I would advise you take a business class before trying to tell others that you make $5100 a day. That’s HORRIBLE false advertising. You got inventory with an estimated VALUE of $5100 in one day, not including COGS, fees, shipping, etc. You then go on to confirm your average sell thru rate is 90 days, but what about the pieces that don’t sell? What about offers or discounts? Ugh.
Thank you for your comment! I really appreciate your input. The title reflects that I added $5,100 in inventory value to my business today. I did my best to explain that in the video. I completely understand the sentiment of your comment. In my efforts to grow this youtube channel I am on an endless journey of making enjoyable/informative videos while trying to create engaging titles and thumbnails. Again I really appreciate your feedback. It's feedback like this that will help tailor my future videos. Thanks again and have a wonderful day 😊

To all the doubters, making $5100 on those 300 items is absolutely doable. He has an ASP of $17 and some of those items will sell for a lot more than that. Maybe the title was a little clickbaity....should be more like "How I Add $5,100 of inventory to my Store in One day." If you're a reseller that title is still engaging because sourcing 300 items in one day is hard freaking work. Good job, Jacob!
Thank you so much for the kind and supportive comment! I have a strong chin, I don't mind the negative feedback. It will help me make better videos in the future! I really appreciate the support. I'm happy you understand the context of the video! Thanks again and have a wonderful day 😊
Do you ACTUALLY believe he is selling 300 items a day, every day?? If he is making "$5100 a day" and he is doing this every day, 5 days a week (20 days per month), then that would add up to $1,224,000 per year! Do you REALLY believe this guy is making $1,224,000 per year selling some alleged massive amount of clothes, each day, all by himself? (Or even with a helper, of which I don't remember him saying anyone is even helping him)? He is HUGELY misleading people with the title of this video. He keeps posting that he says in the video that he "added $5100 inventory" that day, and THAT is how he came up with the "$5100" number. Again, this is SO misleading. What he ACTUALLY did was this: He spent $480 on clothes ("$1.60 per item" he says) that he HOPES will EVENTUALLY sell at an average of $17 per item. With all these facts in mind, this video is a joke.
I watched this a year ago so I don’t remember what he said, but I can speak for myself. My average sell price is $32. I list 25 a day and sell 25 a day. I work part-time and have 1 girl who takes my photos. I source and list by myself. In two hours at the bins I can get between 40-50 items.
@@theresourcerie Congratulations. You're doing very well. BUT, are you doing anywhere near $1.2 million per year, as the guy in video essentially alleges he is doing (and all by himself, he suggests)?? If you add up the numbers he gives in his video - along with his claim of making "$5100 a day" - then that is how I calculated how he essentially claims he is making $1.2 million per year selling used clothes (and again, doing ALL that inventory and work -- ALL by himself, without any help). I am not making a point about him being better than you. Quite the contrary. I am making the point that if you (or anyone else) believes his joke video, then, as the old saying goes, "I got a bridge in Brooklyn that I'd like to sell you".
This is exactly what i needed to see. Ive had an eye for all these nice brands i see at goodwill every since i first went there. I have been talking about opening an online store to resell things. Im gonna do it
I could totally do this all day, and just post them, sell them and package them all up with a shipping label and bring them to the post office right? Thats all there really is to it? I feel like i could be doing this exact same thing in my apartment every day bro wtf why am i pushing shopping carts at a costco at 28 years old
Everyone who was upset with the title…. Dude got 24k in views so I guess it worked 🤷♀️. Everyone is doing it or putting crazy eyed thumbnails. Fact is video had good deets. Get it bro!
It would be nice to see you work in real time. Photographing 250 items a day sounds great, and I'm interested in seeing how you're able to do all that (1 min per item as you mentioned). That would be really inspiring! Even if it's just 25 items or so, just to get an idea.
I would love to make a video like that! The only thing preventing me from doing something like that is that I film these videos and take photos for my inventory both on my phone. Once I upgrade to a dedicated youtube camera I will surly do that. Maybe I can convince my fiance to let me use her phone to take some time lapses of me working in future videos. Thanks so much for the comment and suggestion. It's going on my list! Have a great day 😀
