I was wondering why Grian was on half a heart the entire ending sequence and now I know. He had this plan to be Mumbo's first and final thing he killed by saying "let's high five".
13:34 for anyone who doesn’t know, Grian was at 1/2 a heart the whole ending scene and didn’t eat, when he said “Goodbye Punch Mumbo!” Mumbo did, and killed Grian at the last second of the season. No more Peace Love and Plants. Grian got the last laugh, and it was a perfect ending.
Oh, so this is why he was keeping himself at 1 hp and, when Scar said to choose a trapdoor, he was just kinda looking around like "I don't know which to pick", so he could be closer to Mumbo.
The whole ending of Grian's episode I was like "clearly he is intentionally not eating so he can stay at half a heart, but why!" I just found out. Grian outsmarted everyone!
I'm really hoping that at their intro meeting, before everyone goes to find their 1st area, he just kills someone and says "ah, good to finally do that" or something alike
Technically Mumbo failed the “Peace love and plants” plan since right before the end, he killed Grian with a high five! So in the end, Grian won the war
I completely agree with the choice to end this season early. Hermitcraft fits a hell of a lot better in the caves and cliffs update. The massive mountains will allow for extraordinary mountain bases with more natural generation and the caves will prove to be an incredible opportunity for more extravagant bases and discoveries. I cannot wait for season 9!!!
Completely agree with the statement. That ending got me kind of emotional. Ohh the flashbacks. This is honestly have to be one of the best seasons yet, even if it did feel way to short. ☹️ Awesome job, can’t wait to see you all next season!

Can we just talk about how... he did it. The absolute mad lad didn't 'kill' anything until the very end of the season. Even if it was an accident, I think we can all agree if there is one thing that was going to break the record it was always going to be a Grian. Way to go Mumbo!

This caused Mumbo to end up killing Grian, which ended Mumbo's season-long promise of no killing.
Kinda knew this season was going to be really short when everybody suddenly started rushing to finish their bases despite not actually really using them!
I was honestly more surprised how little Mumbo did with the inside of his base. Just a storage room, nothing else. Maybe that's just me and I'm unfamiliar with mega bases, but I found that strange.
It was a short but sweet season. It does help to have things end on a bigger note rather than the usual gradual fading over time of older seasons. That being said, season six still holds a special place in my heart as the best of both worlds. S6 was extremely long, filled with content and managed to end on Demise which was a big enough end for the season.
I just realized, in Grian's video, he was half a heart, so when Mumbo high fived him at the end, it killed him, thus, breaking the peace love and plants at the very end, well played Grian. That's why Mumbo was so flabbergasted at 13:32.
Sadly a small season but a good one none the less I loved how everyone enhanced there building skills and went outside the comfort zone can’t wait for season 9 and many more
The season started with you getting Scar to build a custom tree in front of Grian's starter base and ended with you building custom trees on Scar's mega base, how the tables have turned! This was the first season of Hermitcraft I ever got to watch as it happened, and I really enjoyed every second of it. I loved the storytelling aspect of Season 8 (though I'll understand if you all decide not to continue it, especially since this was a more experimental season). I can't wait to see what new chaos you'll bring about in Season 9! Also, Grian caused you to kill him, ending your peace love and plants streak right before the season ended, is a good reason to possibly switch to war hate and industry next season. XD
That's hilarious that Grian tricked Mumbo into killing him at the last possible second there at the end when they were falling with that good old high five... Mumbo even shows his statistics in the very last 5 seconds of the video. 🤣
Season 8 is really the shortest season ever, huh? I wasn't sure if this moon saga was wrapping up the season, or preparing for a 1.18 update, but I suppose it makes sense to start a new world for 1.18, considering the generation changes. Anyway, despite it being so short, it has been a pretty amazing season, let's hope Season 9 is even better!
It felt like it was shaping up to be a good season, and then it just ended. It feels rushed and unresolved. I was really hoping they were finding a creative way to update to 1.18, but no. Here’s to a month of watching them build starter farms all over again
Yeah they could have just updated the map, i mean that was the entire point of not leaving the starter continent. And with the biome blend feature it would have been perfect

