- In 2006, Alex Roy broke the coast-to-coast speed record in a 2000 BMW M5. Why did he choose it? Let Ice-T tell you why. Four out of five Cannonball record holders chose German sports sedans. Here's why:

It needs to be said how much more work and challenges alex had to beat the record than what's been recently done, and he also did it better in many ways
No, it doesn't.
Alex applied a genius level intellect and attention to detail for his run to tackle the record.
@@jonotwist lmfao
@@jonotwist couldnt have said it better man!
The new record setting run was of course less complicated than what Alex had to do, but Alex also had to do less than the record setter before him and so it will continue. But both (Ed and Arne) destroyed the record Alex set by a very big margin which has to be accepted and respected
I thought "ice-t narration" was some kind of joke, but I'm into it
Without looking at the title I started off like "this dude sounds like Ice-T"
The next Morgan Freeman
Initially I thought the same, but I remembered that he takes part in the Bull Run road rallies. You can see him and his car in the SuperSpeeders videos with Matt Farrah and Rob Ferretti.
I’ll save you the time ;
E39 will go down in history as a timeless masterpiece
Never looks old
I’ll take a pewter exterior with baseball glove leather inside please.
True, you can add the M3 e30 and e46 to that list.
@@jkbdk6723 , and the E32 Schnitzer.
"Looks like any other blue sedan"
BLASPHEMER!!!!
To the untrained eye.
That’s the. beauty of it. You wouldn’t look twice until it flies by you, I have one and it can keep up with supercars and haul a family
Ice T needs to narrate more stuff. Sounds awesome, like the beginning to one of his albums.
Aye!
He's like the David Attenborough of _______ 🤔
This was one of my first loves, a sedan, a powerful sedan with such a presence. As a kid playing with this car in NFS this was mind boggling
which nfs had this car? are you sure you're not talking about the M3?
@@ktonlai Need For Speed High Stakes
Oh yeah. The original NFS Hot Pursuit was the first for me. It was the first car I learned to play manual with as a kid!
I totally relate after owning an E39 M5 for about a year. Such an awesome car!
The fact that Doug and Arne beat Alex's record by more than three and a half hours is completely insane.
I remember reading about this guy and his E39 probably almost two decades ago in a magazine article. Thanks for posting this. The man is a legend.
I remember getting into internet arguments with Alex Roy back in the day.
AlphaAsFuark! Tell us the best one!
I saw Ice T narration, and knew this was going to be good content
E60, but rod bearings would spin in Missouri
And if it has an SMG, good luck.
Can Ice-T narrate more videos?
What wonderful kind of video did i just stumble across?!
Still waiting on the new APEX movie release here.
For f*cking real though right! If you find it before me PLEASE email me at cooperhumphreys@gmail.com
The movie will be released on 12/21 on iTunes.

