  • In this video I explore the sounds and textures you can get with combining a Casio's SK-1 sampling keyboard with a 4-track cassette recorder. The Casio SK-1 was released in 1985 and was one of the first affordable samplers, albeit with a rather limited feature set.

    This was what I was looking for. I wanted to hear how it processed drums. I've been looking at getting one of these for years, so I finally ordered one from ebay. I may even get my analog 4 track out, and try what you did here. This earned my sub. Looking forward to see what other vids you have.

      Very happy to hear you found the video useful and many thanks for the sub! The SK1’s are a lot of fun to use and super crunchy when sampling. I recently picked up its big brother, the SK200 which has a few extra sample slots and tend to be a bit cheaper. Hope you enjoy using your Casio!

    I grew up with the sk1- loved it to bits - had to chuck it in the end - too many keys broke off. Wish id kept it 😃I love that overhead shot of the sk1 tascam and deck - so nice! 👍

      Yeah, those old plastic keys are pretty fragile unfortunately. I’ve got a broken one I keep intending fix. 😊. Glad you like sk1/Tascam combo, it’s a fun setup to play with. 🙏

    Although I had the Yamaha DX7 poster on my wall in 1986... I got the Casio instead LOL a bit more in the price range of a little boy - it was the realistic (radio shack) rebranded version.

    • @wehappyfewmusic
      @wehappyfewmusic  Год назад

      Nice! A far cheaper option than the DX7 and easier to store. 😅
      Was the radio shack one exactly the same as the SK1?

    • @SPINNINGMYWHEELS777
      @SPINNINGMYWHEELS777 Год назад +1

      @@wehappyfewmusic yep exactly the same except the logo is realistic not Casio - I have several of them finding them in thrift stores over the years - I didn't know about the Yamaha Portasound FM synths back then would have been a better option as they had midi in and out and you could shape the sounds not just pre-sets.

    • @wehappyfewmusic
      @wehappyfewmusic  Год назад

      Yeah the midi in and out on the Portasounds must make a big difference.
      On the back of using this SK1 I’ve just picked up a Yamaha vss200, looks like it has quite a few more sampling features than the Casio, so should be fun to play with.