Yeah I’m kinda disappointed they didn’t go with the route of blowing up the moon, but have chunks of it hit the outside of the island resulting in that being reset for 1.18. This is my first Hermitcraft Season and I’m kinda sad it’s over so soon. Grians base wasn’t even finished :/
The fact I watched Grian with these events and he was walking around with half a heart throughout everything that went down, and then hearing him suggest a final high five was comedy gold as well as the most evil thing I ever saw. It was beautifull.
I can't believe *that* is the reason Grian spent the entire end of his video on half a heart. The moment he said high five I knew what was coming, even though he cut it out of his own video. That's fantastic. Well played, sir. In other news, Mumbo, your builds this season are phenomenal and it's right impressive that you went the entire season without killing anything*. Sticking to your morals until the bitter end, now there's a mustached man you can trust. (Not with a company or moon-killing device, obviously, but still.)
I hope there's two or three map downloads. One from just before blocks permanently floated away. One from just before the moon hit, with all the builds finished and the world devastated by missing blocks. And one of the desolate aftermath, with a skeletal armor stand displays for any hermits who didn't evacuate.
I've rewatched this series a couple times now. This is my favorite HermitCraft season. Between Wonderwall, the sport horses, Tango's tree prank, scar's "starter base", the giant loophole hunt for killing things without having any kills in your stats. Add some *really* amazing bases across the board and a million other things. Simply perfection. Going back through the seasons watching you become a builder is also really fun.
*Mumbo was all about piece love and plants this season , so does that mean his going to a bit like Dr Jekyll next season* *since technically he now has 2 souls and to make up for all the mobs that he didnt kill this season just passed??* 🤔
Suggestion: everybody who was one the boatem escape rocket should at least start distorted in season 9, judging by the fact that they jumped into the void.
would be funnier if they saw the new world below them, thought they were gonna land in the water but they all hit 1x1 islands on the surface of the water
I think this action created the rift. They were trying to escape to another world but instead distorted time. Normal mumbo suddenly became Waffle Mumbo. And other things.
Season 8 feels like nothing in comparison to the long-running season 6, yet so much happens in such a short period of time. I'm looking forward to season 9!
*22:36* I can't believe that *ONLY NOW* I realized that Grian war purposefuly on half a heart for the entire second half of his episode _just to screw over Mumbo._ That guy knows how to do some serious forwards thinking!
I love this season and it’s a shame that it only got to 36 episodes however it really makes sense as the new update changes a lot. Can’t wait for hermitcraft season 9 2022
Honestly, I thought the cut to black was going to have them appear deep underground, in a new cave biome. Like this armageddon was a plot device to introduce the update.
It would have been very interesting if they made it so that the moon crashed into someplace outside the central continent and thus caused the moutains and such to form, openning land for the Hermits to explore, kind of like the New Village in Season 6 when 1.14 came out. Kind of sad season 8 and 7 both ended seemingly overnight, there was so much potential in both still.
This has been the shortest season....but still it packed a real punch. Damn a lot happened in just 36 episodes. Makes sense coz update changes a lot of things. Cant wait to see massive buildings with the new build height in hermitcraft 9. Till then its Sayonara :)
Shoulda known it was coming to an end when Mumbo didn't use his super massive storage room. I just assumed they'd do a Season 6 and move to a new area in the existing world for a bit!
Man, I almost got teary eyed watching the best moments from the season, this season alone kept my mental health from plummeting. It was a constant in my life, all of the Hermitcraft crew and team behind the scenes deserve so much love. Absolutely loved this Goofy season, can't wait for season 9
Watching the montage at the end really hit me hard. This season was three years ago, back when I was a freshman in high school. I remember watching this that year. Now, watching it again gave em so many flashbacks to that year. Time really does fly.
The ruins thing doesn't make any sense, considering the absolute enormous task of ruining things. I tried to "ruin"-ize a build I made once, it took days. And my builds are a fraction as good and as big as these guys make them. It would take weeks to "ruin" their builds. And it would take weeks, if not longer, if it is even possible, to create a mod that does it automatically. That said, I was also surprised. I thought it would just be a new beginning, same server, just different locations. Or something along those lines. I didn't see the actual end of the season coming though.
Yeah, the ramifications of splitting the update in two were massive for content creators. I was honestly super surprised as to how they were going to merge the old into the new, but this is such an easier way to do this.
i was thinking that boatem should have had a mascot. in boatems first attempt, they tried blending the genes of all the members to form a mascot. the mascot being called "good times with jumbo grimoonpulse". gtwjg was going to have, grians eyes, mumbos mustache, scars grin, impulses hair and something about pearl. anyways, something went horribly wrong, and they ended up with a large, 5 headed Frankenstein-like creature that managed to escape the boatem genetics lab. after the incident, they tried cloning the boatem pole and genetically altering it to form a humanoid being, that wears a sailors suit. this new mascot was dubbed "boaty mcboatface". anyways, gtwjg is now like a boogey man like creature, occasionally popping up in hermits videos hobbling around in the background. always in the corner of your eye, disappearing before you can turn your head to get a better look. it also does stuff like cut down bottom parts of trees, place down random bits of redstone, build confusing doors in the middle of nowhere and put 1x1 holes in cliff faces. it always comes back. it keeps transferring to the next season somehow

