alexinabox I don't know what Moffat did against it, but in short, it was the last story of the second Doctor and was the one that introduced the Time-Lords and Gallifrey. Before then there was only the Doctor and that one other one in a forgotten Hartnell story.

Paul King and Avengers and Infinity war had the 2 best villains as the threat bringing everyone together and the Dallas are or would be if they didn't lose every single bloody time in every season just give them a tv show that makes them look threatening

The thing about Hell Bent is that the first half of it was really, really, REALLY good. His homecoming. His disinterest in dealing with any Time Lord apart from Rassilon. The soldiers siding with him and ousting Rassilon. It was all MAGNIFICANT. Had the episode ended with Rassilon and the council leaving and maybe some cleaning up, THAT would have been a work of art. It was just literally everything involving Clara that fucked it up.

I must confess it was with a sense of relief that I saw the end of River Song's arc. The whole season feeling like tying her into the Tardis in as many, and as convoluted ways as possible. She killed the Doctor, She saved the Doctor, She married the Doctor, she was his companions' child! From Big Bang to Wedding of River Song, I was gritting my teeth and waiting for it to return to form. In my opinion only a couple of good episodes in that entire season.

I love how well-thought-out this ranking was. Even with the episodes you didn't like you had intelligent writing-based qualms, and when those were fixed you rewarded the stories by ranking them higher. The way you presented everything almost made me want to through away my list! Haha. Almost! I probably would've put Last of the Time Lords higher and Name of the Doctor lower, but I've never considered the list with only final episodes in mind. Journey's End is one of my all-time favorite episodes, but Doomsday's goodbye scene makes those two fight for first place. World Enough and Time is amazing, and I thought the commentary of being trapped in a skin that people are afraid was amazing!

What a hard thing to do; especially since I don't hate "Hell Bent" as much as others seem to.
I think what also makes it difficult is judging the finales just as stand alones. For example, I kinda like the "Last of the Timelords" as it is, but I REALLY enjoy the series three 3-part finale that included "Utopia" and "The Sound of Drums". Together they're one of my all time favorite WHO end of series episodes.

YES ME TOO!!!! The Sound of Drums is my favorite episode and the 3 parter as a whole are my top 3 episodes of all time!! I know Last of the Timelords has major issues and I understand why people don't like John Simm's master, but I love him. And that scene where he releases the toclafane and yells "HERE. COME. THE DRUMS!!!" and then the music starts and goes HARD while we see the paradox machine pulsing and the toclafane descending...holy shit it gets me fist pumping EVERY TIME!!!!!

  • @WingyMedia

Interesting rankings, Hell Bent had to be last, if only it could be lower 😂 surprised about Doctor Falls being your favourite, I wouldn't put it in my top 5 and I think it's because I can't separate it from World Enough And Time. Plus, I hate the ending with the plot device puddle girl coming back for what felt to me like no reason other than Bill must live. I'd say Parting Of The Ways is my number 1

    • @enigmatickendo
      @enigmatickendo 6 лет назад +4

I didn't mind that. I thought it was interesting enough, and I enjoyed The Pilot enough such that I still felt it at the end. Plus, Bill didn't live. Bill is dead, she's just in this like, weird afterlife thing, but I'm pretty sure it's essentially more of a caricature of Bill.

    • @CouncilofGeeks
      @CouncilofGeeks  6 лет назад +11

While I don’t love the Heather thing it didn’t derail the episode for me. Though I get it bugged some other folks way more.

    • @Ben-vf5gk
      @Ben-vf5gk 6 лет назад +5

It's not perfect and I recognise its flaws but I still love it. Everything I either love or like is in it; Capaldi, Bill, Nardole, Missy, John Simm's Master, the Mondasion Cybermen. Really wish it'd been his last story.

    • @rog2224
      @rog2224 6 лет назад +5

Bill was never 'dead'. The point of Cyber conversion is that the subject is, within some pretty bleak parameters, preserved.