@@vintagebyjacob do you usually take photos of everything you’ll list for the week all on one day? Then do you make drafts and just list a certain amount each day or do you just take photos and then do listings from scratch each time you sit down to list?
Pictures are easy once you find a rhythm and a system. I personally just copy and paste what other people have put for the same item and then reword it, but definitely do not do this method if you are newer. Sometimes things look like something else but they are not. Also this is like a job, while you might be thinking being your own boss is fun, if all shit hits the fan you will have no one to blame but yourself. It can take several months if not years to memorize all the vintage tags so definitely do not try this unless you already have a full time job.
Do you take measurements? If you don’t, do you get requests for measurements after you’ve listed the item? I dread taking measurements & that’s what keeps me from doing more clothes
Great question! I do not initially take measurements. I prefer to take requests for measurements. It all comes down to time for my business. I find it more effective to do measurements on the back end for serious buyers rather than upfront. For someone who doesn't process as much inventory as I do I would recommend taking measurements as it is a common request. I expect this to change as I start to hire employees, but for now that's what I do. Thanks for the awesome question! 😀
@@vintagebyjacob I take forever to take measurements, and fabric content. Starting today, I am not going to. I have about 400 items to list, so I'm going to just list and see if I still get sales without taking the extra 5 minutes per to get measurements.
Love this video! You find some great items at the bins! Do you see a bump in traffic and sales when you list a bunch of items in one day, as opposed to the same amount of items each day? (For example listing 30 items in 1 day instead of 5 items each day over 6 days) Also, would you consider doing a 2022 recap of your business, including your gross sales and net profit total and also broken down by platform and which ones you had the most success with? I’ve seen other resellers do this on RUclips and not only was it helpful but it attracted a lot of attention 😊
Thanks so much for the comment! I really appreciate it! Fantastic question! Personally I find it more effective to get everything listed as fast as possible. It might not be the most optimized method for getting the most traffic but I always like to stay ahead of my inventory. That is a great video idea! I am definitely interested in making a recap video! Thanks again for the comment and the great idea! Have a wonderful day and keep working hard! 💪 😀
@@vintagebyjacob you certainly spend more each goodwill visit than i do. That plays a factor for everyone individually. 😂 how about that stuff you unwrap that's brand new or the stuff you pull off the shelf at the store that's brand new you think that's clean about 50 Chinese children's hands have touched it not to mention about 30 chain smoking Chinese dudes wrapping it all up then they just send it right to the store and sell it to you if you don't wash your clothes in the store and you just put it on it's even more disgusting than this
This is great! Just subscribed - Just starting at this and starting with selling all of the stuff I've collected over the years by being an avid thrifter and garage saler. Time to declutter the house and make some extra money. Going to watch the rest of your videos now to learn!
Awesome vid - loved your zeal in making thing's happen for yr busi- why do u cling wrap the items and store it in a box ? Is it upto the time u get a customer to buy it ?
Do you have a spreadsheet of all the brands you’ve found over time with info about them? Or have you just memorized them from doing this for a while? Your presentation of this is very natural and professional.
Great video I do the same from Tampa Florida! Where are you located? Also do you already have a video that explains how you store and classify all your inventory. I have about 400 pairs of shoes and 1,000 clothes items starting off and need to figure out inventory management.
Thanks so much for the comment! Sounds like you have a good amount of inventory for sale. Good for you! Keep up the hard work! I'm based in Colorado. Some of my videos touch on how I manage inventory. I am on a short hiatus from making videos currently, but when I'm back, I'll make a video that covers this in more detail! @@vintagebyjacobHey thanks for the response! In the future I’d love to come out to Colorado to hit the bins with ya👍 Looking forward to the video. I’ve been buying wholesale shoes and clothes from a reputable seller. Even though this stuff is new with tags the goodwill items sell much faster haha
Yo i recognize ur car. It's a Ford Expedition 1st Gen in red. I had the same vehicle model. It was my first car, my family's car. We sold it this January 2024, because we no longer needed such a big car, it was bad on gas, and it the suspensions parts were wearing out and the engine leaked oil.

