cool video.
I’m so glad to have found you through the Souix chef. I am going back to my native roots as well as my early years living in Japan. America has much to learn about our elders.
Thank you for sharing this recipe .
I’m from a indigenous tribe in California and using some of Sherman’s recipes from the Sioux chef’s indigenous kitchen cook book . Last night made his sunflower crusted fish recipe with salmon than the day before made his three sisters fall salad which is delicious . Tomorrow morning making his simple bison hash . Again thank you for sharing . Blessings to all
I searched for "wild rice pilaf recipe," this is perfect! 👌
I so appreciate the effort you are putting into this. Many Americans don't know that NA were seasoned farmers using elite methods of breeding and cultivation, so Mr. Sherman and his team are doing important work. This dish looks like a nice Thanksgiving side, and a fitting one for what the meal is supposed to represent. TFP : )
Chef Sean was a guest of mine at a dinner over a year ago. What a great individual with a tremendous amount of knowledge of food and culture as well as a fantastic lab/kitchen in Minneapolis.
Since Native Americans are the foundation of America, and many of our ancestors, it is really wonderful to see this cookbook. This Thanksgiving, after reading Robin Wall Kimmerer's book Braiding Sweetgrass I was inspired to find some Native American recipes and also read the Haudenosaunee Thanksgiving Address. Thank you for making this video! Now I want to get this cookbook. Yes REAL American recipes with a history.
Your videos are beautiful and interesting. THANK YOU for highlighting Native American cuisine this month, I have LOVED it!! BTW my fave is the Hope stew with corn cakes, it changed my life!!!
I just tried making this dish last weekend. Absolutely amazing, and even with 2 people, we had delicious leftovers for the next 2 days! Adding the maple syrup and smoked sea salt at the end really added the "umami". Thanks so much for sharing this video, and I can't wait to cook more from The Sioux Chef's cookbook!
Just ordered this book!
Thank you so much. I'm going to try this next year!
Thank you for such a lovely seasonal recipe! I really like pilaf and now I will put this recipe for my holiday menu - very excited! :)
This is such a cool video!! I’m definitely buying this book for myself and a few fam/friends for Xmas this year!!
Good morning , nice video 👍🏻
That looks so good. The clip you showed for ash cooking, is that from one of your videos?
It from her video called "Hopi stew with blue corn dumplings" :)

One pound of mushrooms seems like a lot compared to the amount of rice. Is this correct?
East Meets Kitchen thanks for your response!
Making for Thanksgiving
I'm an Enrolled member of the Lakota Sioux - WHAT KIND OF WILD RICE IS THAT ??????????? That's not what we use !!! We need to have a talk with Sherman
It looks like she used white rice with only a tiny bit of wild rice
Just a few remarks.natives didn't have vegetable oil.dat wasn't native onion.those where European mushroom and also the rice wasn't wild.😢😢 sorry.