    • @Ben-vf5gk
      @Ben-vf5gk 6 лет назад +1

True, but part of what's awful about Cyber conversion is that it cant be undone. Heather saving Bill unfortunately undermines it. Still enjoy the episode though.

Journey’s end will always be my favorite, Donna’s “death” tears me up every single time, but for me at very end the Doctor is talking to Wilf (sp?) it is pouring rain and he asked the doctor “what about you? I mean what about all your friends” and he replies “The all have someone else but that’s fine... I am fine” it shows that this hero that saves so many worlds is ultimately alone it crushing and powerful

Finally, someone who agrees with me on how brilliant Richard E Grant is as the Great Intelligence!
For me, The Name of the Doctor, Death in Heaven and The Doctor Falls are the best, mainly as, for me, their plots are a bit more focused and more engaging. Rose and the Doctor's goodbye in Doomsday was a bit drawn out for me

    10) Hell Bent
    9) The Wedding of River Song
    8) The Name of the Doctor
    7) Last of the Time Lords
    6) The Big Bang
    5) Doomsday
    4) Death in Heaven
    3) Journey's End
    2) The Doctor Falls
    1) The Parting of the Ways
I only really like my top 4 and find the rest a little harder to rank. Every time I think of a ranking for NuWho finales, I'm reminded of how much they seem to fail and aren't very good.

  • @Morri312

    For whoever cares...here's mine
    10. Hell Bent
    9. Wedding of River Song
    8. The Big Bang
    7. Death in Heaven
    6. The Name of the Doctor
    5. Journey's End
    4. The Parting of the Ways
    3. The Last of the Time Lords
    2. Doomsday
    1. The Doctor Falls
So quite Similar, I'm a sucker for Russel T Davies / Tennent Era, and not fond of Smith. But I loved The Doctor Falls and Last of the time lords gets the top 3 spot just because of the Death of the Master and the way it was handled, loved it!

  • @tobin5378

The Doctor Falls feels like a scene transition, but physical, It feels like you're holding on to something, and then it fades, it goes away because it's the doctor without hope. By the end he's completely willing, and almost hoping, to die, it's so heartbreaking but at the same time beautiful at the same time, my favourite season finale by far

I agree wish that Doctor Falls was Capaldi finale.
    My finale
    10. Doomsday (S2)
    9. Wedding of River Song (S6)
    8. Journey's End (S4)
    7. Hell Bent (S9)
    6. Name of the Doctor (S7)
    5. Last of the Time Lord's (S3)
    4. Parting of the Ways (S1)
    3. Death in Heaven (S8)
    2. The Big Bang (S5)
    1. The Doctor Falls (S10)
Doomsday surprised me by being last but don't like the big button reset similar to Journeys End and Rose exit was undermined by her return.
Hell Bent is higher as I like the Doctor and Clara in the restaurant scenes and love Time Lords
Maybe cover ranking Regeneration story's for a list maybe even with classic doctors?

