    Thanks for working hard to make these teaching videos engaging and funny. It's not easy to unpack Catholic teaching in an entertaining way. My favorite parts were Temperance with the bacon lol and the german atheist.

    Just last night I was frantically trying to pull together a last minute lesson plan after one of my catechists called in sick. One of the topics in the chapter needing to be covered: the virtues. My first thought was, "Wow, I wish Catholic Central had a virtues video. I could really use one right about now..." If only I had checked RUclips! I think this video was posted about an hour before I had had that thought - nuts! Thanks for anticipating my need. This is a great addition to the Catholic Central family of videos. I can't wait to incorporate it into my next virtues lesson plan. The kids always love your videos and they are just the right length. Thanks for all your work spreading the Word!

      Hi Valentina, thank you for your kind words. There are a lot of Bible's out there, so it is good to figure out what you need before buying. We like "The Catholic Study Bible", there are also other versions that are geared specifically for students in different age groups. We would suggest, however, that you make sure your Bible is a Catholic Bible, since there are some differences between a Catholic and Protestant Bible.

    Hi. Why is HONESTY not included as a cardinal virtue? The Bible tells us, "God is not a man that he should lie", and Jesus tells us that "Satan is the father of all lies" (John 8:44). So honesty is the personal attitude, a Holy Spirit of Truth, that joins us with God and separates us from Satan. Moses' ninth commandment is "thou shalt not bear false witness against thine neighbour". If we cancel out the double negative ("not bear false"), that translates to "thou shalt bear honest witness". Is it possible to be a Catholic without being honest? P.R.

    • @CatholicCentralVideos
      @CatholicCentralVideos  Год назад

      This is a good question! The not very satisfactory answer is that early Christian theologians took their cue on "virtue" from early philosophers like Aristotle and chose to stick to the classic foursome of Temperance, Prudence, Justice and Fortitude. But if we read, say, St Augustine, it's easy to see how honesty is implied: “Temperance is love giving itself entirely to that which is loved; fortitude is love readily bearing all things for the sake of the loved object; justice is love serving only the loved object, and therefore ruling rightly; prudence is love distinguishing with sagacity between what hinders it and what helps it.” A proper observance of these virtues would be impossible in the absence of a profound honesty toward that which is loved. Therefore, no, it is not possible to be a Catholic and fail to strive for the virtue of honesty!

    • @philliprobinson7724
      @philliprobinson7724 Год назад

      @@CatholicCentralVideos Hi C.C.. It was a rhetorical question, but thanks for your interesting answer. Yes, honesty is implied in any virtue because without the integral quality of truthfulness, falsity enters in and degrades the virtue. Think of on-line love scammers and clearly even love is subject to firstly being honest love. In the scammers' case, love is dishonesty's tool!
      To be perfectly honest, I don't see Augustine's "Justice as love serving only the loved object" as a satisfactory improvement over the Greek philosophers, because justice must serve all, not just one person. Slavery also serves only one object, so our definitions of love and justice need to differ greatly from that of slavery. Justice is a shared concept impossible without honesty. "The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me God". God's coming "Day of Judgement" will include honesty for all (the evidence), but certainly not love for all. (Any unforgiveable sins.)
      Jesus' words "Satan is the father of all lies", tell us by divine implication that "God is the author of all honesty". Is it time to shout this truth from the rooftops? Cheers, P.R.