@@vintagebyjacob love it! So since you don’t list every day, you will usually list a bunch of items at once when you do list? Doe you see immediate increased traffic and sales when that happens?

Do you feel not showing measurements hinders sales? Clothes take the longest to list, for me anyway... I love DVD's so easy to list... but they take forever to sell sometimes!! I wanna try more clothes....!
Hi Jacob I started a new strategy about six months ago buying only $1 or $2 clothing at garage sales. Do you do sell through rate or do you pick up all you can find and throw the non sellers after a certian amount of time? Curious on your strategy.
Awesome strategy! I do track my sell thru rate, old inventory gets marked down. I have several other strategies for old inventory as well. Maybe I'll make a video on it. Thanks!
Hey Jacob awesome video man I love the grind I’m grinding everyday doing the 9-5 and eBay as much as I can, i read some of your comments, can you give me a few cross posting tips? I think what I’ve been missing the most is 1: being an everything seller 2: are the items im selling quality 3: What and where’s better to list? Im so excited everyday im done with the 9:5 so I can actually work I can’t even hold it together with positive aggression
Thank you so much for the comment and questions! I will actually make a video discussing these questions because there is a lot to unpack here! Keep working hard, and I will address these soon! 💪😁
Thanks for the comment! I understand why you would think this title can be mistaken as clickbait. Inventory value is a very important metric to my business. Did I use this number to make a more engaging title? Absolutely. Thank you for the pronunciation! I never knew that! Again, I appreciate the comment. Have a wonderful day 😊
cool...good work love the positivity/ it's a bit click baity though to say you earned $5100 in a day rather than sourced items with an estimated worth of that amount. Just keeping it real :)
Hello! Thanks for the great question. Most items I sell are as is. I will clean/wash items depending on the condition. If the smell/hair is too bad, I just won't source it in the first place. Thanks again and have a great day 😀
@@vintagebyjacob common sense. even when i take items to buff exchange i dont waste my time on anything that "might" sell or looks at all questionable. They judge your clothes the same way. why waste time on iffy items. Shoppers/clothes buys have a similar approach as well. If the buff x folks dont want an item either i wont even take it back. time is extra money. why waste it. much better off taking a chance on a hammy down top designer item. i would personally wear scratched ray bands way longer than non branded with a scuff or two. unfortunatly consumers are human and dont want to be judged neg by society.
Patience! There are a few key factors that go into making sales. Item quality, price, marketing. Above all is patience. Just hold in there, and the sales will come. You will learn a lot along the way! Best of luck on your reselling journey! 😁
How do you handle cross posting? im worried im going to double sell and get my accounts closed. trying to cross post on posh and ebay, growing from 200 to 1000 this year. Help:( I sold the same item on 2 platforms. how do you deal with this so it doesnt happen again or often?
Great question! Maybe I will make a video on this. I generally don't cross post all my items. I pick and choose which items I feel will sell best on each platform. This can be a complex topic and my thoughts on crossposting are always changing. Thanks for the question! 😀
I think that is a exaggeration. I have sold on eBay for 10 years part time. Maybe you had a day or two where you sold that much , but every day or even half of that I say no. And all the bins here have regulars that are very aggressive and it is not easy to get good things. It is very stressful.
Thank you so much for the comment! You are right. I did not sell $5,100 that day. I did my best to explain that I added $5,100 in inventory, not sold. I have some aggressive regulars at my bins too (I might be one as well 😉). Thanks for the comment! Have a wonderful day! 😊
You do a good job explaining what you mean in the video but it’s the title that’s misleading. “How I Make $5,100/Day Reselling” means you have revenues or profit of $5.1k per day, which obviously isn’t what you meant. Just my two cents… keep up the informative videos and good luck on your business this year!
I shop at the bins and starting to sell I’ve been pre treating the clothes and then taking it to the laundry I find myself using a lot of resources and it’s a hassle am I doing it wrong ? Should I keep doing this to my bin finds before listing or should I just list it straight off the bat ?
Great question! It really depends on the condition of the garment. I have found garments from the bins that I have not treated. However, I would say most do from the bins. Use your best judgment, think from. The consumers' prospective! Thanks, and have a great day 😀
Advice , you should be more descriptive in your video about listing. Congrats on having a business and inventory of projected cost. Maybe your are one of the few who avg 17 dollars per item, but I can tell you just on the items you mentioned, I also have posted similar brands and took more then 6 months to sell. Also 1 min per item to list is not correct. Yes people have a system, but you still have to look, cross reference, weight the items, etc and by the time it’s been 6-10 mins. Templates help when you cross different apps, but would like to see the video on how you actually do 1 min listings. Not hating just being real. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Thank you so much for the constructive comment! I really appreciate it! I would be more than happy to make a video that addresses all of this. I am on a short hiatus from making videos currently but once I'm back this will be one of the first ones make! Thank you again and have a wonderful day. 😊
He makes 5100 a day, he never has bad days, he drives a 1970 van and Ebay always gives him sales no matter if a server is down yet 1000 of people are complaining of NO SALES on Ebay, down servers etc etc even resellers who have been selling on the platform for 21yrs and have 60,000 items listed is NOT making 5100 a day. Not even in a week. Thats total BS!
Hello! Thank you for your comment. I really appreciate your insight! I tried to explain clearly in this video that I added $5,100 of inventory to my business in a day. Thanks and have a wonderful day 😊

