  • Welcome to the 25th Rapalje Show! And we had another celebration: The 10.000th subscriber here on this RUclips channel.
    Thank you very much for subscribing to this channel.
    As you see we left a mess while we were celebrating on our Facebook live chat last Tuesday: I've blown a hole in the ceiling!
    And now we're going to clean up the mess I made with this 'gun' and David is going to help me with it.
    Furthermore David is going to play the Dunmore Lassies tune on his low whistle and then explain you how to play it...

    The musicians of Rapalje with their wild hair and medieval kilts create a flaming energy with their enthusiasm and motivation. With sensitive ballads, fiery songs and vivacious Celtic melodies Rapalje electrifies their audience. A concert of Rapalje is like a journey through time with recognizable licentiousness and a rough way of life.

    Wow now thats my favourite tune to play! I just listened to many other versions of this tune by different bands and I really prefer the way you play it. 'Ciunas" have a great interpretation of it as well. After I learned this tune I realised how cool you play it, very nice ornamentations. It will take a while for me to play this tune as amazing as you do. Thanks a lot for this lesson, I hope you do more such videos in the future!

    Love this video. Not uncommon for a fan to post a tutorial but the artist themself? Cool and down to earth people. Can’t wait to try it myself. I’m only about 5-10% Irish based on genetic testing but kinda hoping all of it was poured into whatever makes us play and appreciate music.

    Your music has traveled all the way to Quebec (Canada), bought this particular song on iTunes so I can practice it. I play the high D and low Bb but I'm very new to the low D (my whistle is just like yours) and I find the last hole a bit tricky for my small hands and skinny fingers... higher octave is also something to practice...

    • @RAPALJEmusic
      @RAPALJEmusic  6 лет назад

      You can look at David's fingers, Signature Papeterie, he keeps them straight and spreads his fingers over the holes. Some Low D flutes have hole closer to each other

    • @jocharest5959
      @jocharest5959 6 лет назад +1

      Nice of you to answer my small note... Yes I noticed the fingers ;) My low D is exactly like this one: a Chieftain Thunderbird. Whenever I practice my low D, stretching is not a problem, I'm a pianist and pipe organ player, so I'm used to it. My problem is the size of my fingers, they barely cover the holes, but they do if I positioned my fingers in a very precise way. On slow tunes, it's ok, but when the speed goes up... Ichhhh

    Thank you Rapalje ! I really want to see more video like this :) Especially, could you make the same kind of video with the chords that Dieb (MORE DIEB IN VIDEO :p) played in your Sally garden ? This is so cool :D

    Thanks very much for this video, guys! David, could you show us how to play ''Busindre Reel'' with flute? And, do you have any tips for beginners to train the finger's movements?
    You are always welcome in Brazil!

      @RAPALJEmusic  7 лет назад

      Hello Джанлука Альберті, We had more requests to show how to play that tune on bagpipes. To train the finger's movements you just have to play a lot of tunes. Also makes more fun than to so some boring fingers training

    Hoi Maceal, do you know the best music to start practacing playing the bohran. I have a learning video but I have to reset it ever time I want to practice the last part. So it feels like I am only resetting the video instead of playing.

    • @RAPALJEmusic
      @RAPALJEmusic  7 лет назад

      Hello Lucy Klooster, I started to play the bodhrán with Irish music sessions at the local Irish Pub. Just play the instrument a lot, preferable with other musicians together..

    • @RAPALJEmusic

      It isn't a very fast tune so you have a good chance to play it on a pan flute

    hey, thank you for this. I am already fortunate to be able to read music but i want to learn to play the low whistle - I have a Chieftain v4 low whistle in D. Can you point me to any youtube videos that can help me in particular with ornamentation and other tunes like this one? this is one area of music my family dont know about.

    • @RAPALJEmusic
      @RAPALJEmusic  6 лет назад

      I know that David took out the ornamentation to keep it easier, you can search for it on Google or RUclips

    Leuk filmpje weer en super mooi nummer, luister het vaak en vind het Geweldig hoe David het uitlegt 😃. Kan helaas geen ene muziekinstrument bespelen, ooit blokfluitles op school gehad en kwam niet ver mijn vingers waren toen nog te klein voor de gaten😂. En snap niks van noten lezen😁.

      I am just learning the Low D flute after playing the high D for awhile. The hole reaches are a bit of a challenge because my hands are small. So if I could play it the same speed as David I would be elated...lol. I am practicing every day, and I am determined.

      Make a low D whistle out of PVC. They sound great! I use TWCalc (www.kingsmills.us/twcalc/twcalc.htm) to determine the necessary hole sizes for the PVC I get. www.ggwhistles.com/howto/ is a good tutorial on how to make them.

      RAPALJE Celtic Folk Music Hi Macael, Sally Gardens, Think you need some practice on this one too, (watching your performance on the table with Dieb (joke!) Also please explain the mouth organ tunning you invented (From your website : "He invented a new instrument, the gitouki and complete new tunings for the mouth-organ and the squeezebox. " If you get a few fans having a go at Sally Gardens on the mouth organ you could run a competition for the best player by submitting RUclips videos for you to judge.And a Rapaje T-shirt has a prize! Many thanks and thanks again for the great music and interesting RUclips shows
