*Notes:* @9:43 - Some have pointed out this "rousing monsters" line likely refers to the prophecy of the two monsters appearing to save the world. The characters didn't know how it would be fulfilled and might have been leaving open the possibility that Caesar himself would have a hand in rousing whoever the other prophesied monster was (but as we know, it turned out to be Godzilla). @0:56 - Remember that it's not commented within the text of the film whether King Caesar is an artificial golem-like creature or a biological organism, so there's no true "canon" answer presented. These are conflicting interpretations published after the fact (and in the case of _Unleashed_ , referring to its own separate incarnation of the character). 7:40 How nice of Caesar-sensei to teach Godzilla the ancient technique of aimbotting.
Having lived in Okinawa, I have a certain sense of admiration for King Caesar, even if both his movie appearances are kind of underwhelming. I love the "shishi dog" statue aesthetic, particularly with his Showa incarnation. Part of me hopes that one day we'll see twin Caesar monsters appear together (the statues normally come in pairs, one with its mouth open and one with its mouth closed).
What I find fascinating is if the golem/artificial monster origin is the accurate one for Caesar, than it's quite possible the battle between Ceaser and Mechagodzilla is an "futuristic mecha" vs "ancient mecha"
This is awesome. I’ve always liked him, but I’ve learned to love him thanks to monster island buddies, and the amazing voice work done by his late voice actor: Ron.
The thing I found most interesting about King Caeser is that in Godzilla Unleashed, he's the only character that can use their grab attack on Biollante. His is the only one that works on the big girl.
I've always thought that King Caesar was an underrated kaiju. I really liked how he saw Godzilla being unable to take on Mechagodzilla directly and goes out of his way to actually help him even though he's never even seen Godzilla before. The cooperative teamwork between the 2 monsters made the final showdown a lot more memorable IMO especially when they started to overpower Mechagodzilla, but honestly, I think the battle would've even more excellent *IF* Anguirus managed to join in the fray for a highly climactic 3 against 1.
Me and my brother always loved the last battle scene of Mechagodzilla versus Godzilla, besides the awesome all out missiles, but with Godzilla holding and Ceaser charging! Didn't Godzilla vs. Kong feel very similar to it with kong being the substitution for King Caesar? We thought so,, that director is a big fan himself I believe.
15:37 According to the Galaxy Rescue Force Voice Drama, Many Gukuru Shisa use to live on many planets across the universe and acted as divine beasts until growing civilizations drove them into obscurity. It's safe to assume that the one that Airu encountered was more or less just another one of its kind that just happened upon her when she fled from her planet's destruction.
9:44 Koronuma mentioning King Shisa awakening other monsters is more a reference to the fact that the prophecy mentions that two monsters would save the world. At that point in the story, none of the characters thought that it would be Godzilla, seeing how that he had suffered pretty harsh injuries from his first encounter with Mechagodzilla. And given the fact that Japan has seen quite a slew of monsters since the 50s, it was a safe assumption that another, possibly more powerful monster would arrive to help King Shisa. Granted, the ability to awaken/summon other monsters as allies would be a pretty dope ability.
And we get to see it fully happen when King Ghidorah managed to utilize that ability himself in Godzilla King of the Monsters (2019) by gathering all of the hibernating Titans to have them be awaken by his Alpha call and had most of them under his commands.
Something I noticed on a rewatch... if you pay close attention, when caesar climbs out of the trench in the battle with Mecha G, you can see the actor's red pants through a split in the costume...
I had been waiting for this for a long time, King Caesar is a very underrated kaiju, and one of my favorites He also appears in Godzilla SP's post-credits scene, fighting Manda.
Loved this kaiju profile. Hope King Caesar gets a big screen return one day. If you guys get the chance, think you could do a video on the Trilopods (including Magita)?
King Caesar is a very interesting monster, a pity that is has not been considered for GMK since it would have been very good as a guardian monster in that movie
Holy cow! Where have you guys been! I've missed these Kaiju profile videos. Glad to see you all back in the saddle! Can we maybe expect to see a few more Gamera series Kaiju in light of the new series coming out? That would be awesome!