Just for Fun the classic Finales:9- The Time Monster: Mostly terrible, it's three most memorable features, something called a Tomtit, Naked Sergeant Benton and a Massive Cleavage.
3- The War Machines: Boring and rather Dated.
19- Time Flight: Imagination out stretches the budget
16- The Armaggedon Factor: pretty meh, first time the Doctor is called There Sigma.
21- Twin Dilemma: bad but not as much as everyone claims, Colin Baker is easily the Best part.
12- Revenge of the Cybermen: Cheap and Crap.
20- The Kings Demon: Bland filler.
18- Logopolis: Bar the regeneration angle, just Boring.
11- Planet of the Spiders: Funny moments but rather Slow
15- Invasion of Time: Easily the worst looking sontarans, another nail in the coffin of the time Lord's dignity, terrible exit for leela.
5- Wheel in Space: Underrated, but with terrible Cybermen
24- Dragonfire: Cheesy but fun with one of the dumbest cliffhangers in the shows history.
17- Shada: A rare gem of Graham Williams era. Doug Adams at his best.
13- The seeds of doom: fairly decent remake of the thing from another world.
10- The Green Death: Some great effects and characters moments, a terrible green screen and the 2nd coolest Dr who villain voice.
1- Reign of Terror: Decent pure historical.
14- Talons of Wein Chiang: Classic, if a bit racist
23- The Ulimate Foe: Some great moments but part 2 is very messy because of Bob Holmes' death.
22- Revelation of the Daleks: Creepy little body horror story.
4- Evil of the Daleks: Great, if a little overrated.
8- The Daemons: Great performances all around, silly looking monsters.
2- The time Meddler: Really funny.
6- The War Games: Kinda long but Part 10 makes up for it.
7- Inferno: excellent dark story almost ruined by crap monsters.
26- Survival: Perfect send off for the Show.
25- The Greatest Show in the Galaxy: Underrated Classic, a metaphor for the show itself.

    My List:
    10. Hell Bent (Of Course)
    9. The Wedding of River Song
    8. Death in Heaven
    7. The Big Bang
    6. Doomsday
    5. Journey's End
    4. Last of the Time Lords (It only got this far because that three-parter is my favourite story of all time)
    3. The Name of the Doctor
    2. The Parting of the Ways
    1. The Doctor Falls
I see why people think The Doctor falls shouldve been Capaldi's final story but I love Twice Upon a Time because Capaldi and Bradley worked really well together, the story as a whole was great (in my opinion) and, well, The First Doctor is my Doctor

You know, it's funny that I'm here because I generally have the opposite feeling about finales. To me, it's never about the destination, it's about the journey, especially with Doctor Who. A big part of the reason for this is The Wedding of River Song and partially The Big Bang. The stakes were so high in both cases that they held no kind of suspense. For whatever reason, Moffatt was obsessed with the Doctor dying and not regenerating.
Just stop. That's not going to happen. At that point he was only creating a story arc that would end with some kind of contrived and disappointing resolution. RTD had the same obsession with destroying Earth, but he was able to pull of some decent resolutions even if they had no real suspense. I'm hoping the Chibnall will be able to dial back the stakes and allow the audience to feel all parts of the story.

    • @TheMagicDragonHD
      @TheMagicDragonHD 6 лет назад

What decent resolutions? The RTD-finales always ended with a cheap deus ex machina.

Doctor Who fans love a list! (and bashing Hell Bent. Because it deserves it!)
Nobody asked for it, but here are my rankings:
    1. Parting of the Ways
    2. Doomsday
    3. The Doctor Falls
    4. Last of the Time Lords (I love it, but sadly its silly 'Doctor as Jesus' ending undermines it a bit. The rest of it so superb though - if it wasn't for that it might be my number one!)
    5. Death in Heaven
    6. Journey's End (never that fond of this one, it was always a bit *too* much for me. Donna's exit was heartbreaking though!)
    7. Name of the Doctor
    8. Wedding of River Song
    9. The Big Bang
    10. Hell Bent (not even canon in my mind...)

Unsurprisingly my list is very different to yours, showing as usual we look for different things in a show we both love, my list with a brief reason for my choice.
10; Hell Bent; yeah can't disagree that this is a the bottom for all those reasons and more
9; Wedding of River Song; a clustered mess
8 The Name of the Doctor; you almost had me rethinking on this one but too many things in it that doesn't work for me
7 Last of the Time Lords; I really don't like it when they just undo a story like that
6 Death in Heaven; Missy is amazing, but the Cybermen aren't used interestingly and cyberbrig is disrespectful imo
5 Doomsday; Daleks vs Cybermen would be so much better if it wasn't just the Daleks owning them
4 The Doctor Falls; some incredible moments, but I really don't like the Doctor being in a gun fight in the end
3 Big Bang; I take all your points on board here but while it does have so many problems it's got a gung ho quality that keeps me invested
2 Journey's End; it's a big ol' plan the Daleks have and it really nearly works, a few niggles stop it from being a five star classic, but it's still a great closing for four years worth of characters.
1 Parting of the Ways; I'm sorry but I unashamedly love this one.

