I just finished watching your latest video of you and your friend digging/pulling out humongous crystals from Fisher Mountain in Arkansas. You commented at the end, asking your viewers if they wanted to come along with you and learn how to properly pull out crystals w/o breaking them. I would love nothing more than to do just that!!
Are they opening the mine a few days per year?
I’m in Seattle so I would need to fly to Arkansas and meet up on a planned date/time. So if you are serious about bringing others with you, I’d be honored to come along!! I hope you read your comments as this seemed to be the only contact info for you.
    Thank you so much!!
    Appreciatively, from,
    Lydia Biggs

Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: Now those are the size crystals I remember when going to Mount Ida as a kid. It was common back in the 60's and 70's to see them in many yards as decoration or up on tables with "for sale" signs. We would pay to dig but never got one bigger than 8 inches long... but we bought some behemoths out of the roadside stands... usually for around $25 to $40. I'm talking about ones that were more than a foot long.
Bryan, Thank you for this video... it brings back such lovely and wondrous memories. I giggle every time you pull those beauties from that clay... I remember that "Wha-a-a-at!" feeling... and I get to relive it again with you!
Safe and happy trails, Bryan and Matrix! 😊

Boy, what is it about Arkansas? The mountain range that runs through it is one of the oldest in the world, that I know. Thank must be why the crystals that come out of it are some of the biggest I have ever seen. Just look at the Amethyst crystals and how dark purple they are too. You always bring us the best videos show casing what these mines have to offer. I will make it there before I die!!

There has to be crystals like this in Australia ( where I live), but you hardly ever hear or see of large crystals. There is an old Molybdeum, Bismuth and Gold mine at KingsGate, rumour is that in the late 1800's the miners cursed the quartz crystals which they had to blast through to get to the metals. You could around 20 years pay an honesty box fee to prospect the old mine tailings, but without heavy machinery the best stuff had been taken long ago.

So, what is the geology of this place? I would imagine the clay is decayed feldspar and that this was all a pegmatite long ago. What other minerals have survived the decay, I wonder? Will here from the spiral jetty videos, in case people want to know. I would love to take you to get celestite geodes in Utah, with my retired professor friend. We went recently and I got some amazing samples that I cut and polished in my garage.

This area of Arkansas was volcanically active at some point in its past (i don't know if the system itself still is or not, since there are hot springs), and these "pockets" grew in a very deep hydrothermal system where there were large enough voids to accommodate them. The red clay is eons of decaying rock slowly filling in these cavities.
If you look slightly right of that pocket there is a rock shelf that was more resilient than whatever rock decayed into clay, and the cavities themselves were likely the result of spreading from either magma intrusions that drained away and were already part of a large under ground reservoir of water that shot into faults that opened up from earthquakes.