Monsterverse design idea for king Caesar King Caesar would have horns like a 🐏, and would almost have a build like monsterverse Godzilla. This design would also have tusks on his upper teeth set like the guardian lions from the 2021 MCU film, Shang chi and the legend of the 10 rings. So basically, this variation of king Caesar would be much likely inspired by the guardian lion statues of china. The abilities would not only be energy eye beams, but also when the sun shines on his forehead crystal even while underwater, king Caesar can charge up sun based punch attacks. King Caesar’s titan nickname would be Shisa
I feel like King Caesar doesn't get enough love. He's way more interesting when you think of him as an ancient man-made construct or a golem rather than a living organism, as we don't get enough of those types of kaiju
I'm starting to sense a theme with some of the Kaiju in the Showa era Godzilla movies; They're all guardians or deities of a sacred area or kingdom. Mothra is Guardian of Infant Island, Megalon is Guardian of Seatopia, Manda is Guardian of Mu, King Ceasar is Guardian of Okinawa, Varan is the Baradagi Mountain God, and Godzilla is King of the Monsters. Even outside of the Showa series, there's other monsters that become (or were planned to become) Guardians in later movies, like Ghidora and Baragon in GMK, Anguirus was planned to be in GMK with Varan, but both were scrapped. And there's the Titans from the Monsterverse, which can technically be seen as deities, some of which even sharing names with some deities.
I'll always have a special place in my heart for King Caesar, as my first ever exposure to Godzilla was the scenes of King Caesar and Godzilla teaming up against Mecha G
He’s a grappler. In fighting games grapplers are ALWAYS weak to zoning and ranged attacks. And in this situation, the zoning was HARDCORE. He teamed up with a fundamental fighter who had some zoning options but not enough to out zone the zoner who had anti zoning options, a command throw, and the best zoning around. They were fighting an uphill battle the entire time and honestly the only reason they managed to win was cause the humans snuck into the aliens base and gave the zoner a balance patch. Otherwise that was gonna be over and done with.
I've always adore King Ceaser he's my favorite Showa monster, with Battra as my favorite Heisei monster, and Godzilla 2000 my favorite Millenium monster.
As someone who has grown up in Okinawa, I can confidently say that there are indeed a lot of Shisa statues all over the island, I even have a mini statue myself before moving back to the US
I would argue that the video game doesn't necessarily reinforce the idea that he's artificial. Superman is often described as a living capacitor and solar battery absorbing and storing the Sun's energy. And he's not considered an artificial.
It always annoys me how people did and still do mock King Shisa by calling him a puppy or show dog, being so ignorant of the shisa and its lore. And how people always claim that he was so weak and did nothing in the movie when he had the upper hand for most of his solo match against Mechagodzilla until MG stopped using its beams and switched to missiles, and even then King Shisa inflicted the most damage on Mechagodzilla until Godzilla tore its head off.
Exactly. He's never fought a kaiju that could overwhelm him with an arsenal that he's never seen before. Even if Mechagodzilla tried to fly away King Caesar would possibly leap into the air to attack him given his impressive jumping capabilities.
Wikizilla watching this kaiju profile made me wonder are you guys going to make more King Kong kajiu profile like(tohos,Universal, and the original 1933)
Been waiting for this since episode one! I used to get mad when you guys made profiles on obscure characters and not king Caesar😭 I'm glad he finally got the love he deserved
I'm guessing if King Caesar returns in the MonsterVerse, he would be changed into a fully organic creature and is the inspiration for those guardian lion statues seen in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean architecture. Additionally, the Ancient Egyptians identified him as the warrior god Anhur.
Also, as a reference to him being described as being able to call/revive other kaiju, MonsterVerse King Caesar should also have an alpha roar (the explanation is that he has the potential to become an Alpha Titan).
In the Monsterverse, a prominent thing I say they reinvent with him is the thing that made him a joke in the first place: Pretty much begin his ass kicked despite being built up as this powerful force. Like say, he needs to get smacked around for the first good half of the fight in order to amp himself up
Well that's a heck of a way to find out Playmates is ceasing production... and I still haven't even found the Baragon smh. Great video; definitely hope King Caesar makes a return next year. I feel like he's one of the few Toho Kaiju that could support his own movie separate from Godzilla.
I'm gonna give an possibly unpopular opinion, I actually like the song that's used to wake him up. Caesar is also just a really cool creature in general.
Fun Fact, Gukulushisa was also reused and recoloured for another Ultraman advertisement to promote Tourism in Singapore! He was renamed as Merliger, a white and red guardian lion kaiju of the sea!

King Caesar is a great monster, he may be underrated but he is a great monster
Monsterverse design idea for king Caesar

Maybe even have someone ask “Caesar?” when they first hear the name “Shisa” said aloud.
So have same origin name as Godzilla-Gojira (American mispronounced it)