Well if I'm inferring right then grian says that it won't end which makes sense given all the cliffhangers but I'm getting mixed signals so hopefully it won't be the shortest season ever but maybe probably it will,,,,
@@qwertyuiop.lkjhgfdsa It's going to be season 9. Rumor has it that this seed isn't great for 1.18, and they didn't want to go through the hassle of resetting chunks, so S9 was the best option at that point.
Every hermit launched a video all at the exact same time, all ending their season, they all had different escape methods so if you want to see that you should check the other hermits channels

No other ending could be as cool and different as this one was absolutely nailed it by all hermits and all people involved in season 8 all editors ,mod creators and all lovely viewers made this season alot fun to watch.
In case you guys missed that, Grian intentionally went in with half a heart, no armor, and said "high five for old time's sake", getting Mumbo to punch him. Grian ended Mumbo's no-kill streak seconds before the end of the server. Comedic gold.
I was just thinking, "man I wish they'd start anew in 1.18, that'd be fun to watch." and then here it is, the season finally! Really excited for next season, I just hope its longer.

It's weird cause I feel like season 8 came a bit quickly too. I felt like the time between season 6 and 7 was longer then it was from 7 to 8. (could be wrong) I guess they figured they would need all the time they could get for a filler season so things could actually be completed. As you said waiting 6 months would have been hard, especially for some channels where their main content is hermit craft. It makes sense as to why they went with a giant continent and people grouped up. Made it easier to work and get stuff done when you have people work together. Boatem worked together to make their base one giant one but still their own. The Big Eye Crew pretty much made one sorting system for themselves and made farms which were for them all to use. Made it less hard to get materials and such.
This has to be one of the BEST endings to hermitcraft! Mumbo has developed so much as a builder, and I'm kinda sad to see this season end. Have a good holiday season everyone!
I was expecting a superhuge all interconnected gigabase, tons upon tons of farms, constant projects bringing the episode number to the 100s, but we ender on 36? Wow season 9 gonna start off with a bang
The Hermits went full out on the lore this season and it's absolutely fantastic. I'm a late bloomer and only started watching last season but they all exponentially outdid themselves this season compared to last year, AND LAST SEASON WAS ALSO PHENOMENAL.
you know what would be cool? if in the next season hermits find ruminants of alien looking stuff or something, leading to an overarching story of why the moon was getting bigger. also small pieces of white dusty stone appear across the world. then it's finally found out that the season 9 map is actually the season 8 map millions of years in the future. the dusty rocks are moon framents.

With time, life, and remodeling my parent's house I missed like half of everybody's hermitcraft videos. Thanks to hermitcraft recap I was able to somewhat keep up with what was going on. Im watching all the hermits final/good bye videos. With the new season just getting started I hope I'll be able to keep up with them.
Really disappointed Mumbo never ended with a ‘anyways, here’s wonderwall’ and wonderwall plays as the moon hits the continent😂 But really love what Element Animation did! Can’t wait for Season 9!

Big moon, looming over an innocent town just trying to live, and the fact that the moon got bigger overtime, although it was perceived as it getting closer and closer to boatem.. Like yeah, MM didn’t have mooners or robot CEOS but the story’s main premise is featured in S8, abeit in a in a far less dire tone.
I had my nerves packed when watching Grians video and seeing only half a heart when getting on the ship. I now know why and it was definitely worth it.
The production value of this series has seriously gone up since I’ve started watching. I usually only watch the beginnings and the end episodes since I’m in college now but it’s always wonderful to reminisce. Great work hermits (:

Can't believe this season has ended without Grian creating a war involving the entire server or a messaging system between Grian's and Mumbo's base

I was honestly more surprised how little Mumbo did with the inside of his base. Just a storage room, nothing else. Maybe that's just me and I'm unfamiliar with mega bases, but I found that strange.

It was a short but sweet season. It does help to have things end on a bigger note rather than the usual gradual fading over time of older seasons. That being said, season six still holds a special place in my heart as the best of both worlds. S6 was extremely long, filled with content and managed to end on Demise which was a big enough end for the season.
although late, i agree, season 6 was the first season of hermitcraft i saw/started with and it was a great one too.
The funny part about mumbo’s “diamonds” being on the top of the hour glass is that with the change of gravity it actually made sense.

The season started with you getting Scar to build a custom tree in front of Grian's starter base and ended with you building custom trees on Scar's mega base, how the tables have turned!
This was the first season of Hermitcraft I ever got to watch as it happened, and I really enjoyed every second of it. I loved the storytelling aspect of Season 8 (though I'll understand if you all decide not to continue it, especially since this was a more experimental season). I can't wait to see what new chaos you'll bring about in Season 9!
Also, Grian caused you to kill him, ending your peace love and plants streak right before the season ended, is a good reason to possibly switch to war hate and industry next season. XD

I hope there's two or three map downloads.
One from just before blocks permanently floated away.
One from just before the moon hit, with all the builds finished and the world devastated by missing blocks.
And one of the desolate aftermath, with a skeletal armor stand displays for any hermits who didn't evacuate.
I've rewatched this series a couple times now. This is my favorite HermitCraft season. Between Wonderwall, the sport horses, Tango's tree prank, scar's "starter base", the giant loophole hunt for killing things without having any kills in your stats. Add some *really* amazing bases across the board and a million other things. Simply perfection. Going back through the seasons watching you become a builder is also really fun.
Treesa, the botem pole, the botem hole, the meeting rooms, the end crystal wars, invisible Grian, the wither fight... so much
So sad to see season 8 come to a close so quickly, but it was a blast nonetheless! Super excited for season 9!

