  • The historic town of Kalkan is situated on the Lycian coast between Patara and Kaş in the Antalya Province of Turkey.
Kalkan is about a 2 hour bus journey from Fethiye. The buses run regularly and are comfortable but can be crowded on occasions!
If you stay on the bus it terminates in Kaş where you can get another bus to Antalya which drives along the coast passing Olimpos and Çıralı.
Remember to sit on the right hand side of the bus (going to Kalkan) to enjoy the views of the sea along the coast road.
Tickets can be bought at the Baty Antalya office in the Bus Station ( Otogar ) in Fethiye. They are very helpful and there are people around to make sure you get on the right bus!
We stayed a few miles away from Kalkan in Patara and caught the local Dolmus (mini bus) from Patara to Kalkan. We spent a couple of hours wandering around the old town and the harbour and had lunch in a harbour side cafe before catching the Bus back to Fethiye.
Next visit we will stay longer and maybe check out the local Dive sites!
Between Kalkan and Kaş is Kaputaş beach, a popular destination for swimmers that can get quite busy in the height of the season.
There is parking, and a Dolmus stop, on the main road above the beach from which steep steps lead down to a pebbly beach which leads into the crystal clear blue waters of the sea.
Kalkan is a lovely historic town with steep streets leading down, past shops and restaurants, to a busy harbour and beach. There are plenty of options for somewhere to stay and eat.
