Your videos with the 205 bring back so many memories. Here is one...
It was a girl that we will call Morgane.
I knew Morgane when I was about 16 years old.
Morgane was three years older than me and she had just passed her driver's license.
She was my neighbor and her first car was ........................................ ......................................... a Peugeot 205 !!!
I saw and heard Morgane start her 205 often by chance.
The best times when I saw Morgane start her 205 it was not in the parking lot of her house, but in the parking lot of the Catholic church in my village.
Why ? Because Morgane was an assistant animator of cathechism which took place in a small house next to the church.
Morgane taught cathechism to small children also on Wednesday afternoon.
And of course she came with her 205 and she parked her car in the small parking lot of the church just below the window of the music room in which I was.
Once when I had just finished a lesson with a student,
I heard and saw by the window. Emma went out with three children to get out of the building where the catechism lessons were taking place and to go to the parking lot just below my window where Morgane‘ s 205 was parked.
It had been raining all afternoon and it was cold.
Morgane opened the door of her 205, tilted her seat forward and let the children sit in the back.
Once the children were well installed in the 205, Morgane straightened the driver's seat and she herself got into the car and closed the door.
She started by putting the key in the ignition, then she energetically shook the gear lever, to check the neutral position.
(I have always been fascinated by the way girls shake the gear lever, especially with carburetor cars, they do it with even more authority)
After briefly turning around to say something to the children Morgane returned to the front position with the steering wheel.
She turns the key the first time with her cute hand.
(Morgane 's hands were made for the 205. When her big right hand turned the key of the 205 to put it in life, it was a magnificent spectacle. She held the key tightly in her hand and twisted her hand strongly forward horizontally.
She turned the key in an authoritarian manner, almost a little arrogant, as if she wanted to dominate her 205)
So she gave the first keystroke.
Chouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiou vrrrpfffff .------------ the engine started slightly but died on Morgane immediately.
Morgane thought her 205 had started well and she was already looking back to reverse.
She did not immediately realize that her 205 was dead on her.
When she realized it, she repositioned herself in front of her steering wheel, and she shook the gear lever very long.
(on carburetor cars, when the engine stalled or had a failed start, the engine made the gear lever tremble just as the engine died. The girls were very careful to always check neutral)
She turns the key a second time energetically but very briefly to try to restart her 205.
    Chouiouiouiou --------------- nothing.
At that moment I saw on Morgane's face, that she had realized that her engine was about to flood.
I saw Morgane 's body sink into the seat and her right leg jerked forward. (that meant she put the gas pedal on the floor)
She turned a third time with a very resolute gesture (as if to say to the car, "go start car of shit")
    Chouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiourrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriouiouiouiouiouiouiourrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiouiourrrrrrrrrrrrrrpfffrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrpfffffffffffffffff ------------------ nothing.
For about a minute, sheheld the key WITHOUT releasing it.
With the engine struggling, she tried to start but he simply did not start.
Each time she released the key, she shook the gear lever.
Between attempts, she pumped, which did not help.
She would turn the key over, over and over, and over.
The 205 was flooded and no longer wanted to obey Morgane.
Morgane pretended that everything was fine. as if she was used to it.
i can assure you that Morgane did not take a break and that she did not stop insisting on the key.
After about five minutes of failed attempts, Morgane decided to keep the key forever.
Morgane held the key until the engine came to life. But as the engine was flooded he hesitated to come to life for good so she worked hard on the key and held it until she was sure the engine started for good.
Even if I didn't count, I think she held the key for about a minute and a 20 seconds.
Then she tried to get out of her parking space, but her 205 still stalled.
She had to restart it about 8 times.
During the last stall, Morgane understood that her engine was going to die on her again and again.
So she thinks she must be very upset, and she screams at full throttle 3 times.
    Vrouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum !!!!!!!!!!
    Vrouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum !!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Vrouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum !!!!!!
And then repeated small but very rapid thrusts of gas.Vroum, vroum, vroum, vroum, vroum, vroum, vroum, etc ......... for a good minute.
Then she released the throttle and the engine almost died on her again.
She plunged into her seat and put the gas pedal back on the floor for about 10 seconds.
    Vrouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then she didn't take the risk of releasing the gas again. She got on the road and left.
But what you need to know is that it happened to her every time the weather was wet.
Imagine the fights she had to fight !!!!!!!!
Morgane 's 205 was so stubborn
But at the time, many women had to fight with their cars in wet weather. These were situations that often happened.
Of course, one might think that Morgane 's 205 was poorly maintained.
But it was the case of all the cars of young girls who in the year 2006 bought old cars with poorly maintained carburetor as their first car for a very modest price.
I have seen this situation several times.

I will continue my stories too.
Good stubborn starts, in the evening with stalls, Like what happened to girls at the time.
So many girls were driving a 205! There have been! At the time, cold stalls.
The girls often had to turn the key to their 205!
Have you seen any girls in a 205? Do you have memories?

I will continue posting videos as and when I get them produced. 205’s were very popular with girls in the 80’s & 90’s. Many struggled with the cold and damp engines

My mum used to flood our Renault 5 every morning on the school run because she didn't know how to use the choke. My neighbour got it going and said ''Whatever you do leave the choke on and don't turn it off. It was fine once warmed up.

@@Manualchoke Cheers. When my mum was busy a friend of hers took us to school in a White Volvo 340 1.4 Limited Edition and that always started 1st time as it was kept in a heated garage. It did cut out if the choke was pushed in a bit too early but would start up straight away.

    • @Manualchoke
      @Manualchoke  Год назад +5

Having access to a garage definitely made cold starts easier. Unfortunately we didn’t have one so both cars sat outside. My dad had a Renault 19 which starts well most mornings. My mum had a Rover Metro, I’t wasn’t as easy but once going was fine although the 1st mile or two was usually quite chuggy until it was warmed up and the choke was mostly off. My 205 really doesn’t like when it’s cold. Can take a couple of tries on full choke to get going. After a min or two she will run with just a little choke but if you drive off she will splutter and stall so have to make sure you have the choke out about 1/2 way when moving off at junctions otherwise she will stall half way out of the junction unless it’s caught early enough. If you want to email me by address is on the channel.
