    I even strop my utility knife blade with 16,000 grit diamond compound on a leather strop. I make knives, it's how I started leather and I learned the quickest way to a mirror finish was to use diamond compounds. Very much more aggressive than regular polishing compound. All my leather cutting tools have a mirror edge. I bought the Tandy "High Tech Splitter" on a Black Friday sale for only $100. I got it home and tried it out and it cut OK, but nothing over two inches wide as it was very hard to pull it through. I removed the blade and stropped it down to 12,000 grit and it cuts 3 1/2" wide with no problem. So now I can split my veg tan for some of my wallets, though I mostly use it for belts. For cutting leather as for carving wood a mirror edge is a necessity.
    Now for every day kitchen or utility you just need a working edge for most chores.

      Thanks for the comment! Yeah, nowadays I have a King whetstone 1000/6000 grit and then strop with a blue polishing compound, although I'm not sure of the polishing compound intensity 🤔 I've had much better results and a generally easier process when I sharpen and polish my blades on a regular basis. Who knew?! 🤦‍♂️ Thanks again! Maybe one of these days I'll check out the higher grit compound.

      @@legacybrandleather The one micron diamond compound in heavy concentration, 50%, is an easy to do strop on my swivel knife, about 6 strops per side every time I'm done using it brings it right back, same for skiving knife as well. The diamond works at least two times faster than polishing compound.

    Great piece of work. Can I just say the background music/track/noise was a little off-putting. Just my opinion, but I found it rather distracting; it had a lot going on: music, wind/waves, bleips, etc. Good video all around though. Thanks for taking the time to show us this!

      @legacybrandleather  4 года назад

      Thanks for the kind comment. Yeah, I'm not sure about District Leather Supply, but I know they generally sell out quickly when they restock. I end up having to look elsewhere for some of the things I need, unfortunately. Have you gone through Tannery Row for the Horween Leather? They don't always have what you're looking for, but just check in periodically to see what's available. Hope this helps. Cheers.

    • @legacybrandleather

      Here I was using a 100% cotton fabric I picked up from JoAnn during their Fall seasonal promotion that had gold dots as opposed to white. Thanks for asking.

    • @legacybrandleather

      In the video, I glued it just around the edges, however nowadays I'm using 3M Super77 and glueing the piece all over and leaving about .125" from the edge and the fabric additionally gets stitched. Hope this helps!

      @@legacybrandleather do you have any issues with the fabric stretching or coming loose at the fold center of the wallet? I have seen where some add the liner by pre-bending while installing the liner. I haven't made anything that is lined and checked for long term stability is the reason for the questions. I watch many others videos just to see their building techniques.

    • @invictusbp1prop143
      @invictusbp1prop143 7 месяцев назад

      I doubt you’ll see anyone making a video of themselves hand crafting any leather goods with synthetic leather. It some kind of chrome tanned, which is often used for wallets, bags, etc and has that supple shiny wax finish with a variety of colors as opposed to vegetable tanned leathers which are more often used in holsters and knife sheaths, etc. and usually is available in thicker less flexible and more of a raw natural product suited for dying.