Interesting list. I wouldn't separate the two parts because I think they go hand in hand with each other. Other than that, there's only really one ranking that really surprised me. The Big Bang down at #8 is shocking tbh, but you provided some good reasons.

Hell bent isn’t a two-parter with heaven sent anyway. Hell bent just picked up where heaven sent left off, doesn’t make it a two-parter. It’s the same reason turn left isn’t a three-parter with the stolen earth and journeys end.

    10. The Wedding of River Song
    9. The Name of the Doctor

    5. Hell Bent
    4. Death in Heaven
    3. The Doctor Falls
    2. The Big Bang
    1. The Parting of the Ways
Looking at that list, what strikes me is that the top three are the only ones I rewatch regularly. For me the finales have a tendency to feel slightly hollow due to the showrunner’s knowledge that people will be tuning in for event television, so they can’t play them as straight drama like they can with earlier episodes in the run. The top three, however, manage to strike a perfect balance between stakes and subtext, story and character.

10:53 For me, Journey’s end would have to be much lower on that list. The fact that none of the companions other than Donner did much; Jack faked his death to sneak around the Crucible, only to get caught and not really have a meaningful story, Martha holds the Earth to ransom, only for the Daleks to teleport her up to the Crucible because they didn’t want to deal with that plot, Mickey and Sara surrender only to not really help that much. All so that Donner could accidentally her way into being able to defeat the Daleks all on her own, and would it not have been much better to have the companions work together in a meaningful way which would’ve justified bringing them all back a lot better? Although it’s meant to look like that’s what they’re doing, it isn’t really if you think about it, it’s really just all of them getting captured and Donner saving them all. And the emotion of sending Donner off could’ve still been done without having her Deus ex-mackina.

    Here's mine:
    1) The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang - A great culmination of the series and ties it up brilliantly.
    2) Heaven Sent/Hell Bent - HS is one of the best episodes. I'm on the side of liking HB, so this is why it's up so high.
    3) World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls - The best cybermen story in new who.
    4) Bad Wolf/The Partings of the Ways - The daleks were at their best in series 1 and this story is no exception.
    5) Army of Ghosts/Doomsday - Bit fan service-y with the daleks and cybermen meeting, but nevertheless entertaining.
    6) The Name of the Doctor - Ties the series and the impossible girl story arc up ok.
    7) Dark Water/Death in Heaven - Very dark for doctor who. Missy is great. The cybermen are a bit redundant.
    8) The Stolen Earth/Journey's End - Seeing all the companions back is great and fun, but when you actually think about the story a whole load of problems occur. Why were there buttons (which daleks would not be able to use, but humans could) that could destroy their entire fleet in the vault? If the reality bomb destroys all realities, then surely there's a reality where davros succeed and therefore destroy all realities (including the doctor's).
    9) Utopia/The Sound of Drums/The Last of the Time Lords - First part great. Second part good. Third part bad and lets it down.
    10) The Wedding of River Song - Bit messy and not really a satisfying conclusion to the series.

To be fair, The Big Bang did have some ramifications. The TARDIS explosion was supposedly the reason that the crack appeared throughout the Doctor's timeline, which set up the finale for Matt Smith's Doctor.