I think this action created the rift. They were trying to escape to another world but instead distorted time. Normal mumbo suddenly became Waffle Mumbo. And other things.

It would have been very interesting if they made it so that the moon crashed into someplace outside the central continent and thus caused the moutains and such to form, openning land for the Hermits to explore, kind of like the New Village in Season 6 when 1.14 came out.
Kind of sad season 8 and 7 both ended seemingly overnight, there was so much potential in both still.
This has been the shortest season....but still it packed a real punch. Damn a lot happened in just 36 episodes. Makes sense coz update changes a lot of things. Cant wait to see massive buildings with the new build height in hermitcraft 9. Till then its Sayonara :)

Watching the montage at the end really hit me hard. This season was three years ago, back when I was a freshman in high school. I remember watching this that year. Now, watching it again gave em so many flashbacks to that year. Time really does fly.
I totally thought the moon plot was a mid-season shakeup (moving to the End, coming back to ruins, etc). This episode was a huge surprise~

The ruins thing doesn't make any sense, considering the absolute enormous task of ruining things. I tried to "ruin"-ize a build I made once, it took days. And my builds are a fraction as good and as big as these guys make them. It would take weeks to "ruin" their builds. And it would take weeks, if not longer, if it is even possible, to create a mod that does it automatically.
That said, I was also surprised. I thought it would just be a new beginning, same server, just different locations. Or something along those lines. I didn't see the actual end of the season coming though.

i was thinking that boatem should have had a mascot. in boatems first attempt, they tried blending the genes of all the members to form a mascot. the mascot being called "good times with jumbo grimoonpulse". gtwjg was going to have, grians eyes, mumbos mustache, scars grin, impulses hair and something about pearl. anyways, something went horribly wrong, and they ended up with a large, 5 headed Frankenstein-like creature that managed to escape the boatem genetics lab. after the incident, they tried cloning the boatem pole and genetically altering it to form a humanoid being, that wears a sailors suit. this new mascot was dubbed "boaty mcboatface". anyways, gtwjg is now like a boogey man like creature, occasionally popping up in hermits videos hobbling around in the background. always in the corner of your eye, disappearing before you can turn your head to get a better look. it also does stuff like cut down bottom parts of trees, place down random bits of redstone, build confusing doors in the middle of nowhere and put 1x1 holes in cliff faces. it always comes back. it keeps transferring to the next season somehow

@@qwertyuiop.lkjhgfdsa It's going to be season 9. Rumor has it that this seed isn't great for 1.18, and they didn't want to go through the hassle of resetting chunks, so S9 was the best option at that point.
Every hermit launched a video all at the exact same time, all ending their season, they all had different escape methods so if you want to see that you should check the other hermits channels

It's weird cause I feel like season 8 came a bit quickly too. I felt like the time between season 6 and 7 was longer then it was from 7 to 8. (could be wrong) I guess they figured they would need all the time they could get for a filler season so things could actually be completed. As you said waiting 6 months would have been hard, especially for some channels where their main content is hermit craft. It makes sense as to why they went with a giant continent and people grouped up. Made it easier to work and get stuff done when you have people work together. Boatem worked together to make their base one giant one but still their own. The Big Eye Crew pretty much made one sorting system for themselves and made farms which were for them all to use. Made it less hard to get materials and such.
This has to be one of the BEST endings to hermitcraft! Mumbo has developed so much as a builder, and I'm kinda sad to see this season end. Have a good holiday season everyone!

The Hermits went full out on the lore this season and it's absolutely fantastic. I'm a late bloomer and only started watching last season but they all exponentially outdid themselves this season compared to last year, AND LAST SEASON WAS ALSO PHENOMENAL.
you know what would be cool? if in the next season hermits find ruminants of alien looking stuff or something, leading to an overarching story of why the moon was getting bigger. also small pieces of white dusty stone appear across the world. then it's finally found out that the season 9 map is actually the season 8 map millions of years in the future. the dusty rocks are moon framents.

With time, life, and remodeling my parent's house I missed like half of everybody's hermitcraft videos. Thanks to hermitcraft recap I was able to somewhat keep up with what was going on. Im watching all the hermits final/good bye videos. With the new season just getting started I hope I'll be able to keep up with them.
