    To be clear, in case I get them confused, Bronze = good, brass = less good.

    The green discoloration isn't an allergic reaction, it's a copper compound (probably some copper sulphur compound) from the copper in the brass reacting with oils from your skin (basically the same process that turns silver black after you touch it), quite similar to the verdigris that forms on brass statues outdoors with time.

      Oh, good to know. It wasn't uncomfortable, just unsightly.

    I'm playing around with some Colorfabb Copper Fill PLA - very dense, prints beautifully, made a ring and some small jars and they feel like ceramic. It polishes up nice too. Recommended.

    By the mid point of this video I was confused by what he was talking about. It seems like every other sentience he swapped the word brass and bronze. Is bronze fill usable and brass to brittle to use, or the other way around?

      I honestly thought I kept it straight most of the time. I think I got them flipped once, though to be fair getting them flipped is how I accidently made the right choice.
      Bronze good, brass bad.

    I found out the heavy material need more heat and/or be printed slow, with a cooling fan full tilt.

    ´hardend nozzles are easily bought at E3D, if you are going by E3D V6 or equal.
    I have checked esun bronze with a 0.4 brass nozzle and it works fine, and it is heavy.
    The esun eSteelFill is even heavier than bronze..
    But for further use, I will order a 0.4, 0.5 nozzle from E3D in UK
    Sofar, thanks for your videos, which are really awesome

    Nice video. Have you ever tried printing on a worn out nozzle with larger settings? I'm curious if you could get away with calling a worn down .4mm nozzle .5mm or .6mm in the software to finish a print if you didn't' have a backup?

    • @3dpprofessor
      @3dpprofessor  7 лет назад +1

      Theoretically, but getting that measured right is a significant challenge. And if you're doing it to keep printing the abrasive filament it's a moving target. But, theoretically, yes, you could do that.
      But, do keep spare nozzles on hand if you can.

    Could your brass filament absorb some moisture and thus corrupt before you print it?

    I'm playing with Filaprint 70% brass filled filament at the moment. I have noticed that it takes a long time to cool and requires a lower temperature with maximum part cooling.
    Curious as to why bronze works better than brass, when the base plastic should have the same strength, I though I'd check the specific heat capacities of the two alloys.
    Brass is 0.377 kJ/kg and bronze is 0.435 kJ/kg, about 15% higher.
    This means brass would take longer to coll to below the glass transition temperature, and allow for greater inter layer bonding, I believe.
    In you video about tungsten filled filament, you found it to be even more brittle. Tungsten's specific heat capacity is 0.134 kJ/kg, which fits the pattern.
    I could be wrong, but it would be interesting to try printing at a higher temperature (say, 15% higher?), slower speed (15% slower?), more part cooling?

    It may be me, but I think you are saying Bronzefill when you should be saying Brassfill, even towards the end of the video....Bronzefill is the way to go.....I think?

    • @3dpprofessor
      @3dpprofessor  7 лет назад

      Bronzefill is the way to go.
      I mean, I got them confused in the first place, which is how I ended up having a good experience with Bronzefill. So, yeah, I think I got the confused once in the video as well. Sorry for the confusion. Use bronzefill.

      Sent you a thumbs up.......Good to know 'bout the brittle'ness of Brassfill...........Thank You

      @3dpprofessor  7 лет назад

      It's not just brittle, though. It prints like mud. I'm sorry I didn't get a good picture of it, but it's really awful.

    Lol bronze and brass gets you really confused in this video haha.... I think half way through bronze became brass and brass became bronze

    • @3dpprofessor
      @3dpprofessor  7 лет назад

      So confused. Of course if I wasn't confused I might have gotten brassfill and thought that all fills suck. Hopefully the description clarifies it.

      Even in editing I wasn't sure I got it right, but I thought I had. It like I'm dyslexic when it comes to metal. Metalexic. Or maybe I just have problems with alliteration. Alliterexic. Or maybe Alliterate. I should stop.

    This video is very confusing, you keep mixing bronzefill and brassfill and contradicting yourself over and over, and first you say the tile on the wall was printed with bronzefill, then you say it was brassfill and now I don't even know which it actually was! At around 8:50 you say you weren't impressed by bronzefill, but earlier on in the video you're saying it was brassfill which was the more brittle one!
    After watching the complete video, I still am unsure which one you actually liked more.

    • @3dpprofessor
      @3dpprofessor  7 лет назад

      Yeah, sorry about that. I tried to catch myself when I was filming. Sorry. Though the fact that I couldn't keep them straight is why I ended up getting the good stuff (bronze) in the first place.
      Bronzefill = good. Brassfill = less good. Hope that clears it up.
