One of my favourite conversations I've ever come across on RUclips. Thank you John, long time fan of your books and articles. And thank you Jeffrey, what a humble, happy and enthusiastic person with a great message. I've ordered the Flip and can't wait to get stuck in
Reading "Authors of the Impossible," and was curious as to what this guy is like. He does a *really* good job. I certainly would not get into levitation.
The Narcissism of man comes through more to me in Humans claiming Consciousness for itself or only to its relatives in the biological world, it's less Anthropocentric to speculate that Consciousness is in all and everywhere as fundamental to reality as we know or can know it.
It seems to me that if you write about the paranormal - not just about the social phenomenon of how paranormal activity is perceived, but evaluate the activity itself - you should have a straight answer to "do you believe humans can levitate?"
Can't go there - because people who have seen levitation or something like it understand it is possible, but the rest are saying "convince me" - and apart from levitating you (or himself in front of you) what is he going to do?
@@bethkeenan7889 I'm not saying he would need to reproduce proof of human levitation. I'd be satisfied with him just saying "yeah, I've seen it and believe it." I wouldn't be convinced it was possible, but that would be a straightforward answer to a simple question.
@@adampecsek I would never have been convinced, no matter what he said, if I hadn't experienced things that made it obvious it was possible. It would have been tiresome for him and tiresome for me. Impossible burden of proof. That he puts himself out there to the degree he does is amazing.
@@bethkeenan7889 I think Bob has a sharp instinct for this sort of thing and wouldn't have tried the audience's patience. The interviewee, however, might not have realized that and been a bit cagey.
If materialism destroys meaning, what is the meaning of existence that accompanies the notion that mind is fundamental? There is this assumption that the extinction of mind renders the existence of that mind as purposeless and meaningless. But what about mind that always exists, never beginning and never ending. Isn't that also purposeless and meaningless? Furthermore, isn't this a purposelessness and meaninglessness that is inescapable; trapped in the necessity of its own purposeless/meaningless existence? I think the fudamental philosophical question is not: "why is there something rather than nothing at all." The ultimate philosophical question is: "Is conscious existence good?" I would contend that it is not.
But you are applying a human acetate to your concept of consciousness. There is no guarantee that a human overlay applies to all to expansive states, and indeed, from most testimony in mystical experience it seems profoundly "a-human." I would agree with you that if such a consciousness could be "lonely" or be "subject to time" or "get bored" or "be aggrieved" or a number of other things, then its existence could be (intrinsically, from its own standpoint) perceived as meaningless, but I think this is unlikely, because it is coming from an overlay that is itself filled with bespoke concepts and limits, the human condition. Even a slightly altered consciousness, such as the dream state, is so radically dissimilar to the waking state, that I think this teleporting of overlays just doesn't work too well.
Re your thesis, pick whatever art you like, it's all equivalent. Yes, absolutely, taste is subjective, but there is more craft in a late quartet of Beethoven than in Nicki Minaj. QED So please don't neglect to mention that. On a personal note, I like my share of crap, but I don't make claims of craft for it.
I saw David Blaine levitate. I ran into him in the hallway of an building in Manhattan about twenty years ago and, being as skeptical then as yet I am, I asked him to do it. I still don't believe it, but I did see him do it.
If the entire universe is in some state of quantum entanglement, then taking ideas about the centrality of Mind seriously cant be a return to human centered universe. Everything is at the "center".

@ 50:36 - ME TOO!! Though sadly, right up to this day, I never got hold of a Microdot. : /

Why must there ALWAYS be a forced false dichotomy? Ugh!
