- We have some time between our completion of Stranger Things season 1-3 so I thought it would be fun to finally see one of the 80s classics that inspired the show. Somehow I've not seen this movie and I was born in the 80s. Well, we are fixing that now! #TheGoonies #StrangerThings #StrangerThings4
The Goonies is a 1985 American adventure comedy film co-produced and directed by Richard Donner from a screenplay by Chris Columbus, based on a story by Steven Spielberg. In the film, kids who live in the "Goon Docks" neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon, attempt to save their homes from foreclosure and, in doing so, they discover an old treasure map that takes them on an adventure to unearth the long-lost fortune of One-Eyed Willy, a legendary 17th-century pirate. During the adventure, they are chased by a family of criminals who want the treasure for themselves.

The Gonnies, is literally nostalgia for every kid is born in the 80s.
Yes! We were so lucky to have Spielberg in the 80’s, he made the best adventure movies for kids!!
I was born in 78 and I grew up on this movie. To this day I love every second of it and it never gets old
Goonies and the monster squad was always my favourite movies to watch as a kid in the 80's.
I'm born in the 90s and this movie was deeply evolved in childhood
I was born in 2005 and this movie is hella nostalgic
I've lost count of how many times I have seen this. They turned the jail at the beginning into a Goonies museum in Astoria. The Stranger Things Season 2 Goonies reference of Bob asking Will if the X is where the treasure is was perfect.
The octopus thing is from a cut scene. There was a giant octopus protecting the ship on an first draft of the movie script.
You can youtube the scene online :)
Goonies is supposed to be a derogatory name. They live in the Goon Docks which is the poorer part of Astoria. The blue-collar workers live there. This one of my favorite all time movies and it still is...I loved your reaction.
That’s what I thought but I wasn’t sure if I misheard!
Fun fact: The reaction the kids give when they see the pirate ship is genuine...the director kept the ship a surprise until they shot the scene
Dude, it is SHOCKING that you hadn’t seen this, but stoked because now we have this great reaction!
They are called “Goonies” because they live in the “Goon Docks,” the fictional poor side of Astoria, Oregon.
I honestly feel that seeing the Goonies is a part of what is needed for a complete childhood!!! Reminds me SOOOOOO much of my childhood when I would ride bikes, hang w/ my friends and go on "adventures" in the woods/forest behind my house!!
The “Hey, you guys!” shout came from the intro to _The Electric Company_ (think _Sesame Street_ but for slightly older kids). Sloth spent all his time watching TV while he was chained up, so it was something he would’ve likely absorbed from hearing at the start of every episode. You can see that intro here: ruclips.net/video/H_iGaQglnKg/видео.html
I'm french and this was my childhood movie. I had the lucky of "first time" watching it again when I first watched the english version, so I have twice the love and jokes for this movie. after years of it being one of my favorite movie of all time, I travelled in the US to see family there, one of my cousine live in Oregon. So, of course, I went to see ALL THE SHOOTING PLACES, including Cannon Beach. When they heard me talking about the movie to my cousine, the hotel staff told us they have DVD of it so you can watch it while seeing the big rock in Cannon Beach. It's my favorite souvenir from this trip
Being born in 1982 I grew up with this film. Loved this film so much as a kid. Still one of my favorites.
The actor who played Chunk (Jeff Cohen) wound up attending Berkeley then UCLA law school and later becoming an entertainment lawyer.
I'm very much aware that not everything holds up after all these years, but I loved the movie as a kid. When I did my semester abroad in the US, I actually stayed not too far from where it was filmed and that just felt destined to me in some way haha
It was great seeing you react to it! (and you are 100% right, these kids were way too loud)
They are called the Goonies because they live in the 'Goon Docks', which is the (fictional) poor part of Astoria.
"Hey, you guys!" is from The Electric Company, an old show on PBS from the '70s, iirc the opening.
