    You said it was important to use references, but I don’t know where to find references that are actually GOOD if that makes sense? By the way that’s amazing artwork, I want to draw like that someday

    • @VictorStaris
      @VictorStaris  2 года назад

      Hey Mariam! Thank you, glad you like it! I totally get you, internet is full with images and even simple photos are edited often times with weird hdr colors, and filters. I think I sometimes find images on flickr posted by users who travel a lot, some are really nice. Basically you should judge them the same way as you would a painting, look if everything is readable, find clear shapes and unedited values. I guess it also comes down to search terms too.

    Do you use reference photos to help you during your work? I love your digital paintings!!!!!

    • @VictorStaris
      @VictorStaris  2 года назад

      Hey C.B. Thanks for watching! Yes it is a really good habit to gather at least a few refs before starting to work. They can be quite different from the final result or composition, but could help with establishing the lighting, some colour refs, materials. Sometimes people might go overboard with the amount of refs, so try not to gather too many, get a few and one image as the main reference and it should work great.

    Why is it I feel more comfortable painting with non-screen tablet than screen-tablet. It does not make any sense because in real life, we also watch paper when we draw, we don't look at paper using 3rd party hardware ... @Victor Staris what do you think about it ?

    • @VictorStaris
      @VictorStaris  2 года назад +1

      Hey greed! Thanks for watching, yeah I totally get you. I started to learn digital painting without any traditional background, and for the longest time I was using a basic non screen tablet Wacom intuos 4. It is really more comfortable for some tasks especially photobashing when you don’t really need to draw accurate lines. I switched to Cintique because I wanted to improve my line drawing. But I still don’t like that I see my hand covering the screen, and that it has to move so much, in comparison to a simple tablet. So yeah it’s not strange at all that you prefer non screen tablet, the cintique really only benefits me if I want to draw accurate lines and gestures, for characters for example. Other then that the standard Wacom intuos works equally well.

    As much as I appreciate your art and skill, this was NOT a tutorial.
    -your description/instruction did not match what was occurring on screen
    -your instruction was from such a high top-down level as to be virtually philosophical rather than practical
    -the painting was clearly time-lapsed. If it took 30 minutes to create, what are the odds you can describe the process in 10 minutes?
    I would LOVE to watch an actual tutorial where you take the time to actually describe the process.