@@TangentVector /Drive season 5 and 6 needs release too lol
@@whiskeyactual. It should be available on Amazon and Google Play around the same time.
The Grand Tour did a test of practical fast. They showed a car that had a small amount of horse power could beat a fast car through a city from A-B. On an open straight the conclusion is different. But in a city, you can only use a small amount of power practically. He was driving through a lot cities as well. This car is all you need really
This car is now in oklahoma. I just seen this exact car in person an hour ago and a guy told me the story about it. Absolutely crazy. But I love it!
Alex Roy, m5 144, narration by ice t, arrrgghhhhh so awesome I can't wait to watch!!! when will this be avail in aus
Yooo Ice-T thats legendary!!!
Thanks Ice-T
My favorite bmw of all time
I remember when I saw Alex at the airport years ago in El Salvador I already knew about him but not in my craziest dreams would I have ever thought he was coming to film the racing scene here. As I was leaving for a month he arrived the timing was awful probably I would have help him showing him the country not just the capital. Such Is life.
My dad's '00 Black E39 M5, with 42k miles will be going up on BAT. If interested. Can't wait to watch the movie.
Wow, yeh, those antennae are really stealth. Police won't notice a thing. ;-)
this vid is 13 years late . But can he afford to beat the record now though ?
This something straight out of an action movie.
Record has already been broken; all hail the Mexican Stig.
i own a BMW M5 and i am soo inlove with it and how it looks and drives so this video is a win.
can't wait to see that one!
Who has the 5 speed stock everything no radar record?
Ice-T?!? Awesome
If ice-t was narrating anything I'd prolly watch it lmao
Will this be on the Kaleidescape Movie store?
I came for the E39. I stayed for the T
Alex Roy is a BEAST.
He's like Matty Farah on steroids!
rawr
Anyone know the name of the song? Been searching and cant find it anywhere
A true legend
Good morning, Detective Tutuola.
The E39 is the most beautiful 5er Bimmer of all time.
Is this guy who did the voiceover for The Other Guys?
Ice T was the narrator? I could have sworn it was Ritchie Benoit of Rich Rebuilds channel here on RUclips! My first thought was why is HE specifically voicing this piece on a gasoline car, not an EV???
Clicked only because of Ice T 🤣
The Best M5-series for me :))) that car has a soul... :))
Alex Roy with his E39 is still the best in my eyes at least.
I feel like a high powered Diesel would be great for this. For example the new E400D. It should be super efficent at high speeds. You could cruise at 155mph for hours.
Apps don’t solve the cop issue. Like the latest Cannonball contestants have said they had spotters in vehicles for every 100 mile zone, which made it much more successful and faster to go through.
Besides radio scanning is getting useless more and more. Today police communication is digitally encrypted almost in every state
So hard to see an E39 M5 have holes drilled into it for aerials and cameras... it’s sacrilege.
Awesome so excited to see this!
what do you guys mean you've been waiting for it... they played it on tv already
Not everyone tunes into nbc sports for cannonballing content. I couldnt find it when I looked the night it aired either
Question remains. Why did he choose it?
No idea!
why only 16 gallons? Wouldnt it be better to have like 50 gallons or something?
So the car would maybe get 7mpg at full tilt, and there's a 16 gallon tank?
I keep waiting for vinwiki music to start playing...
E39 is still Sexy as hell!. Gotta love E39.
Water T
Any Bimmer fan knows an M5 when they see one
i heard this record was broken recently by a Merc?? if so, i hope Alex goes back to claim the title
Who was that kid from New Jersey I wonder... 🤔
Should have started the video with a law and order dun dun
👋🏾 Ice T
"Talk shit, get shot!"
Lol I thought I was trippin when I heard Ice T. How did y'all afford to hire him?
Who's Alex???
Why such a small gas tank?
Man for such a low mile M5 the body work on that one is horrible.
Wise choice. I got two of them.
did ice-t actually narrate this?
It doesn't matter if you're doing 140 in a Ferrari,BMW or a civic the cops are pulling you over
But the cannonball record was broken with a Merc
The best BMW ever....The ///M5
Somehow, this seems weird given the stories told at VIN Wiki.....as if Alex Roy was behind this video because he needs to feel better about himself. Idk maybe I'm wrong, just seemed weird.
The Apex video is ~10 years overdue, due to circumstances beyond Alex's control. So many people wouldn't be saying "who 'dat?" If it had come out on time along side his excellent book.
@@MarkHudson2 yeah the stuff about better technology, apps, etc. in the last 1/3rd of this video is a little off-putting, particularly given the stuff said about alex roy at vinwiki
Is that ice t
Is that Ice T ? Lol
Great car ! Gumball3000
Ice-T!
IVE done 155 in my 540, the m62tub44 and the s62b50 are pretty close, except 4.4, 5.0 (*ive mastered the e39 chassis) He could do better, everything he did minus the electronics i did to mine, but i went with a heavy suspension upgrade... he could have put more money in to the suspension (*yo Alex, get at me dude.. ill do you better then this guy)
M5 AWESOME
16 gallon fuel tank? Why not a 30 gallon or somethin??
Weight. There was also another passenger in the back seat running camera gear for the documentary. Good as BMW are, they can't handle as much weight as MBZ.
Great job getting Ice T for the voice over.
I drive on germany's autobahn favorized with sedans. Even some 911 Porsche and gt amg's are much faster. I prefer the mix of comfort and safety with power in a sedan. M5, E63 are imo much better for a cannonball record attempt than a sportscar
Oh nice. It's an ad.
I do believe ice t needs to do more narration. I mean the dude is Morgan freeman. But better
ruclips.net/video/MTJRhQuqc3E/видео.html
I would have to disagree with that statement "fastest performance sedan at the time". I recall the AMG's between 2003-2006 including E55, Ed Boolian's CL55, S55 and SL55 having more horse power and higher top speed. Not to mention again Ed Boolian beat Alex's record with a CL55. The M5 E39 is a great car but again this was in 2006.....the E60 M5 had just come out and would have been a faster contender as well.
clicked because bmw 5.0l V8
BECAUSE M5
Those antennas ruined the look of his car
You wont notice the antennas at 180mph

Objective Reality Would’ve been too slow to accelerate
@@standyourground9973 erm ..... how often would you accelerate ? and how much difference would it make ? a remapped 530d is a quicker car than an m5 in the real world and uses half the fuel , so half the fuel stops. I know I've owned both .
Objective Reality depends on what areas you’re passing through and if you’ll need to accelerate in a hurry to get away from anyone potentially trying to pen down a license plate
@@standyourground9973 I just think if someone was serious about the record they'd use a diesel. An e60 530d manual wagon with higher final drive, extra tank and narrower wheels. 100mph all day without the constant worry of something breaking and being gassed by the heated oil oozing out of every part of that s52 engine and coming through the cabin vents.
All that tech and police lights, weak. I say he ain't break the record.
What's a cannonball run 🤔
A race between the coasts in the US.
@@iamstd2 ok cool cool 🙌🏿
Not a fan of ice t narrative
alex who? lol
"It was the fastest performance sedan at the time" - No it wasn't, the E55 AMG killed this thing. So did the E60 M5 and Audi RS6.
ICE-T said at the time the e39 M5 came out in 1999 the E55 AMG had 349 HP, the e60 M5 didnt come out until 2006.
@@chrishebbeler7822 He broke the record in 2006, that's when he chose what car to use to break the record. What I was saying was that at the time, ie 2006, when he was trying to break the record, there were faster cars.
@@BlagoP yes of course, he was specifically talking about the e39 m5 was the fastest when it came out. Your correct in 2006 there were plenty of faster cars.