    1. The Doctor Falls (even though Bill’s ending is awful, the rest is amazing beyond belief)
    2. The Parting of the Ways (I love Bad Wolf though)
    3. Death in Heaven (I don’t really find the issue you named to be an issue)
    4. Doomsday (would be #3 if put with Army of Ghosts, which I think is significantly better)
    5. The Big Bang (I have exactly the same issues with it that you do, but at least it was very well executed and always entertaining)
    6. Journey’s End (Way too happy, way too soon. Plus Rose did not deserve her clone Doctor and that is about as bad as Clara’s fate.)
    7. The Wedding of River Song (I agree with your analysis)
    8. The Name of the Doctor (This is literally a story composed entirely of gimmicks that go absolutely nowhere within the episode, especially the utterly pointless Whisper Men. In consequence, it’s kind of boring. The only things I find specifically positive about it are a) Strax’s regression - it’s about time Sontarans were scary again! - and b) the genuinely touching, albeit confusing in its implications, last scene between Eleven and River. That one’s still a gimmick, though.
    9. Hell Bent (I also hate Clara’s ending, but I see how the Doctor went where he did)
    10. Last of the Time Lords (I can forgive a lot, but that ending made literally no sense. Despite how good the Master is, and how much I love Martha’s exit, this is the absolute WORST resolution to a story that Doctor Who has ever seen. Yes, worse than Timelash.)

  • @AmaranthOriginal
    @AmaranthOriginal 6 лет назад +1

I love Journey's End, but I hate what they did to Donna. The show repeats the line "traveling in the TARDIS makes you better" multiple times, but Dnna's the first time we actually see that. She's the first companion to really get an arc tied to the series. Mickey grows offscreen, Martha's leaving mostly comes from the last episode alone, and Rose is still the kind of person who would make out with another dude in front of the man she "loves,." but Donna had a chance to grow...and they took it all away. It's sad, but it's also just narrative bad as far as I'm concerned.
Despite this complaint, it would be towards the top of my list.

My biggest nit-pick with Doomsday, although like you I did like it, was that Pete Tyler shouldn’t have been able to save Rose, while I don’t disagree with it thematically, it doesn’t make sense logically, he shouldn’t have been able to know that he’d have to save her, and when he does he’s able to stand and somehow not get affected by the void which is sucking her in and yet it doesn’t affect him even though it should’ve been sucking him in at the same rate it sucks her in.

My 12 (I've included end of time part2 and time of the doctor because they seem like a finale as a pose to a Christmas special)
    12: Hell bent (obviously)
11: Last of The Time Lords (I think the whole airship thing is just retarded and the story rescuing the doctor is pathetic)
10: The Time Of The Doctor (too many plot holes and stretched for too long)
9: Death In Heaven (the only reason it's not lower is because Peter Capaldi and Michelle Gomez were AMAZING!)
8: The Parting Of Ways (Pretty average, slightly overrated)
7: The Wedding Of River Song (Matt Smith was just way too good here, a few plot holes but I think the tesalector was explained perfectly and I really don't understand why so many people hate this)
6: Doomsday (Quite overrated, I really hate the 10 and rose bullshit but the cyber men and daleks were fantastic)
5: The Big Bang (Not quite sure how the doctor is resurrected and bootstrap Paradox is what reboots the universe, but apart from that it's a good episode)
4: Journey's End: (Good episode, I like the plots conjoined and the reality bomb is so clever, only reason it's not higher is the cringe at the end and Rose and 10 bullshit AGAIN!)
3: The End Of Time: (Absolutely amazing. I finally accept John Simm as the master and he is so good in this. Gallifrey bring evil is also so clever and the Doctor's four knocks is resolved beautifully, only thing I don't like is how RTD sabotages Matt Smith)
2: The Doctor Falls: (Both masters are used a bit too little, Bill should've stayed converted but apart from that it is a 10/10)
1: The Name Of The Doctor: (10/10 all round. Intro was great. Conference call was interesting and mysterious. Trenslaw was used perfectly. R.E.G acted beautifully as the great intelligence. And that amazing cliffhanger and the line "but not in the name of the Doctor" gets me every time. One problem. How did they get out of The Doctor's timestream

I liked the moments in Hell Bent where the Doctor is willing to risk the entire universe's well-being for Clara's life because it shows how unhealthy the relationship between the Doctor and Clara is. He wants her alive more than she wants to live. Even though I didn't like the fact that Clara is still alive (for now), I liked the fact that she didn't travel with the Doctor anymore, because together, they bring about utter chaos, just like Missy intended.

