When my brother was 6 he went out on the back deck, tied a rope around his belly and then to the deck and jumped off trying to swing like spiderman. The rope slipped up around his neck with his arms caught above him. If my mom had not been coming around the back of the house at that very moment he would have hung himself. @@dsandoval9396 thank you so much for for typing out what I wanted to say but didn't have enough time lol..... But it's so true tho! I looked at so many comments but not one said something about the parents.
Only two of these were inspired by the movies. Fast did't invent drag racing. It didn't even make its first appearance in Lucas's 1973 American Graffiti. Drag racing has been a huge part of the American underground for years and years. A child climbs out of his window to go some place he was forbidden to go. That's never been done before Spider Man right? Students hanging onto cars while riding a skateboard or sliding on ice? That stunt has many names. In my childhood it was called hooky bobbing. If children and young adults were really that stupid, none of them wold have ever lived beyond the 1st Road Runner cartoon. The bigger danger is the social media challenges. This is where children and young adults get to watch people from their own age group doing stupid things and survive. If they can do it, so can I.
yeah for some reason every year SOMEBODY MAKES A CHALLENGE THAT HAS A CHANCE OIF KILLING YOU (ex: the tide pod challenge, the bird box challenge, etc etc)
hooky bobbing is called bumper shining where i am from and i agree peer pressure or just the idea to fit in is what the real issue is. parents get a lot of flack about not informing their children about safety but being a child so many years ago i did stupid things that could have lead me in situations as these. we just need to do our due diligence in life and look out for one another because not everyone knows the repercussions of their actions to either them or the people who love them
@@levmyshkin8366 You're right there. I was turned-off of that at an early age. My step father, a deputy sheriff, came home and bragged about what he was doing on the job. Two cars were drag racing on state street. One car got into an accident and ejected someone from the car. The body was the caught under another vehicle and dragged. They found the guy's nose on the railroad tracks and the trail wasn't something that could be hidden from the public. Sorry, it's a sickening story. I had nightmares for a couple of weeks. Thank god the marriage didn't last. That man was crazy.
I'm 50 and here is a short list of things we did as kids growing up in the 70s and 80s: Drag race, do stunts/tricks on skateboards, jump off high bridges into creeks, jump off buildings with home-made parachutes, "stunts" in shopping carts, get towed by vehicles while on bikes, skateboards and rollerblades/skates, "airsoft" with bb and pellet guns, snowball fights with ice-balls... we got hurt, parents beat our butts and grounded us, then, when healed up and no longer grounded, we'd go out and do the same crap, never blaming anyone but ourselves for our dumb-assery.
I see all these comments talking about these people being stupid and need to realize that these are movies. What you all don't understand is kids imaginations run wild. Even teenagers. In the example of Spider Man it's a way for them to feel free and live another life in a way. I know when I was a kid I used to act out being Wolverine cause I thought he was super cool. Rein-acting scenes like those make us feel like the heroes and make us feel in a way special as they are treated in the films.
Lol... that isnt a plausible excuse to risk your own life and the life OF OTHERS. I get that they what your saying but as human beings, common sense should come natural to us and this common sense that is benevolently given to us by evulotion should be used to discern whats Real and What is FICTIONAL. I'll understand if the people who commited these are 5 or something but most of people mentioned are teens and adults that should already have proper judgement. I am 15 currently and I know better than repeat their actions.
When I hear some of these I think “well frankly the fact they made to that age is a win”. No hate to the dead but come ...you can’t blame movies for stupid judgment.
I once tried to reenact a scene from a movie where a person lays down in the middle of the street during thick fog! I was 5-6 years old & VERY ignorant!!! I even have to admit how stupid I was for doing that! I almost got ran over, ALMOST.....
@@Jmagee2113 - I actually did lay down on the street for about 15 seconds, & almost got ran over by a van! Stupid is, as stupid does! Remember, I was only like 5-6 years old. And too this day, I feel like an idiot for doing that as a child.
Didn't think it possible kids could be dumber than they were in the 1980s. I was so wrong, the disconnect with reality is palpable with the current generation
most people have the common sense to not imitate movies (movies aren't real folks!) but for the kids who died, they were just a product of bad parenting... and you know I'm right since I doubt there is proof that any of their parents bothered explaining to them that movies are fake and shouldn't be imitated.
In the very first spiderman movie with Nicolas Hammton ( 1979 ) a young boy tryed to climb out of his bedroom window just like spiderman did in the movie but he fell to his death instead.
Fwiw, that skateboard trick was called skitching. And it’s shown in earlier films because dumb kids were doing it in the early skateboarding days. It started in the 70s. I know this because I was an early skater, and by the time gleaming the cube came out in 89 it was the early version of the dab. Hollywood catches up with a dumb fad way past when the people who innovate it realize it’s dumb and move on.
I'm glad to see everyone in the comments agreeing with this, but I wish other's would understand this as well. Every single death that was featured in this video is either the fault of the parents, or the victim itself. I love the matrix, that doesn't mean I'm going to attempt to dodge bullets.
For Back to the Future, I honestly thought you were gonna say someone tried to go 88 mph in a Delorean excepting to go back in time but they just crashed, or fell off a cliff or something.
What gets me about this whole thing.. It clearly shows how EXTREMELY naive people can be so heavily influenced by what they see on a TV screen. So much so, that they would risk even the insanely high chance of losing their own lives as a result. It’s not brave, it’s not smart, it doesn’t make you Harry Houdini.. It’s just plain stupid and those who’ve died as a result of trying to imitate and copy the things they see, should be a lesson to those even contemplating doing the same thing. It’s that old saying of “You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes”.
About the film "Into the Wild," there have been a bunch of people who've made the trek out to the bus where Chris died. And there have been several who've died in the same river he was trapped by. Seems like they would've been better examples for this video since it's only speculation that the one kid they reported on was imitating that movie. Edit: it's become such a problem many locals now refuse to give directions to tourists.
These deaths, as well as those trying to imitate McCandless' journey are tragic. State & federal resources near the bus site spent extensive saving or searching for people. Their poor decisions show that they don't really understand the facts about his death. McCandless tried to leave but couldn't leave because the small stream he used to reach his encampment was too deep for him to cross. They are romanticizing his sad & very painful death. The bus was airlifted from the site. It is now at The Museum Of The North.
being an experienced survivalist myself....I hated both the book and movie. I can't say why. the whole story just pissed me off. I do feel for the guys knowing that both of these were real people. but the story angered me. I have no idea why.
I used to live in riddle Oregon and i remember my dad talking about it and i tried living outside my house (i was 5 or 6 so i just did a little picnic and slept on my porch)
We used to snag trucks on our skateboards in the 80's before back to the future came out. We lived at the top of a big hill and when someone would come around the corner slowly by the store at the bottom we would hitch a ride to the top. It was a dead end road with a low speed limit so we never worried too much. Plus the drivers were always helpful as it was generally every kid in the neighborhood doing it including theirs so it became standard practice to slow down and look around to see if anyone needs lift to the top.
People talk about the new Joker movie being in fear of copycats while there are people who get themselfs killed, recreating scenes from other movies..... Wtf

