- Hello and Welcome back to How To Game Differently! Today I have the honour of interviewing the legendary singer Johnny Gioeli, who is the lead singer for Crush 40, Hardline & Axel Rudi Pell. I have been listening to Crush 40 since I was a kid, so this was a dream come true for me.

This was an awesome interview. So much energy, and Johnny seems like a genuine guy who loves doing what he does. You can tell he doesn’t care about the fame and fortune, but rather just the passion of his content. Learning about the origins of Crush 40 was fascinating, and hearing the other bands he sings for was awesome since I never knew that! I’ll need to check out Hardline and their new album.
Johnny’s work with Crush 40 was a huge part of my childhood. Playing Sonic Adventure 2 and hearing Escape from the City was my jam heading to school in 8th grade, and when riding my Razor scooter down the steep hill I lived on back in the day. So many fantastic songs by Crush 40 in the Sonic games, and for that, I cannot say thank you enough for the sublime music, Johnny! Like James said, I can even say I did the same thing by just playing music from the Sonic Adventure game once unlocked and listen to it while hanging out in my room…that was until I found a CD copy of Sonic Adventure 2 in the store. Then that CD was on repeat for almost a year straight.
James, this interview was really fantastic man. Between this and your previous interview, I think this is definitely your calling for the channel! 👍

I grew up with crush 40 because I grew up with sonic and that's when I first got in to rock music, I remember probably 8 years ago, super smash brothers brawl had a music player page in the options menu and I would just jam out to crush 40 for hours at a time. I always wanted to get a physical crush 40 record on cd and get it signed by Johnny and Jun and display it in my room, that never happened, but, you know what, the memories and nostalgia to me is worth every bit of everything I could ever ask for. Even now, I look back on songs I used to listen to when I was a kid, I would either have the phone I shared with my brother and sister or my dad would have a cd in the cd player in the car and we'd be on our way to a run-down dirty gym that my dad's friend owned and he'd be working out with his buddies and we'd listen to all those good songs, crush 40, quiet riot, dokken, motley crue, steel panther, guns and roses, all of it, and it would just be a blast. We'd go home and watch our dragon ball dvd when we all slept in the same room, and we'd just go to sleep. I have to turn away from those memories to keep myself from crying sometimes, every day I think of those days and just wanna relive all of those memories, just to go back for one day, I would give the world. Point Being, I love Johnny's work and I want to thank him some day.
