On our 2 Berkeley's we have the water regulated by a bypass regulator with a smaller orifice upstream. 1/2" inflow, 3/4" overboard off the regulator, 3/8" restriction orifice and 1/2" lines to the motor. Run the system at 11 psi. Seems to work fine to 6K which is what our impeller limits us to ...
You're turning more, so your jet feed pressure is higher. Maybe a 2 stage regulated by-pass ??

    • @puppygadget3189
      @puppygadget3189 Год назад

@@FinnegansGarage yep Cole or Canyon’s are the best runner bottoms. If I was to build another one I get a new Cole hull from Pete Giroux from Giroux boats. He does such a clean excellent layup job better than anyone I feel. Pete has a few of Jim Coles molds and he reenforced them with steel bracing so they are very straight. My BGF was built by k-boat driver and blown motor builder Ron Bolton and his father Dwayne back in the day did the complete full installation. My late friend BAF builder driver Don Ermshar helped and gave me for next to nothing my new blower pistons, aluminum rods,Shotgun injector hat,Dan Olson wing, and and awesome prop ect ect. The blown BBC sounded like it was on alcohol and you’d hammer it and it wiggled a couple quickies then set and rode like a caddy all the way to 7400. Was so smooth many times I felt like once I hit the quarter mile to just keep on going but. I never raced it but back when we finished it in 1980 is was by far the the most beautiful and fastest on the Parker Strip. Steve Johnson from the Paint-N-Place on Bellflower did the pearl white paint job with several candy colors . Everyone use to say it was the nicest paint job he ever did. He painted a bunch of funny cars back then. If you drove one you would be hooked if you got to the point you were working the pedal spot on. So much more fun. Sucks the water getting in your motor. On my BGF I didn’t want a water pump so they just knew the correct size water pickup to put on it and ran the water exit on the side of the hull where I could reach it with my hand while I was just cruising to make sure water was getting thru the motor and was not plugged up. Plus no water pump to fail so she ran right at 165 -170. Back then I added up just the main stuff and when they finished it I had $47,500 and that was not a bunch of little stuff. Ron Masterjohn

Finnegan Finnegan Finnegan Finnegan you need a wtar pressure by pass/regulator. The offshore guys use them when dealing with high/over pressure connections with hi speeds and when they re enter the water from a wave jump. Say like a 15 psi that dumps the excess water pressure overboard. Bet theres a spike soon after you floor it and again during hi speeds. Don't waste your time trying to restrict the flow, a bypass will always let it run with consistent pressure. You know this boat will be used off the racecourse here and there so why go thru that headache on vacation in parker or havasu etc. when you just want to play with and enjoy it.

I've went through this before with my flat bottom v-drive. Clean oil on the trailer, instant milkshake under load at the lake. The problem was interference from the inner brass rivets on the MLS headgaskets. These rivets were tight against the deck area of the cylinder heads which overhangs into the lifter valley. This distortion of the gasket was enough to cause the water leak under load only. Removing these inboard rivets solved the problem. Something to check on BBC's.

Great to see the effort (and money) paying off with a good pass! Engine sounds wonderful, healthy! I thought you were going to get out of it early with the wind blowing? lol
Space age carbon fiber boat with ~1940s V8 power (I know, it's a "modern" V8, but still)... Rad, but kind of ironic.
Does the engine have a water pressure sensor / gauge with a trace in the data log? Is the engine holding as much pressure as it should? Do you _know_ the path the water is taking to get to the oil? Given a conventional cooling system can have a 15 psi radiator cap the engine should be able to comfortably hold that - maybe a target?
Glad you've got an alternator. Did you stick with the 16V battery? Is the alternator setup for that voltage? Smoking alternator sounds like a wiring problem. A voltmeter reading should show two to three volts above the nominal battery voltage if it's being charged - a quick test. If it's not in that range and you need to run the boat you should disconnect it until you have time to debug. Possibly the battery was low and the alternator is working hard to charge it. If it was a new unit it's possible that making it put out a lot of power is just curing the insulation on the windings. Have a laser IR thermometer...
Being parked for so long the only way to be totally confident in the boat is to take everything apart down to the last screw and washer.

I was going to lift but i was having so much fun that I forgot to. lol.

Cold lash is the way to go. And if you want the precision, just make a quick reference spread sheet so that you know if there's any difference to account for hot.
I set my lash cold, then warm up my engines, check all four intakes on one side, This can be done in less than 90 seconds. Not adjusting anything, just measuring. Take note if any has a difference. Then I can account for that when setting cold lash. Then reheat, do the four exhausts. Wash, rise repeat for the other bank. It might be a bit of a hassle, but it's only done once. Reason is that cooling flow and fueling for each chamber can be slighly different. I have seen 5 thousands of a difference hot cylinder to cylinder. So that just means that I have to lash one 17 thou cold and another 22. Then they end up very close to the same.

I ended up putting a water pressure regulator on mine after the ball valve just inside the transom. I got tired of header burns while trying to fine tune the flow.

I don't think the builder did a proper job. It had water in the oil before Fin ran it. That was not just condensation when he removed the covers to adjust lash.

Gate valve coming from the pump to the engine, 2 dump valves for the water exits. But this is all stuff Mike already knows lol

@@AB-80X I've been following Finneys boats since way before youtube. I'll always remember his Blue Ultra or the Red/white Rogers TR. I would say the opposite, dude usually goes way too far to make a boat nice lol. It's easy for a jet boat to produce way too much water pressure for normal intake/water gaskets and they will cause a milkshake mess in the oil pan. Hopefully he finds the issue on where and how the water is getting in the engine.

The 21:9 widescreen is very fancy, but because it's uploaded as a 16:9 file, those few of us with 21:9 screens get black bars on all four sides.
Any chance you could upload the video as natively widescreen? RUclips will automatically add black bars for anyone that needs them.

Generally your alternator puts out 1 or 2 volts higher than the battery capacity and your ignition coil wants alternator voltage and it will have a hotter spark than if you are running off a battery that’s dropping off voltage as you go down the track.