I loved Hell Bent. It was the most logical conclusion to what the Doctor was doing, that was, outlasting the Time Lords without giving anything away. After billions of years, he is going to be a bent out of shape.. Not liking how it went, based on the death not lasting is not a valid defense, IMHO.
We never spend any time on Gallifrey, except maybe the trial. No matter where we see it, all we have ever learned from going to Gallifrey in all the years, Classic and Nu Who, we just relearn that the Time Lords were jerks of the worst kind. That makes Hell Bent extremely consistent with what happens on Gallifrey over the decades.

I hated Hell Bent. It's main purpose is completely breakdown what is left of the Doctor's character, which is also the point of that Series, to take away everything that makes the Doctor the Doctor. The problem with this idea is that, if you take away the Doctor, then you are just left with 'Who' and you lose a core part of the show.
"After billions of years, he is going to be a bent out of shape.."
Except he hasn't been in the dial for Billions of Years, or atleast, that copy hadn't been. Even if you take into account that it is inferred the Doctor does kinda remember all the other times round, I can think of several stories where the Doctor is put into worst positions and still doesn't kill people and break time to resurrect people. Caves of Androzani for example, he doesn't kill anyone there. Terror Firma (audio) he goes through some serious garbage, yet he doesn't kill anyone.
"Not liking how it went, based on the death not lasting is not a valid defense..."
Actually, I'd say it is, especially as this is about the thousandth time Moffat has pulled the resurrection card and people were tired of it. Character resurrection is fine once in a Blue Moon, but when you pull it constantly to create fake drama then it gets boring and we lose all the tension and grief of a death.
"No matter where we see it, all we have ever learned from going to Gallifrey in all the years, Classic and Nu Who, we just relearn that the Time Lords were jerks of the worst kind."
Some Timelords, yeah, especially, but what about the General, who helps the Doctor over throw Rassilon, only to be shot and killed (well, that version of them) by the Doctor later because of the "dismantle the Doctor" stuff. Or Romana, a popular companion, who was a Timelord. Then you have other Timelords who helped the Doctor in other stories.
I'm assuming you are trying to make the point that another story centred around Gallifrey would just be retreading the same ground. I disagree. I think there is still stuff you can do on Gallifrey that doesn't have the motto of "Timelords are for the most part jerks". You can do something different with it. And even if they had just done a story about the Timelords being jerks like in the classics, it still would have been new for NuWho audiences, and would have re-established the Doctor's original relationship with them for a new audience. I think retreading ground would have been better than what we got.
If this isn't written the best, I'm sorry, but at this point I've written why I have written stuff like this so many times now I really just wanted to finish this as quickly as possible.

Yeah, I suppose Series 10 had the best close-out of them all. Unfortunately most series finales do suffer from the problem of "Setting up a big thing and then having that big thing be completely inconsequential", which is why I personally hate episodes like Big Bang (not theory), The Wedding of River Song, The Last of the Time Lords etc. I actually kinda wish that modern Who continued the trend of 70's Who, where they didn't really have "Series finales" and individual series would end on a random episode that is no more epic than the previous ones. Although I get that that would probably negatively affect the ratings and stuff, so I guess we'll have to make do.
But yeah, good list, I can get behind most of this stuff (except for Hell Bent and Doomsday, cause I love Clara and dislike Rose)

    • @rubix2980
      @rubix2980 6 лет назад +2

Yeehhh Finally someone who dislikes Rose and likes Clara !!. Rose just gets on my nerves all the time. I don't mind her "Bad Wolf" thing but the fact that she got the doctor to love her romantically because it doesn't make much sense to me and it's not really the fact that he "loved" her or she "loved" him (We got that one before and after her so yeah it's fine) but the fact that they made it a plot. I'm actually glad that we didn't get this (at least not achieved) with the other companions.

