I’ve had mine since they came out. Definitely a great camera to own and work with. As long as you understand the couple limitations that come with it (primarily the battery life) the rest that it comes with make it so with it.
Always love when you toss up a R5C video! And I can't be more happy that I found the Small Rig V-Mount batter mount solution. LOVE it.... I have the SONGING 50WH battery and the 8'' duel 90 degree usb-c cable to power the camera for long trips and I love that it can charge the camera when powered off... and other devices like my iphone or ear buds, or whatever.
I appreciate the content you put out about the R5C !! I love this camera it’s currently my A cam after figure out the battery work around, This camera is capable of so much!!
When I travel light for a shoot, I bring my r5 with the 28-70 f2 and 24 1.8 if it's heavy on video. Or 28-70 and 85 1.2 if heavy on photos. I prefer primes but when flying I've learned to go with less especially for hectic shoots when I don't have time to change lenses. I will be swapping out the 24 for the 10-20 when it finally comes
man i'm super-glad to see this upgrade to your format, including some travel footage always great to see. while i love the technical side-by-sides, think this makes your channel bit more comprehensive (and enjoyable ofc!)
Beautiful footage! I have a c70 and R5c and go back and forth on selling my c70 and just going all R5c. As you’ve demonstrated with your footage, using clog3 doesn’t have to be a negative. If it looks great, it looks great!
Thanks Dustin! Both are great cameras. The extra dynamic range of the C70 and Clog2 is definitely helpful in some situations, but you can get a lot done with the R5C and Clog3.
Nice vid, man!! I know we talked a lot about gear prior to the gig, but it's so cool to see how you actually fit it all in your bag and to see how portable you were able to make such a high-quality kit.
Thanks for sharing. Gotta say, ballsy move not taking even a micro kind of tripod but the interview stuff looks great in the clips you show. Hand held video always scares me but I don’t like gimbals either. That and no external light source. Ballsy #2. Speed on b-rolls is paramount, in a factory or Corp event. You never think you have enough, at least I don’t. I helps to know your gear and use it to its best ability. Looking forward to your next post!
You're welcome! Well I was working with some friends on this project so the gear we brought was kind of their call. We really needed minimal gear and a light kit because we were constantly moving around. A small tripod would have been nice for the interview shots. The final project will be fairly fast paced and the interview shots will only be used as short clips, no long form. So I think it all worked out really well. Thanks for watching!
Epic video! Haven't traveled with the R5C, makes me feel more comfortable after seeing this if I do, especially for client work. Footage looked great! Also, did you shoot in xf-avc, mp4, or RAW? Sorry if I missed that part. Thanks Josh!
Great images. I love seeing what creators/pros actually shoot besides talking head. I love that you got "Comedy Mothership" in there! I had a small part in a movie with Joe Rogan. Great dude. Besides the battery there's a ton to like about the R5c. I use the same mic but I also bring the Comica wireless mic. That's a good fix if you need distance from the talent. I might even grab that bag. I have a hard back pack that the zipper just sucks. Good stuff bud. Well, if you find yourself back in Texas I'd be happy to loan you C70's/R5c for easy travel.
Great video as per usual, and as someone who also would reach for the FX3 for most professional situations and would love to play with something like the r5c (for sharpness and evf) but worry that the poor battery life and micro HDMI would complicate things. Yet, your rig looked simple to set up and fairly compact... on top of all the footage looking fantastic! Also, I feel like your drone skills aren't talked about enough, I'd love to hear your approach on flying and editing that footage as well one day.
Thank you for the kind words. Yeah, people have asked me in the past for some content about drones, but I'm not really sure what to share. I do use my drone for work a lot though. Thanks for watching!
Hey Josh! I am currently a 1DX Mark III user. Found myself originally purchasing for fast action photography, BUT have switched to primarily video. Been eyeing the R5C for its compact size and image quality/flexibility in regards to video. My main hold up is the autofocus. Do you think with the current firmware that it can hold up to fast paced action sports and rodeo filmmaking? The main reason I'm still lugging around my 1DX/Heavy Ef lenses is because it just works. Thanks in advance. Keep up the great work!
The AF in the R5C in video modes is not as quick and snappy as their other mirrorless cameras. It also has limited subject detection. For photography, the R5C acts just like the R5.
@@Josh_Sattin thanks for the response! Man I love all the features packed into the R5C, but might need to settle on the R3. Autofocus is pretty important for the type of work I do in regards to video
Thanks! Here are a couple of videos where I explain my exposing and grading techniques: ruclips.net/video/JCDaz1Ewirg/видео.html ruclips.net/video/H7ndRK37ZkU/видео.html
@@Josh_Sattin Thanks Josh! Those help for sure, and definitely make me think about upgrading one of my EOS Rs to an R5C. Just to have the exposure tools would be awfully nice.
Dear Josh. Thank you for this one 😊 I have also the Smallrig V-Mount battery. Do you know how to turn it on when it is already attached to the camera? I have to plug it out and again in, in order to use it. :(
Hey Josh for someone like me who is a photographer and want to start video do you think i should go with the R5 or the R5C right now i have the eos R which i want to keep. Thanks in advance
It's like everything in one, but it's expensive to pay for everything, expensive, but according to the purpose and taste and pocket of the client, who pays, he orders a backpack
i want the r5c so bad i been saving up for the past 3 months i almost have enough to be able to own one finallyyy!😁
It's so worth it! I saved up and bought it and it's already paid itself off!
It looks like we may see a R5 Mark II this year. I will be waiting for that one, because the AF system will be at least as good as on the R6 Mark ii.
I got it used. It was the best investment ever.
@@ezzinemouradalso supposedly the R5 MK II will have CLOG2!

Nice! Yeah the modern mini v mounts with USB are so handy!
@@Josh_Sattin love it too because don’t even really need to run a cage if I’m just rocking the camera monitor and toss a mic on the hot shoe.
This footage is amazing. If I ever made ONE video this good I would die happy.
You are too kind. Thanks for watching!
I bring my 31L as my personal all the time. Once it’s on your back no one questions it.
I appreciate the content you put out about the R5C !! I love this camera it’s currently my A cam after figure out the battery work around, This camera is capable of so much!!

You need that 24-105 2.8 ! ultimate workhorse lens.
Hey Josh, excellent overview of your gear. Really appreciate the effort you must have put into this! 😊👍
Thank you so much!

Love the intro! Thanks for sharing your kit. Gave me some ideas for how to pack my R5C on future trips😅
Thanks! Glad the video gave you some ideas!
Great video brother. The R5C is SUCH a beast. Totally misunderstood and underappreciated camera. Your footage looks great.
Thanks Brian! Yeah the R5C is such a strong camera... as you know!
I've been loving your R5c videos!
Thank you!

Thanks Mark! Yeah it was a tight squeeze getting all that in one backpack.
I use the Shimoda Action v2 backpack, it's a roll top, for my travel with gear and clothes and Pelican 1510 for my extra gear.
Thanks for the R5C content and ideas 💡
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video. I’ve been wanting to do some run and gun stuff for my channel but I have a bad habit of overpacking.
