It was a blessing to get to have some time back with Maple in Canada in his senior years. He was a cute senior dog, very smart as well. I always thought as an older dog his communication skills were almost human like. I remember him barking at you at your house in Runnymede when you first got back and you were like "What do you want?" and he literally was pointing with his snout at the food and looking at you like duhhh, give me the food bro! It was just awesome to see things like that. I am glad he got extra energy in those last few days as he did seem weak the last time I saw him which was like the weekend before he passed. But your story about his last day really was awesome and special. I'm glad you could send him on his way with a day like that. It was very fitting of a loving life together! May his soul enjoy in doggie heaven! Cheers my friend!

Maple had the best life. He knew it and he was thankful for every single moment. That I am absolutely sure about. It's a super hard decision to put a pet down, but it was the right one to do.

I'm a bit late but, I'm so sorry for your loss. My dog went to sleep in July 2023. Me and my wife cried like a baby. It's crazy how quick things change quickly man. My dog went from happy and full of energy to barely able to stand or move in just a couple of months. I also had my dog put to sleep at home. It was the best. He was already half asleep when they did it so I think it was a good time and I didn't wanna wait until he started having bigger issues... he was just really old and couldn't even walk by himself. We actually probably held onto him a bit too long but he wasn't in pain.. he was on meds. But it was extremely stressful for us because we had to wake up all kinds of hours in the night to get him out of bed and help him walk and eat etc. We did that for half a year or so. We were exhausted. So we just thought (me and my wife - also Japanese actually lol) we gotta do it now before he really gets bad. It's hard but time flies man and you'll be fine. RIP Maple.. say hi to my best friend Rocky if you see him!