I really would have watched the entire video if it was titled "How I sourced $5100 worth of items in one day" or similar. But I'm just one person. If your audience doesn't mind click bait you'll be just fine.
@@vintagebyjacob you were spot on high quality wool, check the inside of the hat there should be a stamp with the size. The bigger sizes are worth more… if you still have it
You said you have over 300 items that will NET you $5,100. I would suggest you revise your language to say you have 300 items you hope to sell for a GROSS sales amount of $5,100 - your NET will be after eBay fees, cost of goods, postage, shipping supplies. I understand your desire is to get viewers, but misleading titles don’t help people get started in reselling. Not hating, just an observation.
Just going to keep it real as someone who does 6 figures in pre-owned clothing with a very high STR. I'm highly skeptical of the claim of listing 250 items after sourcing 300 at the bins all in one day. The return rate must be astronomical because that's simply front, back, tag, logo, wrap, done. No washing (bins notoriously have smelly/dirty clothing), no measurements (used clothing typically shrinks or expands depending on the wash history and size of previous owner), no title optimization, no price research, no item specifics -- you're going to have items sitting forever unless you just run all at auction. The prices you mentioned were very optimistic coming from experience. Not trying to hate, but this video is just very much unrealistic and not what one should expect. A much more realistic and profitable goal is to source 30 or so very good items a day and list about that amount per day. That's a manageable amount and is easily 6 figures with a low return rate and good customer service. This model is a good way to have thousands of items that will never sell, tons of returns, and lots of negative feedback.
Someone posted in which she said: "My average sell price is $32. I list 25 a day and sell 25 a day. I work part-time and have 1 girl who takes my photos. I source and list by myself. In two hours at the bins I can get between 40-50 items." My question to you (because you are in this business) is: What is the likelyhood that someone can have an average selling price of $32 for a used article of clothing? Doesn't that seem VERY high for a USED article of clothing?
@@Quickdraw1111 It's actually very doable in used clothing. You just have to be pickier about what you sell. But don't think in terms of "every item I get has to be selling for $30...", it's much easier to think in terms of, " 1) I'm going to sell a lot of basic, run of the mill items that are widely available but desirable ($7-$15/profit -- pay $1-$3 and sell for $10 to $20+shipping) 2) I'm going to find some items that were bad buys and I just break even on or only make a few bucks ($0-$6 or even a loss of money--just move them, they take up physical space and mental real estate...not worth hanging onto) 3) I'll get better at finding those desirable items that aren't saturated yet (several daily sales of $20+/profit items---pay $5-$10 and sell for $30-$50+ shipping) and 4) I'm going to find a few bangers on more rare occasions (pay $1 to $20 and make $30, 50, or even $100/profit.) The good items will bring your ASP up, but the steady, low profit items are the pulse of your business. The majority of clothing sellers get into trouble when they forget the main rule of reselling used clothing: cash flow is king. You're better off breaking even, getting that money and just buying something else vs hanging on for dear life in hopes your unicorn buyer comes along and pays up for it. The reason for that is because you get BETTER at knowing what sells and you learn more as time goes on, so you can redeploy your profits more wisely as time goes on.
Thanks for the awesome comment! My business volume is very high volume and my average sales price is pretty low compared to most resellers. This model has its downsides obviously. Higher returns, low quality listing's that take longer to sell, low price points, but it works for me! Thanks again for the comment and have a wonderful day :)
7:20 Oh really? I would have assumed the items with notable characters would be easier to sell for higher amounts because people would find it worth it if it’s something they really like.

@@vintagebyjacob Ok, lets to the numbers: *Working 5 days a week (off on the weekends), 4 weeks per month, 12 months per year = 240 working days. *Let's say you take off 30 days for vacation during the year and do no work during that time. 240 - 30 = 210 working days. *You say that you make $5100 per day? Okay, let's make it an even $5000 a day (after all, sometimes you sell slightly less, right?) *210 working days, at $5000 a day = $1,050,000 Do you really expect us to believe that not only that you make over $1 million a year, BUT you ALSO are doing all of this ALL BY YOURSELF?? Thanks for the comment! I really appreciate it. I agree with you that listing 300 items in a day is extremely tough. However, I disagree. It is not impossible. The haul in this specific video did take 2 days to accomplish. Typically, listing 100-200 items is extremely practical. It all comes down to having good inventory/listing systems in place. Yes, I absolutely am! Again, I appreciate the comment. Thanks again, and have a wonderful day 😊

I could totally do this all day, and just post them, sell them and package them all up with a shipping label and bring them to the post office right? Thats all there really is to it?