Like most of Series 5, I never got the love for The Pandorica Opens & The Big Bang. It is basically a giant stalling tactic where the TARDIS crew get into trouble then out again but nothing substantial happens. The team up of villains is unexplored whilst the idea of what the Pandorica was was both the most obvious thing and just annoying to watch no one consider that option. Amy and the whole fairy tale theme she has going on is I dislike strongly in general so focusing on that was a poor choice. It doesn’t build well in the future either - this two parter is part of the Silence’s plan before even seeing them then the next series opener massacres them. It just doesn’t feel like it is substantial enough for the level of power that is supposedly being dealt with.
Of course, Hell Bent is a phenomenal masterpiece but I have discussed that at length before.
World Enough and Time & The Doctor Falls works surprisingly effectively considering how thoroughly meh Series 10 and Bill had been up to that point.

If the world doesn’t go back, of those people aren’t saved in Last of the Time Lords then it no longer becomes our earth and we lose our connection with it. I think we need to feel that any of this is possible and there’s a sense of reality about it and if becomes rather earth where so many died then I think we’d lose something very important to what Doctor Who is.

Great job rankin’ the finales of Doctor Who, man. I have some favorites. So lemme list them
At Number one, basically its End of Time Part 2The Doctor saves the universe from the Time Lords, the Master sacrifices himself to help him, the interactions between Wilfred and Ten, Rassilon and the epic final moments of the Tenth Doctor as the regeneration and transition to Matt Smith begins. Vale Dacem, great score ever!
Number two, Parting of the WaysA really absolutely fantastic battle with the Daleks, the transition from Eccleston to Tennant, basically everything.
Number 3, World Enough and Time/The Doctor FallsI could say it’s a semi finale, but still. TWO MASTERS? The Doctor actually fighting the Cybermen, what a freaking epic way to begin closing out the Capaldi era. AMAZING! WOOOOOOOO!
Number 4, Stolen Earth and Journey’s EndDaleks, Davros, Donna saving the day, a big crossover team up, that regeneration and the Metacrisis Doctor. Whoa, that blew my mind when I saw it all.
Number 5, Pandorica and Big BangEpic S5 finale, great way to close out Matt Smith’s first season. The universe being saved and the Doctor going out with newlyweds. That was a change of pace. I LOVED IT!
Number 6, Name of the DoctorThat was awesome. I did like how they executed the 11th Doctor’s regeneration. Not complaining but the John Hurt War Doc and the Stolen Earth regeneration do throw things out of sync with regenerations and incarnations of the Doctor. I’m glad the Doctor did not meet his end on Trenzalore
Number 7, DoomsdayDaleks vs Cybermen? They should have done that in the Classic Era. But still, very nice. Victory at the cost of losing Rose Tyler to another dimension, it was good.
Number 8, Twice Upon a TimeNow that really closed season ten of New Who out, according to some folks. We had an excellent team up between the First Doctor and the Twelfth Doctor, Rusty coming back? I never saw Rusty’s Return coming at all. The final moments before the regeneration, I loved that speech. After the regeneration? It was okay, little disappointed...
Number 9, Hell BentI handled it well. Seeing Gallefrey was cool. I was okay with Clara coming back, I liked her.
Number 10, Death in Heaven Loved the Master
Number 11 and 12, Name of the Doctor and Last of the Time LordsI loved Name of the Doctor, the Great Intelligence was a threat. As for LotTL, the confrontation with the Master rocked.
Those are my favorites for the most part. Thanks for the vid, Nathan
See you next time for another Doctor Who!