Improper title. It really needed, "Idiots see movie and Darwin themselves right out of the gene pool thereby strengthening Earths genetics." And as tribute I dedicate AC DAC's "For Those About to Rock, We Salute You!" (I know, the title is shorter that's actually a line form the song)
That's unfair and this comes from an actor...We sell the idea of skills most of the time, but it's in special effects, editing, stunt doubles, etc that really make it seem like the impossible is possible.
No people will do stupid shit that gets you killed. If you do something with that possible outcome and die it's called natural selection. Idiots will kill themselves off

Honestly doesn't surprise me. Florida is a... unique place.
It is one of two states that have open police reports which is why you hear about them in the news all the time. Why don't we look at the parents.... Who let them watch these movies and not talk about how ITS A MOVIE NOT REAL LIFE! ALWAYS SHIFTING THE BLAME
They take the easy way out of parenting by letting society raise their kids and then when something tragic happens they blame everyone but themselves.
The only thing that really bothers me is when stupid people end up seriously hurting or killing innocent people, that's why when I hear of idiots killing themselves I find relief in it because I can only think of the people/families that they don't have a chance at hurting.
The video seems mostly coincidental, but the drag race one has more relevance, seeing as the young man had the race coming back after seeing the film.
hooky bobbing is called bumper shining where i am from and i agree peer pressure or just the idea to fit in is what the real issue is. parents get a lot of flack about not informing their children about safety but being a child so many years ago i did stupid things that could have lead me in situations as these. we just need to do our due diligence in life and look out for one another because not everyone knows the repercussions of their actions to either them or the people who love them
@@levmyshkin8366 You're right there. That man was crazy.

sad to hear about so many young people who can't correlate between real life and fiction
Amazing how many teens actually reach adulthood.
I once saw an animated movie and sprained my hand trying to make myself a drawing.
Skitching isn't from back to the Future it's something skaters have done since skateboarding started, shit just happens sometimes

Didn't think it possible kids could be dumber than they were in the 1980s. I was so wrong, the disconnect with reality is palpable with the current generation
For Amazing Spider-Man 2, I thought the narrator was going to say that suicide rates skyrocketed because of how bad it was.
most people have the common sense to not imitate movies (movies aren't real folks!)
but for the kids who died, they were just a product of bad parenting...
and you know I'm right since I doubt there is proof that any of their parents bothered explaining to them that movies are fake and shouldn't be imitated.
In the very first spiderman movie with Nicolas Hammton ( 1979 ) a young boy tryed to climb out of his bedroom window just like spiderman did in the movie but he fell to his death instead.
I consider all of it just good old fashioned,... NATURAL SELECTION!

So you are blaming movies for things that people do all the time?? Sounds more like families are just trying to find ways of coping....
I don't recall anything about blaming movies.....Just because people may re-create something, it doesn't mean it's being blamed....
Into the wild was a good movie and book I just read it this year and saw the movie as well
being an experienced survivalist myself....I hated both the book and movie.
I don't feel bad for the people who died but their families and friends
Every movie should come with a disclaimer "Listen this is not reality! Get it?"
