I would like to see a tutorial on a few things 1. Painting faces 2. Sculpting helmets, accessories, etc 3. Using sealant (so the paint doesn't scratch off)
Helmets don’t get sculpted they get molded. A large syringe injects molten plastic into a mold that splits down the middle and exposes a cavity in the shape of a clone helmet or blaster (depending on the exact mold) on a smaller scale than LEGO Themselves.
A push pin, I always wondered how the hell you got such small lines. I had always appreciated the amount of time and effort but dear lord I didn’t think it was this involved, now I have an even bigger respect and amazement for you. Amazing video, can’t wait for more.
@@stopmotionthingz6844 nothing specific really, just go to your local hobby store and ask them for a sealer, I even use non-hobby sometimes like from warehouses. The only difference is gloss, matte or semi gloss, thats up to personal preference.
I had no idea MGF even paints the base layers with the tac. Previously I’ve used brushes but I get now why he does. It makes the layering process smoother.
*Me, working on a custom Flash and thinking about making the emblem:* I've been looking forward to this Edit: *Me realizing how tedious Groot and Harley must've been, using that painting style:* You are still a god damn legend
I really like this little insight into your process. I would love if you would also explain why you don't use brushes for painting and do you water down the paints at all?
It's easier for him and other customizers like myself to get good and precise details with thumbtacks and tooth picks. And no he doesn't water down the paint
Loved this video you gotta make more of these hahaha I was always stumped on how to not get arm rub between the arm and the side of the torso when you paint there
Really awesome to see you finally made a video on how you paint your minifigs. Been watching your videos since 2010 and it’s insane to see how far you have came man, your future is only getting brighter
I made attempts a few years back, bit they never turned out well. I'm typically do drawing. In fact, I'm about to make the jump into digital drawing. But this video reinspires me to try painting LEGO minifigures again.
You inspired me when I was young. I took my Lego Batman figure and tried to make my own batman Arkham knight suit out of sharpie 😂 I might remake that figure using your Tutorials. Keep up the good work. You’ve inspired so many of us
I make custom clones, mostly with sharpie, and I’ve been doing it for about a year now. This has helped a lot, because I want to start using paint, to improve my guys.
Man I love this! I really hope you’ll do more paint tutorials, on different type of figures, like on how to paint all the lines on an iron man minifigure and all of that stuff... I mean these are just ideas I have but you know
Ross ups his quality in content, starts a new style of video, and gets a SPONSOR. That is insane! I'm seriously enjoying the direction of this channel and can't wait to see what comes next!
Dude this is great! You inspired me to start customizing (along with a few other youtubers) and it's just crazy how great your customs come out and I've been following and enjoying your content for over 3 years. Keep it up!
I have been following this channel for years and you inspired me to make my own figures years back, I don’t make them anymore but after watching this video maybe I’ll have to go back to it.
Thanks for making a video like this man. There's something about other RUclipsrs tutorials and even just seeing the finished product from a lot of you guys that's so intimidating. So intimidating that I didn't even want to try. I was going to just either do decals or not do it at all. Seeing you make it seems so simple is really making me want to try it out for real!
I've actually been doing this type of thing since 2017 because of you, Ross, so... I beat your tutorial to it. 🍑, this has helped me with learning new tactics for painting decals on figures.
Finally a tutorial! I think this should be a main focus of the channel then having the big reveals at the end being the showcases. It’s a nice fresh slate Michael well done keep it up !
Now finally i can start creating custom minifigs! :D thank you alot!! :D Could you show us how to do the " The Flash " suit you made a few years ago along with " Reverse Flash " ? Like the helmet? Or maybe the Jedi Robe?? I would appriciate it alot
Man, this was so very helpful for me personally! I have been painting minfigures for a while now and I never thought to paint with PUSH PINS! I went to the store today and completely changed my set up and it’s now PERFECT. Thank you!!
THIS is the tutorial series that I’ll need to make really good custom minifigures. I was always really curious on how you were even able to get all the little details in things like the Nano Gauntlet on Iron Man Mark 85 or the scales on Endgame Captain America. I’m really looking forward to the future episodes of this series!
Well this is great man, I'm probably gonna keep using decals, as I've perfected my skills using that for years, but I might give this a go for curved parts where decals don't work as well 😁 Keep up the good work man
This is super interesting. The use of a pin is something I should've know about two months back when I started painting my custom S7 Ahsoka headpiece, that I literally finished and sealed mere hours before this video released.. Lovely introduction to the series! Very much looking forward to the next episodes! Also mad respect for those incredibly calm hands!
I have been trying to make LEGO customs figures. This video will always be may tutorial to watch when i am making a lego customs figure. Thank you for the this video.
I have been waiting SO LONG for this series to come out! I remember when he posted his Winter Soldier video and even back then, I thought "I wanna know how to do that!"
Dude, that video was so awesome. So now that I know how you do it, I now have more tactics and options to experiment with. Thanks. I would love for you to do more vids like this.
This is very well done. I like that you’ve listed what kind of paints you use, and what kind of tools you used. I never would’ve thought about using a pin to do that small detailing. For a future tutorial, maybe you could do the 3D elements that go on the figures. Good luck on the Avengers showcase, and keep being amazing.
thank you so much for sharing this tutorial i rly loved ur custom minifigs since i was 9 and now im 16 i recently got back to lego stuff and im gonna try to do this
I am very impressed by your work. I started as a house painter 40 years ago and gradually moved to sign writing until computers took over and there was not a lot of work for hand painted signs. I was by then painting murals on a part time basis so I went full time on that and run a small business painting trompe l'oil scenic murals for private clients. I run it for about 12 years until it was not viable as a business (not enough demand). So it was fun, enjoyable and my clients loved my work but one thing most people complained was how long some of my images took to create. I learn short cuts along the way but if you wanted something realistic it needed time and in you I found someone who has gone beyond me! I'm super impressed by your patience and attention to detail. Have you ever timed any of your projects? How much would you charge if you were to sell one of your custom minifigures? I have mostly used water base paints so I could see why you chose that over other types of paint and since I have never used a tack pin to paint I will give it a go! One should never stop learning!
Ah man! The endgame ones look great. And while I make digital customs instead of physical this was still really nice to see inside your skills and how YOU do it, and I’ve really been wondering after all these years. Thank you Michael.
Ever since I started watching you I’ve wanted to custom paint figures as well however I’ve never been good at it. I believe with this tutorial I can do so much better. I also customize transformers and want to do some MARVEL legends and I believe this will help. Thanks for the video. Keep up the great work.

I have waited YEARS for a vid like this from YOU!!!