I think The Pilot acted as the finale to what I think of as its own season, the Capaldi specials. I think every Doctor gets their own mini-season (for the 11th Doctor it's the ____ of the Doctor specials, for the 10th Doctor it's the specials in between series 4 and 5, and for the 9th Doctor it's just Series 1),
and I think the episodes from Face the Raven to The Pilot are the 12th Doctor's own series. They portray the Doctor's arc of dealing with the loss of two different companions and trying to move on from that. The Pilot is the finale because it ends his arc by letting another companion into his life and no longer travelling alone (although I guess Nardole counts as a main companion during the second half).

For me it has to be Doomsday, I find this to be the perfect ending to a very mixed season. The reason this episode takes #1 for me is that devastating ending with Rose and the Doctor trapped away from each other. This ending absolutely kills me every time I watch it, such a horrible tragedy that brings tears to my eyes. I just love it. I also love your pick of The Doctor Falls, which is definitely one of my favorites.

  • @liamwilliams6651

I will include the two parters From worse to best
    Wedding of River Song
    Dark Water/Death in Heaven
    Face the Raven/Heaven Sent/Hell Bent
    The Stolen Earth/Journeys End
    The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang
    The Name of the Doctor
    Army of Ghosts/Doomsday
World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls
Utopia/The Sound of Drums/The Last of the Timelords
Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways
Face the raven and heaven sent keep hell bent from the bottom but that’s as far from the bottom I could keep it from. I think bad wolf is the perfect setup with Parting of the Ways being the perfect conclusion. Army of ghosts and doomsday would be number 1 if instead of the soapesque goodbye we got on the beach we could of got more scenes of the battle, for me the image of them with the wall between them was enough.

You had me right up until The Name of The Doctor, one of my most hated episodes. They turned Clara into all the Doctor's companions, making her solely instrumental in saving his life over...and over...and over again. I despised this so much, almost more than I despise River Song.

  • @travismaraj5512

I must be one of the few people that hates Journey’s End; it’s definitely my #10. The way they wrapped up Donna’s story was tragic and brilliant but I can’t stand the rest of the episode. It’s too bombastic and melodramatic and they threw in every character just for the sake of throwing them in. This was RTD at his most self indulgent.
#9 to #3 - Too lazy to figure out my exact ranking for these right now
#2 - The Parting of the Ways. This one wins best Nu-Who regeneration story on a technicality, but technicality or not it’s still amazing. It wraps up the 9th Doctor’s story so well and the regeneration scene is one of my favourite moments in the show. What’s really awesome is how The Day of The Doctor re-contextualizes Nine’s decision to give in to the Daleks. Of course he wouldn’t kill the humans to destroy the Daleks because he didn’t kill the Time Lords to destroy the Daleks either.
#1 - And the technicality is that The Doctor Falls isn’t technically Capaldi’s regeneration episode. This also does a magnificent job at summing an incarnation’s tenure. I love Capaldi’s “be kind” speech and the interaction between Missy and the Master is brilliant.

Interesting list, as ever, I'd potentially disagree about "Twice Upon A Time" not being a suitable finish for Capaldi; but life would be exceptionally boring if we all thought the same.
There are three bits I'd like to add, more "meta" data than anything really pertinent - and they may well actually be urban legends rather than fact.
    1) DW is contractually obliged to bring the Daleks back every year, otherwise they no longer have the rights to use them at all.
    2) Doomsday is the only episode in the entire (televised) history of DW in which the Daleks and Cybermen meet.
    3) The Doctor Dances is the only episode in DW history in which no one dies, hence the Doctor Dances with joy at the end.

While I certainly completely agree with you about Hell Bent, it's not something that makes me actually angry. It's a mess, it throws away the wonderful buildup of that season, but I don't think it's really worth that much.
I'm not saying that the show could never make me angry, but I still got Face the Raven and Heaven Sent, which taken by themselves are two of my absolute favourite stories in Doctor Who... Hell Bent might screw them up, but it doesn't take them away from me.
