Good interview. JR is always easy to talk to and is quite informative and helpful. Based on the number of realty scams taking place lately, I think it would be wise to utilize his services. As always my friend, it was good to see you John.

I miss your Angles location. What are your options other than paying a penalty fee if you’re too sick to go to the immigration office to renew your tourist visa?

So what exactly makes this better then the Balinkbayan yearly visa? It sounds overly difficult to me. Other one just fly out on vacation and come back once a year and it’s pretty much automatic as long as your wife is with you, zero paperwork involved.

That is what I plan to do. It is a good question as to what the advantage is of going through the visa process, over just getting the stamp on entry. I guess that having to always be with your spouse to get it could be an issue for some.

I believe that the main benefit is that you never have to leave unless you want to.

@ I get it now, you just renew or let them know your location once a year…have to pay exit tax if leaving country. It’s definitely better

There is a much easier way to get your spousal visa…depending on where you come from. John came from the US and stayed a year on the balikbayan visa received when he entered. So now he is having to make up for that by going through a long process to be given a permanent residence status.
If you are coming from the US…and married to a Filippino citizen you can look up the nearest Philippine Consulate in your US area. Find out the requirements and file for a 13a spousal visa before you move here. It is a 1 month process. Yes! A one month process for the visa itself. This is assuming you filed a report of marriage when you married your Filipino citizen. If not, file that first. When you arrive your medical things go to the Bureau of Quarantine in Manila first, then on to immigration where you complete the final steps. Then you return in a week or so depending on weather and holiday schedules, to pick up your iCard. You check in once a year in Jan-Feb just to update your status. Good to go. No lawyer needed unless maybe you need help because you overstayed your visa.

@@nicholas6823 unless you get a permanent resident status you will not be able to get a bank account, or own property, and may not be able to get a Philippine driver’s license. A permanent resident can own land, open a banking account in their own name and get a license. I had the visa in my passport showing I would be here for more than 120 days. You can only legally use your English language driver’s license from another country for 90 days.

In reality, being con and taken happens in the United States too.
