FIRST OFF THANK YOU!!
after finding this video, I ran to Walmart, picked up tape, alcohol, and krylon satin. the shutters turned out awesome!! saved me so much time and hundreds!! thank you tommy!
Sorry your comment was very for two years. Thank you so much. It should last about three years
Thank you for your video instructions. I tried it on our old faded, black shutters just like yours, and it worked great! They look brand new😀
Thank you for watching it!
I did this and my shutters turned out AWESOME! Thank you Tommy, you saved me a lot of time and money over replacing them.
Thank you Kenny. That means a lot! Glad I could help
Thank you Kenny
Thanks Tommy. I was about to take off each shutter, paint and reinstall. But I like your method much better.
Thank You for writing
Great video. Informative but not repetitive or boring and well choreographed.
+Cindy Henry Thank you Cindy for your and comment
I did the exact thing to my shutters. I had to use an extension ladder to do the job, but wow, what a money saver this was. The shutters look new; this is a great tip and video!!
Glad it helped!
I was not expecting that great cloth!
Thank You for watching
You are awesome! THANK YOU FOR SAVING ME OVER TWO HUNDRED! This is my project for the weekend. :-)
Thank You
I sprayed shutters with tremclad. Lots of colours to choose. I was able to push cardboard under the shutters. Eight shutters on a raised ranch required three cans of paint. As you demonstrate you need to start spray on the paper and across the shutter.
That’s a good idea too. Years later I repainted my shutters with a color spray too
Great video, I am getting ready to paint my shutter and will give it a try. I like the hat!
Thanks Scott Its my sun hat!
THANK YOU!! Saved me tons of time & work!👍🏽
Tommy, great video. Man I've been trying to figure this one out. You are the Man!
Glad I could help!
Great job...and a real money saver. Thanks very much!
+Scott Adams Thank you Scott.
thanks I bought the same color as my shutters guess I'll return that and go with the clear. My shutters look to be the same size as yours. about 40 dollars a pair. painting them on the house saves on buying new fasteners a win win situation. great advice from you thanks.
Thank You for the kind comments
I am going to try this this weekend, only I am taking shutters down since they are very easy to take down. What I don't understand, is why does a clear coat over the dull shutters not reflect the chalky, dullness through the clear coat?
I figured if the shutters look shiny when they’re wet, and when they’re dry, there was a way to seal in a glossy look, a clearcoat and make it look good for another few years.
Thanks for the temperature tip.
Thank you Lisa! Wishing you the best
You are welcome, Lisa. Thank you for writing
Good video and very detailed....excellent
Thank You
Great job. Look forward to seeing future projects!
Thanks Eddy!
Good to respond to you five years later
This is a great video. My shutters need help; they're 13 years old and chalky! lol
Thank You Frances
Thank you!
You're welcome!
This tip worked very well! Thanks.
You're welcome!
Thank you for this video.😀
excellent video
Thank You
I can clean the vinyl shutters and then spray the clear polyurethan if I choose not to paint first?
Yes but make sure that they’re dry. And also that there’s not a high humidity levels
Great Tip and how to! Thanks
Was just talking to my wife about this type of project. The original owner selected green shutters which are now very faded. We want to change them to gray. Hopefully this project will turn out just as good as yours. My only concern is green to gray and the end result. Any additional tips?
Reyes Montemayor did you end up getting the project done? Doing the exact same!
Oh gosh I just saw this sorry
Hello Tommy, great and detailed video! Do you think this paint can be used on the exterior door?
I think so!
Thank you for watching and sharing your feedback
Hello,
I would like to do this with my wood shutters. I was going to tape and place paper around the shutters, scrap off the paint and wipe them down after. Do you think it is okay to just use the exterior primer&paint-in-one then a clear coat?
Thank you!
I don't believe that wood shutters where you scrape off loose paint will work with a clear coat to make them look new.
Great instructional video! I'll be sure to tell my friends about this! Kudos!
Thank you for your comment. I work hard on it.
Great Video......South Jersey!
+WizeUp98 Thank you very much!
What sheen do you use? I see this in Gloss and Flat and Satin.
semi gloss
Much easier to take them down to paint rather than taping everything off and worrying about overspray
Sometimes it is, but it can be difficult relocating the holes behind the shutters when you reinstall them
Spray painting in direct sunlight is never a good idea.
Also, you should always mask off any glass areas (like the windows), since you WILL be able to see any overspray.
I did this to my 12 year old badly faded hunter green shutters. It did improve them but there are still some faded areas showing through. Will a second coat make a difference and improve them more? Thanks.
It will but wash and dry them 1st
How many cans of paint do you think I'd need for 12 shutters?
3 cans
Just use La’s totally awesome to clean & restore. Take down shutters u can reach without a ladder. This prep was too much trouble.
Thank you for your comment and suggestion
So no red paint was used only clear?
yes only clear
Love this. Clean and only spray polyurethane semi-gloss works for me
Rattle canning these will fade them in a year or two. Use Sherwin Williams Duration. Remove them and spray
That lasted about 3 years. You are right
Thanks for helping me. #2019
How will this look after 5 years. Has anyone had to redo it??
It will last about 3 years
alot easier to take the shutters off boss
I guess