I got it. I got it. I don't got it.... Has been said so many times over the years in our house 🤣
So many quotes from this have stuck with us.
Gosh I remember seeing this in the theater for a school trip and rocking out to Cyndi Lauper’s “Good Enough!” I still get chills when I see the pirate ship sail across the sunlit horizon. It takes me right back to my childhood.
Man the '80s was a wonderful decade for movies. Just look at the cast the production team wow.
“The octopus was very scary.” I remember the octopus in the C64 game, but was confused why it would be referenced in the movie until I learned years later that it was a cut scene.
About the Fratellis not hearing the kids - old dirt tunnels like the ones they were in soak up sound like crazy. I once lived at a place with a dirt cellar, you could scream for days and it was barely audible right outside - you had to be right by the door to be heard. Add to this the counterfeiting press making noise...
I saw this in theaters. My brother and sister and I loved it so much, we talked our uncle into letting us watch the following showing.
So glad you’re reacting to this childhood classic. If you haven’t, Please, react to Stand By Me, another terrific movie.
Haven't seen this movie in years, but watching this and hearing the lines and music, it's like wrapping myself up in a warm, nostalgia blanket and being a kid again. This is a special kind of movie.
I'm still sickened by the thought that they put so much effort into building that awesome pirate ship and then scrapped it because no one wanted it.
I always loved the nod to Donner's film Superman from '78 with Sloth and his T-shirt.
I didn't know it was an inspiration to stranger things but I remember watching The Gooneys back in middle school entering middle school it is such am amazing movie I love everything about it and movies just aren't made like this anymore a bummer but love everything about this ...the movie and the reaction 10/10👏👌😄
This was one of my favorite childhood movies! Looking forward to the reaction: )
this has been one of my favorites since it came out when i was 10. i’ve seen it enough times that i can recite all of the dialogue as it plays, and i quote it at least once a week 😂
Jeez Louise, omni.
Have you been living under a rock? Lol.
You need to check out monster squad too. It's like goonies but with Dracula and wolfman (among other monsters).
Many have said that stranger things is like a mix between goonies and monster squad. 👍
I have the original theatre poster - huge - framed In my living room. This was a huge part of my childhood! So glad you watched omn1 :) I don’t know if you liked it very much, but I’m happy you watched it nonetheless. Lol.
Okay, you haven't even started yet and I'm so excited! You're about to have the fricking BEST time!
They kept the ship hidden from the kids so that when they saw it for the first time, it really was the *first* time, so their reactions are genuine.
That movie was so on point for how dangerously insane being a kid in the 80s was. Not how things actually happened, but how you remember it with friends
No, it was pretty insane. I've seen the pictures my patents took of us growing up.
I names my cat Willy after this movie! He’s got one eye and is my special boi 😂
It’s so cheesy, but god I loved this as a kid and still do. I had it recorded off the tv on vhs and I watched it so often I can still remember where some of the as breaks were when I watch it now. I’d have loved a theme park experience of that water chute and cave! Great score too. So much childhood nostalgia with this one. Plus when early he holds the rock to the horizon to match the shapes of the rocks, they did that in the rise of skywalker and I immediately thought of the goonies.
As a kid I saw the movie with the octopus scene in the film. A few years later as friends of mine saw the film I was always confused when they didn’t know about the octopus. I would tell them Data mentions it on the beach, but they never believed me. 🤷🏻♀️
100% nostalgic 4 me. As an adult the runtime is deff too long, but I forgive it for being a favorite as a kid.
Getting ready to watch your video now, but wanted to comment first. Really surprised you've never seen Goonies. Will be great fun watching you react. Bet you find yourself recognizing some dialogue. Goonies has contributed so many iconic lines into the American pop culture lexicon.
16:02 Folks in those stories had lots of chances of turning back. Only they didn't. They kept goin. Because they were holdin onto somthin'.
