- Speakers are a tricky business!
When you are in market shopping for home theater speakers, people can take you for ride for 2 reasons -
1. You are unaware of the brands
2. You don't know how to choose what's best
If you do not want to fall in this trap, then this video will help you understand how to select between various types and brands of home theater speakers. The top 5 specifications that you can check online, offline, magazines, brochures and in specs sheet which will give you a better idea of what speakers you should buy and which are the best ones!
There are more than 200 hi-fi home theater speaker brands and getting lost and confused is the common symptom when you shop for theater speakers. Every demo room you will visit and audition the systems, may not have the brands or speakers that they are giving in the quote or proposal. And that's when you go online, you end up being clueless as you don't find relevant information about these speakers.
In this video, I share with you the Top 5 specifications along with how to read and understand the speaker specs which will help you make better, well informed decisions.
1. Impedence - Ohms
The lower the impedence in ohms, the more power the speaker will draw from your receiver.
2. Sensitivity - dB (Decibel)
The higher the sensitivity rating, the louder will be the sound from your speaker
3. Frequency - Hz (Hertz)
The frequency response is used to describe the audible frequency range that a loudspeaker can reproduce
4. Power - Watts
The higher the power (watts), the louder and cleaner the speakers will play. No PMPO, only RMS Watts.
5. Dimensions - mm or inches
The dimension of speakers is important when it comes to blending the speakers in your room design. It is important to understand them before making a decision.
Hit like if you have found this information valuable, and don't forget to share this video with your near and dear ones who are in market shopping speakers and are confused!
I guarantee you, that they shall thank you.

Very informative video 🙏
Very helpful video..I watch all your videos.they are really great..what is SNR..SIGNAL TO noise ratio.. because I come accross these words in JBL Soundbar...I m confused whether to buy a Soundbar5.1 or a home theatre withinal a budget of 40k
Hey Sidhartha, Thanks for your kind words.
A better justification to your question for SNR will be-
Higher numbers generally mean a better specification, since there is more useful information (the signal) than there is unwanted data (the noise). And for JBL Bar 5.1 its between 40 to 70dB which is great!
Hindi is best for understanding your all tech words
Informative. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for your good guidance.
Thanks alot :)
Very nice explaination
Thank you so much!
Good work bro
Keep it going. Best wishes 😎
Thanks alot Rishubh!
hello tanmay congrats for another very informative video. I am choosing between monitor audio gold vs b&w 700 series 5.1.2 for my room.. MA speakers are rated at 4 ohm but more wider frequency response vs B&w7s2 and wattage is similar. please suggest what to choose and which is better ?
That’s a tough choice. Go with what pleases your ears. Any chance to audition them together?
Good informative video... Just one suggestion, improve ur noise cancellation in d video. U wud go a long way
Sir Can u explain more about Crossover frequency?
Crossover frequency is the cut off frequency wherein the sound transitions from one speaker to another. For instance, in speakers, the sound transits from the mid range drivers to tweeters at a particular crossover frequency band.
Pl make a vedio on sound bars..
We have done a video on our top picks of soundbars in various categories. You can check it here - ruclips.net/video/XmcAdvpN1uo/видео.html

pls publish a guide how to choose speakers for making a sorround system..to be more precised, if I want to make a 5.1 system of 100 w each, what will be the specification of each channel and what types of speakers should I choose .

Sir I have Yamha RXV 583 which atmos speaker setup are good in good budget
Depends on your room, choice of speakers, current speakers, etc!
Very Imformative videos, have couple of questions.
I have 8 Ohm - Nominal Impedence Speakers (KEF 750) and Amplifire Requirements : 15-150 W. I planning to buy Sony STR-DN1080 which has power output "POWER OUTPUT
165 W (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 1ch driven THD 0.9%)" . Is this compatible? is it okay to have 6 Ohm receiver for 8Ohm Speakers and Watts sre also bit high (165 vs 150)?
Please advise.
Thanks
NIraj
165 Watts for 6 Ohms means for 8 Ohms it will be lesser. If resistance increases power reduces. So should be compatible. All AVRs are compatible for 4,6 & 8 ohms in general. Though some fail at 4 ohms
What is hi-res audio? Does yamaha NS-777 speaker qualify to Hi-Res audio standard. Does JBL Arena 180 qualify to Hi-Res audio standard. Please reply. Thank you in advance.
Please reply to my question. From Mohan Jacob.
Hi Res audio is a term for audio files with greater than 44.1 kHz sample rate or higher than 16-bit audio bit depth. In passive system, the amplifier needs to be compatible for Hi Res Audio and not the speakers 👍🏻😀

instead of tower speakers, should i buy 4 polk T15 book shelf speakers, and one T30 center speaker and one suboofer??
Yeah. Completely fine 👍🏻 They would be good for small and medium size rooms
Can I go with 8 inch surround speakers? And 12 inch center channel speaker?
Yes you can!
Is the Speakers power should be greater than av receivers?
Sir. which.is.best sony.S40 vs Yamaha 1840 music system? Confused in buying
Normally an avr gives almost 1.8 times power to a 4 ohm speaker than to an 8 ohm speaker. Suppose we attach 2 same 8 ohm speakers in parallal, AVR would read it as 4 ohm speaker and give more output, even if divided equally in both the speakers, net output would still be high! So why not? And that would increase spl by 3db, although one has to pay for 2 speakers than one. But what about the law of conservation of energy?
The more output from AVR is going to get divided between the spks, eventually getting lower wattage than what they would have got individually. Coz the power multiplication is less than 2. And with regards to driving the amp at 4 ohms and with max power outputs, it will get heated quickly. So you would definitely need to do this when you have enough head room or you’re using a separate power amp
Boss need old system of Hines series budget is 50k
I’m building a system pool side (indoor) the area is around 2000-2500 sq feet I’m going for a 7.1 setup but I’m confused between bose 251 , bose fs4se and sonus faber aster. So which speaker should i go with it there’s any other better alternative. Purpose is for poolside party and need some kind of water resistance
Thanks
If you are going to have a separate bass unit, then definitely the SF Aster will be great choice.

2. JBL BAR 9.1
3. Onkyo HTS7800

Haha. Thanks for that :) Let's try to make it more simpler next time.
Does 1st and 2nd point will afect sound and clarity of system? I have two option both having 20hz to 20000 hz frequnecy with one having 3ohm woofer snd 4ohm speakes other one 4ohm woofer with 8ohm speaker
Absolutely! And I doubt if 20Hz to 20kHz is possible from one speaker. Something is wrong here as no other speaker from big brands have been able to achieve 20Hz.