Everyone who was upset with the title…. Dude got 24k in views so I guess it worked 🤷♀️. Everyone is doing it or putting crazy eyed thumbnails. Fact is video had good deets. Get it bro!
Thanks for the comment! Have a great day 😁
It would be nice to see you work in real time.
I have about 400 items to list, so I'm going to just list and see if I still get sales without taking the extra 5 minutes per to get measurements.

loved that I found this video, we are tipping our toe into the resale business and this was realistic, thoughtful and a great place to start thank you
Thanks for the kind comment :)

Hi Jacob I started a new strategy about six months ago buying only $1 or $2 clothing at garage sales. Do you do sell through rate or do you pick up all you can find and throw the non sellers after a certian amount of time? Curious on your strategy.

Do you wash or clean any of you items or do you sell as is. Wondering about the clothes that have a smokey sell or have animal hair all over it.
I just started doing this. I picked up a few good finds at a couple thrift shops. Any tips for getting my first sell?
@@vintagebyjacob Your welcome! I misunderstood as well as others. I appreciate the response to my comment.
What app do you use to make the background white
I'll make a video about it 😀
He makes 5100 a day, he never has bad days, he drives a 1970 van and Ebay always gives him sales no matter if a server is down yet 1000 of people are complaining of NO SALES on Ebay, down servers etc etc even resellers who have been selling on the platform for 21yrs and have 60,000 items listed is NOT making 5100 a day. Not even in a week. Thats total BS!
Hello! Thank you for your comment. I really appreciate your insight! I tried to explain clearly in this video that I added $5,100 of inventory to my business in a day. Thanks and have a wonderful day 😊
EXACTLY!! If he is making "$5100 a day" and he is doing this every day, 5 days a week (20 days per month), then that would add up to $1,224,000 per year! Does anyone REALLY believe this guy is making $1,224,000 per year selling some alleged massive amount of clothes, each day, all by himself? (Or even with a helper, of which I don't remember him saying anyone is even helping him)? He is HUGELY misleading people with the title of this video. He keeps posting that he says in the video that he "added $5100 inventory" that day, and THAT is how he came up with the "$5100" number. Again, this is SO misleading. What he ACTUALLY did was this: He spent $480 on clothes ("$1.60 per item" he says) that he HOPES will EVENTUALLY sell at an average of $17 per item. With all these facts in mind, this video is a joke.

Thank you for the observation! I really appreciate the advice and feedback. Thanks 😁
In two hours at the bins I can get between 40-50 items."
My question to you (because you are in this business) is: What is the likelyhood that someone can have an average selling price of $32 for a used article of clothing? Doesn't that seem VERY high for a USED article of clothing?
@@Quickdraw1111 It's actually very doable in used clothing. You just have to be pickier about what you sell. But don't think in terms of "every item I get has to be selling for $30...", it's much easier to think in terms of, "
1) I'm going to sell a lot of basic, run of the mill items that are widely available but desirable ($7-$15/profit -- pay $1-$3 and sell for $10 to $20+shipping)
2) I'm going to find some items that were bad buys and I just break even on or only make a few bucks ($0-$6 or even a loss of money--just move them, they take up physical space and mental real estate...not worth hanging onto)
3) I'll get better at finding those desirable items that aren't saturated yet (several daily sales of $20+/profit items---pay $5-$10 and sell for $30-$50+ shipping)
and
4) I'm going to find a few bangers on more rare occasions (pay $1 to $20 and make $30, 50, or even $100/profit.)
The good items will bring your ASP up, but the steady, low profit items are the pulse of your business.
It can go both ways 😁
Hey how long on average does it take for an item to sell?
It takes on average 90 days to sell through my inventory. Thanks for asking! 😁
Once I listed, solo, something over 180 items in a day and I almost died like wtf 😂 profit also from it came within 90days
I never said it way easy, but it's definitely possible! Hard work can really pay off! Keep up the good work and best of luck 😁
You said you bought 300 items and after you sell them you will make $5100 in a day. My question is: are you selling 300 items a day? Is that your average?
Pending the time of the year yes. Thanks for the question! :)
@@vintagebyjacob Ok, lets to the numbers:
*Working 5 days a week (off on the weekends), 4 weeks per month, 12 months per year = 240 working days.
*Let's say you take off 30 days for vacation during the year and do no work during that time. 240 - 30 = 210 working days.
*You say that you make $5100 per day? Okay, let's make it an even $5000 a day (after all, sometimes you sell slightly less, right?)
*210 working days, at $5000 a day = $1,050,000

Thanks for the comment! I really appreciate it. I agree with you that listing 300 items in a day is extremely tough. However, I disagree. It is not impossible. The haul in this specific video did take 2 days to accomplish. Typically, listing 100-200 items is extremely practical. It all comes down to having good inventory/listing systems in place.