There is banter with Mikey on the porch, when the investors dropped off papers for the dad to sign…they mentioned being part of the goon docks, maybe it’s Mikey, mispronouncing things, instead of saying boondocks.
I’m so happy you reacted to this! When you replied to a previous comment that you had never seen it before, I was hoping this would be a reaction for the future!!!
Hey you guys! was yelled at the start of the children's TV show The Electric Company.
Also Sean Astin is the adoptive child of the original Gomez of the 60’s Addams family series
I don't know why but I have always felt like everyone has had to see this movie cause I feel like it's always been on tv since the 80s 😂
All time classic!
2 other films I recommend are Lucas (1986) which follows a boy named Lucas trying to get some respect. Another coming of age classic! Winona Ryder's first movie, and she was a cutie when she was younger.
The other film I recommend is called Super 8. Directed by J.J. Abrams. Set in the 60s it follows a group of kids trying to make a movie, when they get involved in a life or death situation! Good story line, and great acting!
Great watch Omn1 nice shout out to Ke Huy quan, great actor.
Great video 👍. I don't know how many times I've seen this movie 😊
Heyyyyy Youuuu Guyyyyyysssss was also used at the beginning of every episode of The Electric Company. A series that aired on PBS throughout parts of the 70’s and 80’s
Dunno how I'd view this movie for the 1st time as an adult as its such a big part of my childhood. Got 2 meet 2 of the Goonies at a comic con in Glasgow couple years ago. Glad you're watching a classic. 🙌
Goonies is so good!! Nostalgic for sure. Awesome reaction!
this was a MAJOR part of my childhood!!! im 44 now, grew UP watching this!!! my friends and i would ride round our small coastal NEW ENGLAND town of Mattapoisett MASSACHUSETTS on our bikes pretending we was the GOONIES hahahah good ole days
YOU'VE NEVER WATCHED GOONIES ??? clicked so fast.
also idk if i missed it while you were running off the names, i probably did lol, but Sean Astin, the main kid Mikey, is now Bob from Stranger Things. RIP Bob. 😔 definitely subbing to your patreon to see that Sandlot reaction. one of my absolute favorites.
You need to watch Stand By Me! Stranger things vibes too!
This was a super cool treat! So much nostalgia!
My brother and I have a list of 80s movies we made my teenage niece watch. She liked this one! Thanks for the reaction….Can you do Stand By Me?
Oh wow I can't believe you hadn't watched this, it's so 80 s I love it. A youuuu guyssss
Yeah, this movie is my childhood.
i recommend reading the novel version for the COMPLETE story and ending!! theres a pretty detailed epilogue that wasnt in the film at all or even filmed in first place!!!!!
yeah because its a novelization of the movie... so dont read such books..
@@Krnhlm good for u.
Why even comment?
Now this is negativity!!!!😳
Samwise and Thanos as brothers
24:27 i know that sounds weird, but i’m pretty sure she meant his lungs lol
Stranger things vibes:)
Thanos was really good in this
Aww. Ssuch a good movie 💚
I grew up on the goonies !
There was a octopus scene that was shot but they cut it out
I had a chance to go to the town this was filmed in. Went to the jailhouse and the house
Goonies was the original Squid Game.
What?! I love the Goonies... sure it has not aged well, but it's still a fun movie. What year were you born in the 80's? I was born in 1981.
...the sandlot is on Patreon? 😱
The biggest surprise is that you're over 30 omg, you look much younger lol
If you havent, you really should also take a look at Stand by Me.
Get. Out. Of. Here. Wooohoooo!!!!
12:46 💀 🦴
What kind of rock did you live under? Were you in a cult? If you need help blink "octopus" in Morse code
How can people watch this reaction 😂 this is like someone being annoying sitting next to me talking crap while I am enjoying watching it. I stopped after one scene. I can’t handle.
🤷♂️Definitely wasn't shitting on the movie at all. Quite enjoyed it. If you don't like reactions, not sure why you'd watch one?
