- Known as the "father of snowboarding", Jake Burton helped popularise the sport that was banned by ski resorts until 1983.

In the late 1970s, he had seen the possibilities of using a single board and launched Burton Snowboards to make snowboarding equipment, helping to build the sport's profile worldwide. By 1998 snowboarding had made it to the Olympics.

Doesn't really matter who invented it, it's who made it what it is today which is undoubtably Jake.
Nowhere in the interview did Jake say he created it. Clearly he said he started his designs based on the snurfer. Also it's Sherman Poppen not Scott.
